Hopefully the mill will not be abandoned in near future
Don't let us reason like the old fuul, during PMB era, Farmers are killed like chicken, chased from their farm land, and nobody is brought to book. This trend is still going on un addressed.
Definitely, PMB Caused the food scarcity and latter inherited by Tinubu.

I said on a similar thread that Nigeria's problem is not Hunger or High Food price,it is our inability to understand that Agriculture(livestock and Aquaculture inclusive) is very very big business
This news should be a very big eye opener to all producers of Rice Paddy in Nigeria, and that is the fact that there is a very big market for you in Nigeria
The Lagos State Government just informed us that they have the capacity to produce 2 million bags of 50kg Rice in a year, this is enough to make all serious farmers of Rice Paddy form cooperatives,go to the Federal Government and secure funding to grow Rice paddies on a very very large scale because the market and buyer of last resort is available

There is something else that I am really hoping some Aquaculture investors can look at,the price of Imported Frozen food is really getting out of hand.It is an irony of sorts that our locally breed fish such as Catfish, are more cheaper and more nutritious than this frozen nonsense we eat
Apart from the smoked catfish,I am really hoping that investors can look at the possibility of processing this fish,is it possible to get the technology to freeze this fish
We are a blessed people and Nigerians have no reason to go to bed hungry because all what we need to live well and feed well has been graciously given to us,from the great weather to a fantastic soil we really should be producing enough to eat and export all over Africa

Don't just talk. This is an opportunity for you too. Organize the cooperative union. Reach out to them and lead them. Many do not have the education to organize themselves. Then you will know talk is cheap

Empowering the youths of other nations. What exactly is wrong with we blacks?! You are shouting EBI PA WA O! And the governor is acting like he does not know that this is a "niche" to create employment opportunities!!!!

The forex that is already strangulated will now be used to buy paddy while our own youths remain hopelessly unemployed.

I knew it will get to this and it will further take us backward. Very lazy leaders and citizens that love flashy cars but don't want to work.

Do you have a clue how many hectares of rice will sustain Imota rice mill to work round the clock Our youths have no jobs, is this not a job employment opportunity?.

Very embarrassing preposition!!!

Anyways, have 5,000 hectares in Nasarawa and a bank endorsed off take agreement to supply 60,000MT of paddy rice for 10 years. If you have $15m USD, you can partner with me.

It seems you're forgetting about insecurity which is on the high side and that is the reason for scarcity and high cost in the first place. Tackle the source of the problem from the root and we will be just fine. Government should stop looking for temporary solutions, farmers are been killed on daily basis and they're talking about importation of food. I think this is their plan all along, the sabotage of farmers seems to be their planned work or I don't get

Hahaha. You should import unmilled rice at the dollar rate and the company will add so much price to it that will get it to 80K. Meanwhile finished rice can land here at 30K. Rice price needs to be crashed badly. That will crash every foodstuff in Nigeria

Though rice is not easily grown in the southern climate, it can be done. I am still angry with our professors. They are doing nothing, yet want the government to increase their pay. Hmmmm!

Sanwo Olu has just built a rice mill for looting
I am also angry with Sanwo Olu. That rice mill is a waste right now. The cost of bringing in rice paddy is something that should have been investigated before building that huge mill. Now, they will make this mill a means to loot massively.

More than enough Rice can be cultivated for the mill
As an ecology lover, I know what to do to make Lagos, Ogun Oyo, Osun, Ekiti, Ondo, and Edo grow rice for that mill. This is the reason I am still angry with our professors. They don't do much. How can they not all be able to come together to tackle the ecological problems that need to be fixed to make it happen? I still don't understand what these professors are collecting money for. They aren't solving any problem na.

Anyway, na to make politicians richer na. Lol.

It's a planned work here and keep the profs out of it bruh. The way I'm seeing it,they introduced insecurity, hinder farmers from farming, looked away and not finding solutions about the insecurities and now talking about one stupid rice mill and importation just to loot and make themselves richer angry. It's like insecurity is here to stay,God help us all embarassed

Sanwo-Olu is lying that rice is not growable in the South. It grows very well. For example, Ebonyi state grows and mills thousands of tonnes of rice yearly. The money Umahi wasted on building their white elephant project airport would have bought have bought hundreds of tractors, harvesters, threshers, build local dams, irrigation system for all year farming and set up mini mills in many communities.

I did hustle back in the day as a mobile rice thresher operator. I hired a locally fabricated thresher from one guy who is an Agricultural Engineer and fabricates machines. I hired from him during the rice harvesting season in Anambra rice growing communities, I will carry it to farms with Okada and couple it there, fill the 4 litres tank of the thresher and would operate it for a total of 8hrs which the petrol would cover. I used to thresh heaps of rice stalks already harvested and we get about 30 bags of rice paddies of 100kg each. Sanwo-Olu is yanning dust!

Apparently, you didn't understand the article. Everyone is wired to think farming isn't working because of insecurity. Before the Fulani and Boko haram issue, south dey produce agro-related products?

Guy. Relax. Return to the article and read it again. The problem identified by the governor is ecology. So, I will blame the professors 100%. This is their job, and they have refused to do anything about it. Period.

On the other part, you said it is a planned work from the onset to loot. Yes, it may be so. But it can be a win for us if our professors can tackle the ecological challenges. But politicians know the weaknesses of our educational system and they don't want to fix it. They want those useless professors there so they can keep looting. Education is the only way forward for Nigeria. These professors we have ..hmmm. There are so many things wrong with them.

Lot Of farmers have left their farms due to insecurity from bandits and Fulani herdsmen.

Many people have left their fish farms because feed is expensive including local one. And no Catfish isn't cheaper than Sawa or kote fish.

Whatever they will do to caution the hunger in the land is accepted. I see light at the end of the tunnel. Jagaban never looses in any of his endeavours. I strongly believe the reforms will yield fruit but corruption must be stopped at all level for that to happen

Building biggest rice mill when you don't have rice paddy rice, building biggest refinery when you don't have crude oil, building biggest gas storage plant when you don't have gas, I guess west will depend on importations to survive they keep pushing propaganda that Oyo landmass is bigger than Southeast but Anambra agro output surpassed Oyo, Anambra with her small landmass all the rice milling plants both large, medium and small get their paddy rice from the state. Propaganda have expiring date

Tinubu should listen to the governor and import enough paddy to at crash the prices for now and allow the farmers get back to farm to meet the demand, how can a mill be left idle like that, even if they have to fly the paddy they should do that, the government should be proactive and not reactive.

Sanwo-Olu well done 👍
