A former Member of the House of Representatives, Dr Usman Bugaje, has said President Bola Tinubu’s loyalists who served with him when he was Lagos governor misled him on the post-Niger coup crisis.

Some of Tinubu’s loyalists from Lagos who are also in the presidency have been dubbed ‘Lagos Boys’.

Bugaje, who represented the Kaita/Jibaya Federal Constituency of Katsina state from 2003 to 2007 said the Lagos Boys exhibited arrogance and failed to consult experts before advising Tinubu to threaten Niger after the coup.

Recall Nigeria’s neighbouring nation, Niger experienced a coup that ousted President Mohamed Bazoum on July 26, 2023.

Gen. Abdourahamane Tchiani, who served as the commander of the Nigerien presidential guard has taken over since then.

President Tinubu, the Chairman of the Economic Community of West Africa (ECOWAS) sent a delegation to the Niger’s junta seeking the return of the democratically elected government but efforts put abortive.

The ECOWAS chair also issued threats of using military force to end the military takeover but Tchiani did not bulge.

Tinubu, after several efforts failed, closed the Niger-Nigerian border, and cut electricity, medicine, and others.

Speaking about how the Nigerian government handled the Nigerien crisis, Bugage who just returned from the coup-hit nation said Tinubu acted beyond the ECOWAS brief.

Bugaje, former House Chair on the Foreign Affairs Committee disclosed this in an interview with Trust TV.

“The social media says that ‘Lagos Boys’ know everything. So, maybe this is the arrogance they came with. They think and don’t consult; whatever it is,” Bugaje said.

“I want us to see that as a country we have violated the norms, we have done things that are far beyond the ECOWAS brief, and that has created a lot of negative reactions from Niger.”

Based on his interactions with Nigeriens when he visited their country, the ex-federal lawmaker said, “Niger is taking these things with a lot of humility and decorum; and they are still saying that despite what you people have done to us, we still see Nigerians as our brothers, we still see these colonial boundaries as artificial, not barriers.”

After the meeting over the weekend, ECOWAS has lifted sanctions imposed on the three Sahel junta-led nations – Niger, Mali and Burkina Faso.

Not just on niger- coup issues, the whole nation is messed up.

Since this desecrated mandate came on board, it has been the more you try to get a solution, you create greater problems.

It is not about the people appointed.
A good percentage of the guys appointed are intelligent people who will do great on a normal day.

The tinubu mandate is the cause of the dearth.
The desecrations done against the ancient landmark of the nation that brought about tinubu brought a curse on the land.

Due to the cursed mandate of tinubu, the brain of these guys is turned upside down. No matter what they try to do, they end up worsening the issues.

Let these same guys operate on a mandate that does not desecrate the land, you will see a difference.

Even if peter obi agrees to work with this desecrated cursed mandate, it will crash.

Balablu.
Even my kids chant this.

I've been asked to explain the meaning. I said it's just balablu. The new language of the 21st century.

Asiwaju calls it COURAGE

The Lagos boys with laudable credentials are having a tough time reining in galloping inflation, curtailing crimes and criminality and most pathetic of all stabilising the naira.

I wonder what the speech "I ASKED FOR THIS JOB" was all about.

One big shortcomings of this current government is its INABILITY TO PLAN, to carry out cost-benefit analysis of decisions or SWOT analysis of policies.
There is little thinking long and hard on issues. It looks it acts on knee-jerk basis before thinking. Look at these:

-- Removed fuel subsidy without plan for likely consequences.
-- Floated Naira without plan to counter likely consequences.
-- Placed sanctions against Niger before sending envoys to talk to military junta over there. No consultations or analysis of consequences.
-- Implemented post-subsidy palliatives without any plan.
-- Installed bloated government with many idle ministers and sides without thinking about the financial consequences.
-- Focusing largely on monetary and fiscal affairs without any plan to stimulate economic, boost export and earn forex.

Usman Bugaje is speaking for his Niger Republic kinsmen.

Truth is the regular Hausa or Fulani person would chose a Niger republic person over someone from Southern or Middle Belt Nigeria.

Same with most important decisions taken so far

I know they have good intentions but I hope going forward they will be consulting widely without considering political party, tribe or religion. Afterall, its a working Nigeria that we want, whoever have a better suggestion should be accepted and acknowledged, I don't see anything bad in it. As a leader, I belive in the principle of the end justifies the means, if my subordinate or opponent have a better suggestion, I go with it, and achieve my success.

The LAGOS BOYS had always misled Tilumbu including those online supporters that wont dare tell him the truth. When we advocate for a vibrant leader that will be ready to pay a working visit to anywhere despite the ”beautiful” reports his aides might have presented to him but some egocentrically triberlistic infected bigotries will call us names.

While the coup is an aberration and affront to democratic norms, it was a godsend of opportunity in that it exposed the pretensions of the core North to the Nigerian project as it showed their affiliations to another nation as against Nigeria
If you ever needed proof for Nigeria's political decentralization, the scenario in Niger presented it
We need to stop fooling ourselves that we are one nation which is something the average Igbo man knows and split as separate nation states or have a confederacy to govern ourselves
Why is this so hard to comprehend by other ethnicities especially the Yoruba sub nation?

Also the use of 'Lagos boys' is misleading
The other day it was Ndume that used it, now this former legislator
Where was the core north's voice during Buhari's misrule?
Tinubu's policies are mainly inspired from Bretton Woods and the Western political hemisphere not forgetting his hubris

There is one thing about Nigeria that I have been observing....."everybody seems to know how to do it better"....

But when they were there, things were never good. In fact, its their ineptitude that led us to this now....

That is how that OBJ man go dey write letter every now and then as if he wasnt the one that laid the template of corruption and civil disobedience that we were facing now.

Will you shut up your gworo stained mouth!
If it wasn’t for your delusional thinking in North and idiotic Wike and ManHood Abubakar the current senile dunce in Aso Rock will not be running around parading himself as the president of Nigeria.

Just relax and enjoy Emilokan and his Lagos Boys in the North for next 8 years just as you enjoyed the greatest disaster to ever come from the North as president (Buhari).

By the time he is done with Nigeria, una go finally get sense.

This hausa think they are smart, if it were to be benin republic or camaroon would they objected it? But buhari closed the southern border and open the northern border.
Even with all the cries from the south against high cost of living the Buhari and aso rock cabals didn’t make any move

You spot on. It's so annoying that policies are churned without models of anticipation for fallouts or consequences of such policies.

Usman Bugaje talks like a complete slowpoke. It's the norm for international organizations to sanction erring members and the sanctions were administered by ECOWAS, not Nigeria. Come to think of it. Where was Bugaje when Buhari closed our border with Benin Republic in the guise of stemming rice smugglers despite the fact that our kith and kin in the other country suffered the closure?

If Bugaje, who is known to be an Atiku man Friday wants to continue to play politics even after election, he should continue. However, no matter of destructive criticism will change the fact that Tinubu is the president for now and power isn't returning back to the North until 2031 if Nigeria still exists.
