If I Can Do It, You Can Too – Adekunle Gold Tells Sickle Cell Survivors by InfoGuru118(op): 12:59pm On Feb 26, 2024
Popular Nigerian singer, Adekunle Kosoko also known as Adekunle Gold has recounted his battle with sickle cell anemia.

During his recent show, the singer stated that he was diagnosed with sickle cell at birth.

Adekunle Gold revealed that he has lived with the condition throughout his life.

Despite the challenges it presents, he expressed gratitude for his ability to manage the illness, allowing him to pursue his passion for music and perform on stages worldwide without succumbing to its effects.

He encouraged those with similar health challenges to remain resilient and determined in pursuing their life goals.

Adekunle Gold said, “I want to say you can do it. If I can do it, you can do it too. I grew up with sickle cell. I was born with sickle cell. All my life, I fought with it. But I am thankful I was able to manage it. I’m everywhere, doing shows, I don’t fall sick. I am thankful. So this is reaching out to everybody going through, having to deal with the crisis, you can do it. It should never stop you. Look at me, I am a superstar right now.”

The singer, however, dedicated his performance of the song “5 Star” to sickle cell survivors.

Coincidentally I had a friend...

Who also had sickle cell and his name was also kunle.

He hardly fell sick and and I was surprised the day I knew he was Ss. Infact I had to ask he to confirm.

He was in Plateau State Polytechnic at the time and last time we communicated he told me he was working at a bank in Abuja.

Another person I met who was a sickle was a jejelola who was my course mate in university and happened to be the school mother of my younger brother in high school.

Although she left at 200l to continue her studies in the USA. She too looked so chubby and strong... And I never saw her fall ill.

She lives in the US now married with kids and works as a general practioner(GP)

The impression I had growing up was that people who had sickle cell were always weak, sluggish and somewhat fragile.

And that they never lived beyond a certain age... Maybe 25.

Meeting these people and seeing some of them from afar like A. Gold changed my orientation. I even heard at a point that Atiku was a sickler... although I really do not know how accurate or truthful this is.

That being said let to-be-couples do proper blood tests to ascertain their compatibility medically so as to stop the birthing of Ss children.

It's really a painful ordeal for those who experience it!

He should thank God and his parents.

It's dishonest and ungrateful when you solely claim credit for this kind of disability.

It's very expensive and harrowing for parents of children with SS and it's unwise to grow up and start giving yourself the credit only. I applaud his parents immensely, it must have been hellish then and must have severally distressed his parents during his crises, so much that it would take a lot of faith for them not to have abandoned him. Today they're proud of their sacrifice. His Dad retired as a Permanent Secretary in the Civil Service of Lagos State and Lagos is very proud of his son, Adekunle Gold, as an illustrious Lagos indigene.

It's worthy of note that he is giving hope to the people, now that he is a parent, he should not ignore the agonies and sacrifices parents go through to cater to and raising a special need child to adulthood , it's a feat that makes the heroes and heroines for life. Never again should he forget to give his parents a generous dose of gratitude.

that is the best, the person will quietly quit and rest. But if there's money, you go for bone marrow transplant, this transplant that transplant needles here and there...so what is the joy of life?

Na God get our lives. And living depends solely on him.

As terminal or life threatening some diseases are there are people who will escape it.

Some people escape fatal accidents unhurt. While some people die upon sudden entering into a pot hole of by a car.

Whatever it is won’t change the fact that sickle cell disease is terrible and so obnoxious.
For every escapee in Adekunle Gold and Laycon, there thousands who suffered till death.

I know someone who wanted to wed in 2022 but died just 6 days to the wedding from the complications of the disease. She just said she was tired and was taken to the hospital. She died same night.

The problem now is that Tinubu will kill a lot of sickle cell patient because their medications are not affordable anymore. I know someone facing the SS issue that was living fine before this regime. Now she can not afford medication anymore and her health situation has worsen. Its so painful that we have a government that will inflate pains on her citizen without blinking.
