Over 91 Million Bank Accounts At Risk Of Deactivation As CBN's BVN/NIN Deadline by Man102(op): 9:19am On Mar 04, 2024
Over 91 million bank accounts at risk of deactivation as CBN’s BVN/NIN deadline expires

As the March 1 deadline set by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) for the linkage of bank accounts with either the Bank Verification Number (BVN) or National Identity Number (NIN) expires, approximately 91 million bank accounts face the risk of being frozen.

The CBN had directed commercial banks to restrict tier-1 accounts without proper BVN or NIN linkage.

The directive, issued on December 1, 2023, outlined the immediate placement of unfunded accounts on ‘Post No Debit or Credit,’ with funded accounts scheduled to face the same restriction effective March 1, 2024.

Banks intensified efforts over the weekend, sending final reminders to depositors to utilize digital platforms or visit branches for the necessary BVN/NIN linkage to avoid the potential freezing of their accounts.

The directive further stated that the BVN or NIN associated with all accounts must be electronically revalidated by January 31, 2024.

While the CBN has not officially clarified the consequences for customers failing to comply with the BVN/NIN linkage, banks have warned that non-compliance could result in the inability to carry out transactions.

Panic has ensued among depositors, leading to frequent bank visits as customers strive to update their account information before the March 1 deadline.

As of January 26, the Nigeria InterBank Settlement System (NIBSS) reported that BVN-linked accounts stood at 60,492,104 million.

Unnecessary demand. Up till today, there are still functional accounts without linkage to BVN.
I'm not linking nada. Let the Banks block my accounts first. I want to check something.

Do you even recall how many times we v done NIN verification in various places and BVN?
They should deactivate it. Enough is enough!
Criminals know how they bypass govt!
When Elemefiele oloriburuku was CBN gov. He and tiringbeku Bihari said naira redesign ll curb corruption. They did it and added more hunger and pains to the poor man. This time last year, we were buying N3K for N5K, N6K for N10K etc. Their mumu policy no stop vote buying instead it aided it. So where v we impressed?
Only to suffer more after any policy!
Kilode?
Are we born to suffer?
The pain's too much!

This is unnecessary stress, but I want to thank the banks for saving Nigerians the stress , Uba opened their portal you can submit your NIN there by simple instructions on their website, fidelity bank is very easy if you follow them on Facebook chat them up with your NIN,opay very easy open the app they will ask you to put ur NIN, Nigerian government can't stress us more at these hardship, kudos to the banks both opay , kuda , Uba, fidelity etc they reduced the stress except you don't have an internet connected Mobile smartphone

I advise all concerned - CBN, Commercial banks to deal with caution.

With the hunger in the land, people are charged and easily provoked.

Freezing of account might not be endured by some individuals with small credit balance to survive.

The date could still be extended to allow for all to comply, or why has it suddenly become an emergency?
