Are we having shortage of food or cash to buy them? Even if they sell cheap in naija, many people can't afford it because naira has lost so much value. The only problem is that most of these guys in the North got government grants for farmers so they can sell at a reduced rate to Nigerians but they are now taking their harvests across border which may lead to scarcity and even more food inflation

Good point . My question to you is this . Why should any farmer sell cheaper when everything else is costly ? It is counterproductive from a business sense .

If the government wants to control food prices , then they should start their own farms or buy from the farmers at competitive prices and sell lower . Dont forget that Buhari displayed pyramids of rice ( imported from Niger ) . The farmers stopped producing ?

Exactly

Life is not all about money 💰 looting, embezzlement and stealing

That's why government is there. No sane Government will completely allow market forces determine the price of it's fuel, electricity, and currency (naira)! When it knows the wages it pays is appalling, unacceptable and a crime against humanity.

They are using the word smuggling to make it look like a crime meanwhile it's just a food exportation.. but we have been exporting foods to other countries before, why is this one different?

The farmers were given grants, loans during Buharis regime to help feed the country. They are owing and smuggling the food to get higher money. Tinubu is a don!

As long as it's not illegal to export food items from Nigeria, this is witch hunt. Or probably another antics to shift blame - propaganda. This could even be complete false news as nobody was probably caught.

If the price of foodstuffs is going high, I wonder how higher it can get by exporting to neighboring country
Re: EFCC Arrests 21 Trucks For Smuggling Foodstuffs To Neighbouring Countries by faceland: 7:13am On Mar 06
21 truckloads is not childs play.

Nigerians can't afford the food, so they transport it hundreds of kilometers to another country to sell at almost the same profit when you remove fuel and bribe money.

It's criminal offence to take what belongs to Nigerians out of Nigeria. God bless the EFCC for this great multitasking job.

Na so. It's all to create scarcity so people can revolt against the man in power. They're using everything they have to fight him and he is also dealing them blows too.

People can't afford the perishable goods.

80% is better than zero percent.
21 truckloads is probably over 4 million naira in diesel alone.

When you refuse to do your job, others will show you how and take the glory. Besides, it's a financial crime to convert money into foodstuff and try to smuggle it out so you can sell and recover it in money again.

Oga, the border had been closed against activities like that. It's treason to smuggle out food to neighboring countries when there's man-made scarcity in the land. Its called economic sabotage. Nigeria is a big enough market for such a business.

Police and army must as a matter of urgency stop the export of all food items. Nigeria is in an emergency food scarcity crisis

My brother, normal business that people were doing without any hitches. Poor policies couple with wide spread insecurity, resulting to the inability of farmers to go to farm has caused prices to soar and hunger. Instead of government to tackle the root causes, they are busy harassing people doing business.

So those food stuff being smuggled out were grown on the moon and financed by aliens?

One thing I'm trying to understand, is there now a ban on exportation of foodstuffs?

What of those that export foodstuffs through the airport to developed countries? Those that export through the airports, their foodstuffs should be seized also na

As you rightly said, this exportation has been going on before now, so except there's now a ban on exportation of foodstuffs, it doesn't seem right

the government is trying to deflect attention away from its failure by blaming farmers who export food as the reason for the food inflation just as it did with Binance/BDC that took the fall for the high cost of dollars

If a farmer stressed himself and secured high interest loan to farm (for profit), I see no reason why anyone should tell him where or how to sell indeed. My only concern is when these same people prevent southerners from farming because of their cows undecided

is the polity the source of the food that you say it will be "redistributed back into the polity"?

how will it be distributed and what criteria will be used?
