Why? Completely different classes of aircraft.
Analogous to the Bell and medium chopper faulty comparison in the other discussion.

In my own opinion, I think it's because is a very affordable/cheap aircraft to maintain compared to other aircrafts inbits class.
The French Air and Space Force operates 27 units of this aircraft.

The CN235-200 is in a class completely different from the C130 & C390. And thus can't or shouldn't affect whatever plans the NAF has for the latter.
It's a good procurement for its role. Odunayaw seemed to be saying he feared it would take the role of the latter bigger aircraft, and later realised it wouldn't.
My point was he needn't have that fear, due to the different roles and capabilities.

The excellent former NAF chief Sadiq Abubakar, under whose command all these procurements commenced, vowed to eliminate middle-men. It is strange to now go back to this practice.

As an aside, now that you guys have retired him, can we offer him citizenship and commission him in the SAAF? grin grin grin

The economic reforms instituted by Tinubu are long-overdue and necessary. In the short to mid-term there will be pain, but the Nigerian economy will come out better for it. If the administration withstands the pressure.
As for legislators uttering nonsense, this global phenomenon can't be helped, unfortunately. Our local version: "You (the military) always complain your budget is inadequate, but look at what you accomplish with this small budget!"

STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP: CAS AT TUNIS FOR THE AFRICAN AIR CHIEFS SYMPOSIUM

The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, is currently attending the Annual African Air Chiefs Symposium (AACS), holding at Tunis, Tunisia from 26 February to 1 March 2024. The annual event is a multinational security cooperation initiative facilitated by the Association of African Air Force (AAAF) and sponsored by the United States Air Force for Europe and Air Force Africa. The event serves as an avenue to build on preceding symposia, identify key challenges confronting African air chiefs and their air forces, strengthen partner networks, discuss strategic airlift and share best practices for enhancing their capacities.

With the theme, “Pan-African Education and Training Opportunities,” this year’s symposium will also dissect topical issues around women, peace and security and air mobility. The symposium also aims at fostering more effective military relationships, networking, and collaboration between participating nations. Most importantly, the forum represents a unique opportunity for the African and international community of defence decision-makers to converge under one roof and brainstorm on emerging developments in air operations and strategies as well as emerging technologies.

The symposium aligns with one of the key enablers of Air Marshal Abubakar’s Command Philosophy that prioritizes Research and Development while leveraging cutting-edge technology, strategic partnerships and lessons learnt. It also affords the CAS an opportunity to share ideas as well as interrogate new strategies that may tally with NAF’s ongoing counterinsurgency and counterterrorism efforts in a joint operating environment. About 40 African Air Force Chiefs are participating in this year’s AACS.

These men are not special forces, they are members of the criminal group CJNG, one of the most powerful and feared cartels in Mexico.

The CJNG, or Cartel Jalisco Nueva Generacion, is not just a local criminal group. It has a global reach, with its influence extending to the United States, Africa, Europe, and Asia.

The cartel’s leader, Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, also known as “El Mencho”, is currently the world’s most wanted drug lord. The United States is offering a ten million dollar reward for his capture, and the Mexican authorities are offering 80 million pesos — or about 1.5 million dollars — for his capture.

The CJNG is known for its extreme and public use of violence, including public executions, displaying mutilated bodies of its enemies on streets and hanging from bridges, sharing killings on social media, and using “narcomantas” (narco messages) threats to intimidate local populations.

Ukraine Is Now Fighting Russia in Sudan
In fighting against

In fighting against Russian-backed rebels in Sudan, Ukraine hopes to make the war more costly for Moscow, Sudan’s military ruler, Lt. Gen. Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, asked Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky for help after being besieged in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, by rebel's Rapid Support Forces in Summer 2023.

▪️ Burhan had been quietly supplying Ukraine with weapons since shortly after Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022, according to Ukrainian and Sudanese military officials.

▪️ Within a few weeks of the appeal, Ukrainian special forces arrived in Sudan and began fighting to push the rebel forces out of the capital, Khartoum, according to several Ukrainian soldiers involved in the operation.

▪️ The first wave of Ukrainian troops—nearly 100 soldiers, mostly from HUR’s Timur unit—landed on a charter jet in Sudan in mid-August 2023.

▪️ Theie first mission was to help get Burhan out of Khartoum, where the Rapid Support Forces had surrounded him. But not long after they arrived, Burhan drove in a convoy to the compound outside the capital where the Ukrainians were based. His guards had smuggled him out of Khartoum, according to Sudanese officials.

▪️ The Ukrainians helped their Sudanese allies with acquiring Turkish Bayraktar TB2 UCAVs, which arrived in February 2024, according to a Sudanese military official and an RSF adviser. (Officials from HUR declined to comment about helping Sudan procure Bayraktars).
