But in this case he was not arrested for poaching but for breaking the traditions and taboos regarding killing of monkeys .

Is this not duplicity ?

They cry about Sharia laws banning and criminalising alcohol intake and sales in the north but here they are using the police to enforce their superstitious beliefs

I've lived in Awka myself and the monkeys mind their business, I rarely saw them.

The monkeys are the property of the Indigenes of Awka, if he was ignorant of the customs, he could plead ignorance, but he was fully aware of the customs and still choose to violate, this proves contempt and malicious intent towards the Indigenes of Awka, he has the motives of a criminal.

go to India and kill ordinary cow wey block high way or your street make you go meet baba god. Even in America, a Nigerian from............ has been sent to jail for trapping, catching and eating pigeons from park. Let me not say where he came from to avoid unnecessary foaming from the mouth of some pigeon bandits on nairaland

You can argue as much as you like but in court, motives are more important than actions

If he knew monkeys are considered sacred in that community and still chose to kill it, that proves he doesn't respect the community he lives in and has no problem hurting the community, which makes him a criminal.
