Why I regret relocating abroad – Femi Brainard opens up on being Uber driver [VIDEO]

Nigerian film actor Femi Brainard has opened up about life while living abroad. The thespian granted an interview with Teju Oyelakin, aka, Teju Babyface on his podcast.

Speaking on the perks as well as the disadvantages attached to relocating abroad, especially being a celebrity, Femi Brainard said it is better to be celebrated and be a prince in Nigeria than to move abroad and be a nobody. He also noted that his wife does not love it at all.

While speaking with the comedian, Brainard noted that anytime he is driving, his Nigerian passengers in particular can’t help but stare at him in disbelief and wonder if he is the star they know.

The actor added that the curious ones would approach him to be sure he was the famous actor they knew in Nigeria.

Femi Brainard said the bills are a lot and he has things like rent to think about. The actor who celebrated his 10th wedding anniversary in May of 2023 explained that he was so broke to an extent once that he went to the parking lot and burst into tears.

He traveled abroad with films acting skills. What was he expecting? Did he get to acquire other high in demand skills aside being an actor?

Don't blame abroad my brother. Go and get a skill. Na person na do 6 months program for Canada wey dey earn 400 per few hours so as a psychologist.

What of other high in demand skills like truck driving, plumbing, HVAC technician?

There are so many short programs you can run to settle in properly and live comfortably. But you didn't take advantage of all of those opportunities.

ogbonti will now have something to talk about.

Thank you my brother.

ogbonti, come and see testimony. Why you complain that abroad failed you and you were deported, here is a testimony that shows that you were practically an illegal immigrant, that's why abroad didn't favour you.

Exactly. That's why ogbonti japa illegally and it didn't favour him. He got deported back to Nigeria and was all feeling bittered whenever he sees those who japa and are doing well. He started jumping from thread to thread castigating japa, forgetting that his destiny is different from those other people.

He should not be complaining at all. Does he thinks that abroad is eldorado? Was he expecting to break into Hollywood stardom because he is a Nigeria nollywood star?
Most Nigerians stars that didn't make it in the Nigeria movie industry do resort to odd jobs when they move abroad.

He should be thankful that he can pay his bills being a uber driver. I feel that there is dignity in labour no matter how little you earn from it, as long as it puts food on your table be grateful.

If he feels that the job he is doing over there doesn't befit his status then he should come back home and face Nigeria reality.

Abeg he should not be complaining o because moving abroad will really humble you and I except him to know that.

Can you do this same uber driving in Nigeria? The answer is no....So the abroad is still better...uber drivers abroad have guaranteed security but uber drivers in Nigeria are not safe, many are killed, kidnapped and vehicle snatched...

You said Nigeria is better, what govt policy now is encouraging businesses to grow in Nigeria? The answer is non....

Yiu said Nigeria is better, What is Nigerian minimum wage? Zero cant take care of one person even before this satanic inflation recently started....etc

So, when people say Nigeria is better than abroad, I see it as deception from such person, he/she just wants to discourage others from going there..

I believe no matter how plenty the bills abroad are, the truth is that, you get value for the bills and taxes you pay for unlike Nigeria where you pay taxes and bill and never get to benefit from the govt you pay to..e.g you pay light bill but get only 7 days of light in a month like where i live .. .

Abroad and Nigeria nor be mate, let's stop comparing the two...even you that wrote this post, if your parents have been treating you bad from child birth till now, will you love and be patrotic to such parents? Oga talk truth make devil still shame..

What a brilliant talk.

God bless you.

I concur with you.

If you calm down you'll see that all these things you mentioned are found overseas too...painment and bitterness will only drive you insane because all those Nigerians you mentioned still love their country more than another and that is the point of the comment I made not whether Nigeria is the best nation in the world but that NIGERIA IS THE BEST NATION IN THE WORLD FOR ANY NIGERIAN TO LIVE IN. Most Nigerians poor or rich pay tax either direct or indirect. Those working with government pay tax from their meagre monthly take home, those working with private pay tax from their take home, drivers, market women/men, petty traders all pay tax to AGBERO, expecially in Lagos that was established by your emilokan suffer head government.

Nigeria is a shit hole country, it is known even to the blind. Your useless corrupt leaders and families all has dual citizenship of those countries you hate hearing or seeing people going, is it the same to the leaders of those countries? Do American, Canadian, Australian leaders has Nigerian passport as a dual citizenship? Are they running to Nigeria like your useless corrupt leaders does? Your leaders and their families school abroad, healthcare, vacation all abroad. They even have properties and businesses abroad with our stolen money. Your leaders improvised Nigerians to their own benefit. An average Nigerians now cannot afford 2 square meal daily. Can your useless leaders move about the country without dozens of excort? Can they use public transportation like other leaders in developed countries? They can't because they know the masses will kill them in a second. I can't talk much to people like you. Eni awifun Oba je o gbo.

Many of them are so stuck now that they can't even be as sincere to themselves as he is.

It's nothing but a wrong mindset to think that you will resent your own land/ country and expect that you will prosper on that land or overseas, it's impossible!

When you are not blessed in Nigeria, it's not because others are not doing well here in Nigeria, for most of you, you were horribly raised with the wrong mindset and indoctrinated to hate Nigeria by some of your parents who were part of those behind the multiple problems now facing the nation so you ended up and continued your life in a circle of negative minded unpatriotic people. You curse Nigeria, the land curses you back in multiple folds and nothing you sow in the land will prosper but if you bless Nigeria, the land blesses you back in multiples.

Until you wish Nigeria well and do your best in patriotism, you will never be blessed by this land and if you carry your resentment and hatred for Nigeria overseas, the rejection by Nigeria will follow you like your shadow.

The grass is always greener on the other side until you get there. What you are doing here in Nigeria is so valuable that if you nurture it well, you will one day be going overseas for business/ professional travels and enjoy vacations with your family and friends. And even if you still don't go overseas, you will be happy, safe, fulfilled and blessed here in Nigeria.

God bless Nigeria for ever! Check my signature for free stuffs!
I live abroad here in the UK and have no regrets of doing so. People relocate not just because of money but other things too. If you love your country and you see things that are not right, their is nothing bad in complaining about that. A lady that came to Nigeria built a business and employed Nigerians and later got killed by her staffs is something to complain about. Another lady that came with her kids to Bury her mother and was shoot on her way to ibadan with her kids in the car, thank God the kids were alive. I myself was scammed by some custom officers when I was into import and export business in the early 2000s. I have been robbed and kidnapped once, you can't say we can't speak against evil. Has an ex fire fighter my pension in the UK is over 20k+ state pension 203 a week equals to 800+ a month. I have 2 houses that can pay me rent if I come back to Nigeria. If your village people are not after you abroad is better. My big brother spent 30 years in the army and his pension is 50k naira a month. I support him with 100k every month. My daughter is 27 and earns 47k + 24k side business per annum. No hookup or sugar daddy. We are not stupid for relocating except those that are not wise.

Uber? In America?
Is he in America?
I did Uber in America .
If you do it full time, you can make more than degree holders.
Anyone doing it 8 to 12 hours a day, can easily make $8000 to $10,000 a month. The average for full timers is $6000 a month.

Definitely, a driver is a driver anywhere in the world , especially a taxi driver ( uber etc) so by societal standards its low on the tandem pole; but 75k annual income in the US for a household puts one at a middle class. Talk less of one spouse making 75k to 100k , add it to your wife's income and that's over 150k a year; that's upper middle class in America and rich.

Maybe he did it part time.

Can someone without a green card get a driver's licence in the U.S?

I only wish you well with the saying that "your children and grandchildren will definitely continue from where their father and grandfather stopped. They will also worship these politicians children too, just as their father and grandfather is currently doing" i expected you to say a resounding Amen grin
