Iamoyindamola another PayTV called SLTV has been launched .

https://www.instagram.com/reel/C4OwpufA6et/?igsh=NzRqemZncTYzZWVh

I learnt they show all supersports channel and their maximum sub is 5k

I even learnt there's already an appeal court judgement that compels DSTV to share license of some of their programmes like EPL with SLTV

https://www.primebusiness.africa/court-orders-multichoice-dstv-to-share-programme-license-with-nigerian-cable-tv

I just hope they break DSTV's backbone eventually and give us an alternative to DSTV who hike the price of their packages every eke market day 😪

I don't understand. How can you compel dstv to share their licenses with competitors? How does that work!? Abi I am missing something?

Can you compel Coca-Cola to share their formula with LA casera?

According to the court of appeal ruling , they were asked to sub-license some of their programmes to other PayTV's in line with NBC code of 2020.

I don't know what the NBC 2020 code says but I'm guessing the aim of the code is to ensure there is no unhealthy monopoly in the industry .

You know before now DSTV will get the EPL rights and everybody else will be bound to the philistines. That gives DSTV undue advantage over other competitors because they are the only one who can show EPL. now I'm guessing NBC wants a situation where EPL rights and cost for the rights is shared amongst as many interested players as possible .

So at the end of the day u can use other stations/programming like BBN , Africa Magic etc that are exclusive to u to now sell ur market instead of exclusivity of EPL .

If u look at this from the perspective of a patriotic Nigerian or a DSTV customer that has been pissed by them in the past , it makes sense ; but if u look at it from the view of DSTV owners or loyalist, u go dey vex for naija government .

Does nbc regulate cable TV if yes they are mad
Were they dead when DStv have been ruling naija for years
Why didn't they regulate DStv for shows like big brother, girls of the playboy mansion, Dr 90210 etc
You know DStv also have x-rated channels with some tweak and change in frequency you can get them
Does nbc have laws for that too?

The court order is premised on an NBC code na. NBC released a code guiding broadcasting rights in Nigeria and from what I read the code actually aimed at eliminating monopoly in the PayTV section of the media. U know this age-long monopoly has got many Nigerian owned PayTV closed down in the past.

I believe NBC was indirectly telling DSTV to either learn to compete with Nigerian Owned PayTV stations or get the 4ck out!

What the law is saying is that they should sub-license; not that they should share it for free.

Don't u understand what DSTV is doing ni? It's just like saying only MTN Nigeria has 5G license and other networks cannot have same. Whta do u think will happen? Other network providers will die a natural death cos almost everybody will migrate to MTN and MTN can just charge any fee they like just like DSTV is doing.

I am looking at it in terms of precedent and business - if you are planning to invest in the Nigerian market and there is a possibility the govt can force you to share your ip or infrastructure or assets with competitors in the future, you go gree?

Those BBN, African Magic and the likes are content owned exclusively by Multichoice I guess (The owners of DSTV). All those DR90210, playboy and the likes; by virtue of the NBC code if any other PayTV owner wants to air them I guess DSTV is expect to sublicense them just like EPL matches too

There are protectionist laws that favors citizens in different countries of the world. No be Nigeria e start.

My friend's elder brother who once lived in Qatar told us if u want to start a company in Qatar , their law requires that u have at least one citizens as shareholder/partner in that company. Like u will practically be sharing ur future profit with a Sheikh who has zero contribution to the profitability of ur company just by virtue of being a shareholder in a company u built from conception till profitability stage.

It's high time we protect our own too.

Ben Murray Bruce will be worse than DSTV if he sets anything like that up. Bruce that used his period as DG NTA to acquire all the equipment to set-up STV, when his hand no dey government purse again he started running into debt and defaulting bank loans.

Ben Bruce's PayTV will end up worse than HiTV of blessed memory . Person wey AMCON had to make a show of taking over his assets before he started paying back his debt small small

They kidnapped 280 children and they can't find them

The story would make much sense if the bandits used vehicles. But they walked them into the bush

So, how fast and far will they trek with 280 children, that men with foot, bikes and maybe deploying aerial methods cannot find?

280 children?

GUO bus was attacked, and the kidnappers left the only child there, because it is difficult to cater for children in captivity.

But 280 miss, and nobody know.

Congratulations on another business deal

"A big part of the challenge facing Nigeria today is just food, you can't fix food inflation with just monetary policy.

"AFDB has launched a $134 million fund to aid Nigeria to produce a lot more food and drive down the cost of food.

"In the dry season, we will do 300,000 hectares of maize and rice, 150,000 hectares of cassava and 50,000 hectares of soya.

"We must return to the electronic wallet system for farmers to encourage dry-season farming."

- Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, President, Africa Development Bank (AfDB)
