African Games 2023: Flying Eagles Lose To Uganda In Group Opener

Nigeria’s Flying Eagles lost 2-1 to Uganda in their Group B opening game at the 2023 African Games inside the Accra Sports Stadium in Ghana.

A late goal by Ivan Irinimbabazi, gave the Ugandans the perfect start to the games.

Usama Arafat opened scoring for Uganda in the 33rd minute, as he raced towards the Flying Eagles goal area and slotted past the goalkeeper.

In the 37th minute, the Flying Eagles equalized thanks to Sadiq Isiyaka, who headed home from a corner kick.

But in the 81st minute Irinimbabazi hit a low shot from the outside of the box which beat the Nigerian shot stopper.

The Flying Eagles will hope to bounce back from the opening day loss when they face South Sudan on Monday 11, March.

South Sudan also got their campaign off on a losing note after falling 1-0 to Senegal

African Games: Falconets Bag Comfortable Win Over Morocco

The Falconets of Nigeria began the defence of their African Games gold medal with a comfortable 2-0 Group B win over Morocco in Cape Coast on Friday night.

The Nigerian U-20 ladies were victorious at the last edition in Rabat when they defeated Cameroon on penalties for their third gold medal in the competition as the most successful side.

Christopher Danjuma’s ladies wasted no time against the Moroccans as Fatima Bambara put the ball into her own net in the 19th minute before Adoo Yina doubled Nigeria’s lead two minutes to the half time break.

The victory comes as a relief for Nigerian fans after the Flying Eagles lost 2-1 to Uganda in the men’s Group B contest on Thursday.

The Falconets will next tackle Senegal with the hope of booking their place in the semi-finals.

Nigeria is the most successful country in the women's football event at the All Africa Games.

The event featured senior sides (Super Falcons) from 2003 till 2015 and under 20 sides (Falconets) from 2019 till the present.

The 9ga male category in football has always being a consistent disappointment for over a decade now...I just wonder why the female groups don't get as much praise despite being better in EVERY single matric

Keep foaming from both sides of the mouth. People like you are the reason why the country is so backward. Una go see white dey call am black because of sentiment, person go read economics, them go carry minister of sports give am. If the right things are not done, the country can never move forward.........Oya, crawl back to the hole you came out from and stop quoting me

I will quote you and there ain't a damn thing that you can do about it. You are the one that is foaming at the mouth. This is a football thread, but you haven't provided one single football analysis. All you've done on this thread is display your bigotry and write a bunch of garbage that has nothing to do with football.

People like you are the problem of this country.

All African games? The glory of this event is gone. All African games should be the African version of the Olympics. Such tournament is going on without enough publicity or funfair
