I live in Korea and I just visited Nigeria on December for my wedding ceremony after years away from evil country like Nigeria, I used my eyes saw my ears despite making plans for this return since a year ago.. I nearly went back to Korea with legs, fasterward to my return to base, do you know my employer put me under quarantine because they say i look skinny.. in space of 2 months I lose 15kg ... Not that I don't eat well.. infact I killed 3 cows and food pleanty but the kind of stress in Nigeria is enough to declare national emergency... I will not see that shitty country again till further notice my prayer is for them to approve my wife visa then I will wave Nigeria bye bye for good as far , my parent 300 usd can take proper care of them... I will not miss them much

Govt should focus on giving the citizens a better life and not this rubbish. How many people drinks this in the villages, I didn't see where they mentioned anything about good nutrition. Maybe u don't know, people live on only carbohydrates this time. From breakfast to dinner. And we are busy discussing soft drinks which is even a costly commodity this time.

We can pay tax on soft drink and also improve lives in village.

Plus my supporting the tax does.not automatically mean I don't care about poverty in this country old man

But even then, speaking as someone who has seen people dump their entire savings on treatment for diabetes and obesity, at the end of the day, the tax makes sense.

It is sad people are hungry in Nigeria, but the hungery and poor people won;t be buying soft drinks anyway in the first place.

Sometimes, we can clap for government when they make sane decisions. I so don';t like tinubu or pdp, or lp. But if na Obi making this decision , I would say the same thing.

It costs money to treat the effects of soft drink consumption. Anything to prevent that is welcome. Even if it comes from the incompetent APC.
You didn't get my point, what the government is doing is a misplaced priority, people must survive before doing any other thing in life. The policy is good if it comes at a right time.

Soda is bad. The worst thing that has happened to us. Take a different view. What if good people want to take advantage of this period people drink less of these things because there is no money. They have decided to strike now to save us, is it not smart? How? Perhaps, they see that soda producers are less concerned about fighting this with govt because their sales are low already. So, let's hit them more badly now so they can go off the market once and for all permanently. Do you think they will not fight back when their sales are high?

See, they want to save you, but you deliberately want to still die prematurely. If this hunger will correct many things, so be it.

If you are holding on to soda drinks, you will fight me and even insult me when I tell you to start gardening. These businessmen making money while killing us deliberately make you lazy. You don't want to cook. Right. You still want those "sharp sharp" instant food. Right? See, noodles are next that will be attacked by these good people. I know you will start crying. But see, na save dem dey save you.

You better step back and decide to live long in good health. You better make the decision now. And the best way is that you get yourself a plot of land and produce your food. I know this is the only thing you will ever want to do. Don't worry...na your die...not mine. grin We will write RIP. Remember Mr Ibu. We don forget his movies already. Na so. No be my die. When he was consuming junk when he was busy acting...he would curse anyone who told him to cook. Why? He had no time. Did you see the result? No wahala. Keep drinking your soda..

Insecurity is bad, Govt insensitivity, high cost of living and starvation are the Worst things that have happened to Nigerians

In one day ova 200 Nigerians die cos of insecurity not Obesity,

Increase Tax will only complicated economic hardship, prices will rise, sales will drop and more companies will fold up thereby skyrocketing unemployment, who we cater for workers that lose there jobs

iF there are health concerns it is the duty of NAFDAC to come up with measures to ensure Products circulating the market are good for consumption and continue sensitizing the people on intake ... Tobacco companies are heavily taxed but as it stopped people from smoking ... are there no lessons to take for that ...or we must just continue to make life difficult for the masses everyday.

I must see the food first for me to select. Tinubu has nothing to offer for now. I neither support APC nor PDP, In fact I lost confidence in the Nigerian democracy.

First, I don't argue with people, but you have pointed out a vital issue. Hmmm. I agree with you; however, let us look at both sides with an unbiased mind.

Increase Tax will only complicate economic hardship, prices will rise, sales will drop and more companies will fold up thereby skyrocketing unemployment, we cater for workers that lose there jobs
I agree that a tax increase will complicate the hardship, but an increase in tax on a product that is affecting us will not hurt. For example, if we are ready to make Naija better, import duties and taxes for import must go up while exports must be reduced. My point is that a tax increase has its purpose in both ways. But before we do that, the arrangement for internal production must be on the ground.

The main point here is this: What is killing us? We will use high imports and taxes to kill it, so we can encourage internal production.

iF there are health concerns it is the duty of NAFDAC to come up with measures to ensure Products circulating the market are good for consumption and continue sensitizing the people on intake ...
If it takes years to start making the United States Department of Agriculture correct some of these things, who is NAFDAC? Bad people are bad businessmen producing these poisons and they always give incentives to lawmakers everywhere. So, it is hard. Na one opportunity health practitioners who understand these issues take. They grab it once and make use of it. If they don't, story oooo.

Tobacco companies are heavily taxed but as it stopped people from smoking ... are there no lessons to take for that ...or we must just continue to make life difficult for the masses every day.
You are wrong with tobacco. Guy, in the 30s to 50s when tobacco was the main thing, these people were portrayed as smoking means power, stylish, big boy, etc. If you are not a kid, you should remember this point I am going to make here. In the 80s, Marlboro made an ad that had a fine handsome and well-built cowboy with his hat and horse beside him showing elegance, power, and stylish. People smoke in public. Guy, go check, the percentage of smokers has reduced drastically.

common malta Guinness as become something an average Nigerian can't afford, even water is #200 and some useless confused idiots are urging more taxation, is it there father obesity
Since you mentioned water here, I have the right response. It seems you are so into soda. Lol. Tell me, is malta Guinness a necessity for a poor man hungry? Let's start from there. If water now, then you are right. If the government puts a high tax on water we will protest. But soda? Come on!

What you should advocate for is that govt should move that high tax to compensate water producers and not pocket it. If we make soda more expensive and water cheaper, is it bad? Sir, you made a vital point, and what we need to do on Twitter and social media is to tell organisations pressing for this policy to move the extra tax into giving water producers a cut. If I were involved, I would go for a full 100% tax holiday for water producers and make soda producers pay all water. Come and see how they will abandon soda production and give us quality water at an extremely cheap price. Sachet pure water that is bad will likely have to start making quality products too to survive in the market.

Guy, it is a policy-making we are discussing ooo. I am a public policy expert sir, and these things are argued like this in the Senate.

See, if we were both senators, I would counter you with the points above, and then crown it with this point: remember I opened my post by telling you that we must ask ourselves the things killing us. Is soda drinks killing us economically?

Here is the answer: it looks good Mr Senate president. The advantage of it is temporary, but if we look well, this thing has been robbing us of human capital for years. Human capital is productivity. If we want to produce internally, we need youths and experienced adults. But what do we have? After our boys have grown into men of experience, they are removed from the system at the age of 40 to 60 because of HBP, diabetes, and other diseases.

I would then bring out the number of people sugar-associated drinks kill yearly and compare it with insecurity. Guys, don't you get it?

You talk of 200 kids....and bla bla bla. Go and check the number of sugar consumption taken from us yearly. And I will give you proof that sugar is the cause of these diseases. I will link obesity to these diseases, sir. And also, I will give instances where obesity is not involved and these diseases manifested.

Now, get on board and give me a good counterargument to what I have raised here.
