These men and women are not lost, they are rather on higher or advanced training that the Nigerian government may not afford. In due time when brilliant and patriotic leaders are in charge and are ready to take the bills, these doctors will return to Nigeria, better trained, exposed and capable.

It's not easy working as a Doctor in Nigeria, work condition is very poor. They have it better than most other professions, just look at what is happening to our educational system today.

Jman06:
Waivers should be granted to all federal healthcare institutions to replace health workers continuously as they leave. The japa syndrome isn't something that can be stopped as long as Nigeria remains a third world country. In fact, japa should even be encouraged as a way to improve our foreign exchange and transfer medical knowledge and techniques from foreign to local health institutions.

Government hospitals should have offices where qualified healthcare professionals and doctors can easily go and submit their CVs and be considered for available jobs without long protocols. Also, remuneration and work environment should be improved.

Shikena!

If the ones there leave, they simply dust up the CV in the drawer and invite other applicants without long bureaucracies.

But can those in Government think along that line? No.

Nigeria Lost 16,000 Doctors In Five Years - Minister

Nigeria did not lose 16,000 Doctors. The Doctors voted with their feet to reject being paid peanuts in Nigeria and being forced to work with outdated insufficient equipment.
