In Yorubaland, the only kings that wear beaded crowns are the children of Okanbi from Ile ife.

These are considered royal stools, the rest are mostly installed by these people and don’t wear beaded crowns.

Ibadan is made up of warriors from old Oyo empire. They are largely independent from the then Oyo kingdom, but Alaafin Atiba gave them a ruler, which was his friend and a very strong opponent (No Alaafin will keep a strong warrior close to home)

I think that was either ibikunke or Oluyole. He was a Bashorun.

Ibadan people are the ones that made the Olubadan title and agree on who to rule. They are mostly powerful warriors, so it’s not easy to attain a monarchical system among them.

That’s what’s meant by they are not real kings. But that doesn’t make them less powerful. They are the ones that preserve the new Oyo and fight off invaders when Oyo became powerless. Mostly because Oyo is their home.

I guess he is referring to history. Ibadan was a Ba'ale stool until less than 100 years ago, about 1930. It's not one of the old royal stools like Alaafin, Awujale, etc. Since Ibadan gained political prominence after fall of Oyo and during colonial era, the stool grew influential too.

Being a young town and stool that began as a Ba'aleship by largely exiles, warriors and such, it was easier to institute a more egalitarian system than in the more ancient monarchies.

The number is large at 42 monarchs including the Ba'ales because the system runs in a way that people tend to be old before they reach the top of the civil/Olubadan or the warrior/Balogun tree to ascend. They hardly stay more than 10 years. This is the third Olubadan to ascend since 2016.

But today, Olubadan is a first class monarch and that's it.

Nobody eliminates anybody. The truth of the matter is that they are mostly older when they get to the throne.

Infact the late king had partial stroke as it was evident he was being guided whenever he is in public. He should have simply not accept the role. But Hey,it was his turn
