adioolayi: Oyo has a more sophisticated political system. Historically, the Aremo don’t succeed his father. The Aremo die whenever his father die. A new king will have to be chosen out of the numerous children from the royal family. And this is largely a decision made by the Oyo mesi’s However, Alaafin Atiba changed the rule that says an Aremo must die with his father. So, a few of his children have been sitting on the throne till now. Most extended children from the royal family are no longer vying for the position. But even among Atiba children, only 2 or 3 family are rotating the throne among themselves. The remaining Atiba children are recently interested in vying for the throne. And the fact that Oyo mesi’s insisted that they have the sole right to install whoever they wish puts Makinde in a tight position. I don’t know if Makinde want the throne to go to someone Ifa choose, or he did not like who the Oyo Messi choses, or he has political affiliation with other persons. Or, he is simply scared. But till now, Makinde refuses to approve who the Oyo mesi’s chose. They even took him to court and I think the case was dismissed. I don’t think it was fear of the other princes rising against whoever he chose either. The people fought against the Soun, and failed, so they are likely to fail if they go against the government elect in Oyo. I think Makinde want someone with strong cultural sensitivity and integrity to sit on the throne. After all, their duty is to preserve our culture. 5 Likes 1 Share |

Yeah! Nice arrangement but I hope people on the queue do not eliminate people in front so that they can have their turn quickly. Imagine, the late king just spent two years before leaving.... The more a king stays on the throne, the longer those on the queue will have to wait for their turn... So the tussle and struggle continues! adioolayi: 1 Like |

aribisala0: In Yorubaland, the only kings that wear beaded crowns (Ade Are) are the children of Okanbi from Ile ife. These are considered royal stools, the rest are mostly installed by these people and don’t wear beaded crowns. They wore Akoto. Ibadan is made up of warriors from old Oyo empire. They are largely independent from the then Oyo kingdom, but Alaafin Atiba install some overseer over them, which are his friend and very strong opponent (No Alaafin will keep a strong warrior close to home) The overseers are Balogun ibikunke and Basorun Oluyole. However, this does not mean Ibadan people don’t have their own ruler. Ibadan people are the ones that made the Olubadan title and agree on who to rule. They are mostly powerful warriors, so it’s not easy to attain a monarchical system among them. That’s what’s meant by they are not real kings. But that doesn’t make them less powerful. They are the ones that preserve the new Oyo and fight off invaders when Oyo became powerless. Mostly because Oyo is their home. 13 Likes |

bestman09:Oluibadan stool is a baale system https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olubadan A system where the Baale line (civic) and Balogun Isoriki line (military) shared power was established by 1851, subject to a traditional council representing both lines. 6 Likes |

123yes: How can NIGERIA do that, you want some people to die? In Switzerland because of how complex the country is, the have ROTATIONAL PRESIDENCY in their Constitution. But just bring it to NIGERIA so that it will help us build unity, so many wicked people who the devil has given an assignment in Nigeria will die to see it happen. Let's continue like this naa as a broken and weak Nation. |

adioolayi: This is because the Olubadan stool was never a royal one, the king doesn't wear a beaded crown. Ibadan is led by a Baale and the sit isn't traditional. 4 Likes |

Fryx:What is Yoruba landWhat What is the significance of beaded crowns to making a Royal stool real or not Who sat down to agree to such a notion ? When and where? You are just repeating things you have heard without thinking God did not make any body king or royal and God never sent beaded crowns from heaven It all starts One day. From. That day you become royal as long as you have the might and resources to project majesty That is what gives royalty meaning. Resources and might not beads You say Ibadan people are the one that made Olubadan title Who should have made it? Ogoni people? Who made Alaafin title? God? There has never been any thing like Yoruba land Just like there has never been any thing like Arab Land There are many Arab countries and so it was for those now called Yoruba Do they even call them Yoruba in Benin Republic? So because Ibadan have roots in Oyo their king is not real? Is that the logic? Is there any Kingdom that is eternal?that did not start one day? Even the King of England has a history 5 Likes 1 Share |

aribisala0: In other word, there has never been anything like a Nigerian president or a Nigerian governor. Provided they are elected by the people, they are (insert a name that fits your description) And again, according to your definition- there is nothing like Nigeria, or Ghana, or Sierra Leone. We are all (insert a name that fits your description) 5 Likes 1 Share |

aribisala0:I guess he is referring to history. Ibadan was a Ba'ale stool until less than 100 years ago, about 1930. It's not one of the old royal stools like Alaafin, Awujale, etc. Since Ibadan gained political prominence after fall of Oyo and during colonial era, the stool grew influential too. Being a young town and stool that began as a Ba'aleship by largely exiles, warriors and such, it was easier to institute a more egalitarian system than in the more ancient monarchies. The number is large at 42 monarchs including the Ba'ales because the system runs in a way that people tend to be old before they reach the top of the civil/Olubadan or the warrior/Balogun tree to ascend. They hardly stay more than 10 years. This is the third Olubadan to ascend since 2016. But today, Olubadan is a first class monarch and that's it. 8 Likes |

Segzy19: Nobody eliminates anybody. The truth of the matter is that they are mostly older when they get to the throne. Infact the late king had partial stroke as it was evident he was being guided whenever he is in public. He should have simply not accept the role. But Hey,it was his turn However, the process is a seamless and non violent one as Ibadan was a city built by warriors and so that their won't be crises and wars during successions, this plan was brought up and they have been following it ever since 5 Likes |

Dancebreaker:That is history that we all know There are many kingdoms that started with Baales not just Ibadan What Ibadan is practising. today is NOTHING TO DO WITH BAALE system and is not seen anywhere else. It is mainly to do with The fact that The key powers were of the Balogun class. They were warriors and fashioned something unique to avoid crises The King of England has a history . He has not been there forever Even Oduduwa met people in Ife. Let us stop this nonsense about beaded crowns There is no pronouncement in Ifa or anywhere that says a king must wear beaded crowns. That is the TRADITION OF SOME. not all 3 Likes |

aribisala0:Lol, who will stop Olubadan if he chooses to a wear beaded crown in his palace or anywhere in 2024? But we still need to have a historical perspective to educate people. If anything, it's kudos to Ibadan people how they managed to be punching so much above their weight almost since it was founded. In Nigeria today, the main categorisation is the obaship class. Everybody dey hin dey, my brother. 4 Likes |

Dancebreaker:They 'are not punching above their weight . With respect that is nonsense No one has a right to be addressed yes sir. It is transient Once it was Greece then Rome then Britain now the USA is the US punching above their weight? That is romantic. talk Deal with reality. Ibadan is where it should be in 2024 Beads do not have the same significance you are implying It is the TRADITION of some not all So let us not overflog this bead issue If you genuinely want to educate people tell them that The Alaafin dynasty along with other descendants that rule SOME kingdoms started less than 1500. Years ago and that Oduduwa was not an indigene of Ife. They and their descendants are the ones that like beads based on wherever Oduduwa came from With that background people will understand that there is nothing like real or fake royal They are all man made. Finally in what we know as Yoruba land today Not all kings are descendants of Oduduwa and not all kingdoms were vassals of Oyo So this Oyo narrative needs to. he put in perspective. |
