Fulanis never destroyed the Kanuri kingdom/empire. I hope you know there's something called the Kanem Borno empire. Though, the Kanuris were forced to retreat initially, they eventually reclaimed what they lost. This is why till date, the fulanis respect the Kanuris more than any other group in the north.

If you attack, you will be surprised how far you can go until you're stopped. Most of the Jihads were actually revolutions. Or people from the ground (mainly hausa) overthrowing their leaders.

They were stopped by groups (Jukun, Tiv, Igala, Ebira, Kanuri) in the middle belt who were much smaller and weaker than Igbo, Edo, Yoruba and Igala. Further, they relied on horses which would be severly limited in the south and they didn't have an entrenched presence in the south which they used to spark the revolutions and revolts. The Jihad succeeded where it had local cooperation like in the Hausa states and Ilorin

The fulanis had a good administrative and well organized army 💯. The British attested to this and that's why indirect rule worked in northern Nigeria off course after the bloody fall of sokoto caliphate battle.

Thank you for educating the OP. The jaba, Kagoro, Maroa Tribes of Southern Kaduna were never under Fulani domination. They always had their first class chiefs who were never under the Emir of Zaria. OP the north is broader than you think!

I disagree by your submission that the plateau tribes paid tribute. Plateau is a rocky terrain unless you mean the lowlands which is 20%
