I have a story that is vexing me about the Blood Bank department of LASUTH. If we don’t call this fraud, then what is it? 😡😡

Okay, people have been saying they do it but i have never believed until it got closer home.

If you are scheduled for a surgery at Lasuth, they make sure you donate 2 pints of blood at the blood bank first before they proceed with the surgery which is very nice. You get people to donate on your behalf irrespective of blood type. They will keep the bloods there so that when you come in for your surgery, you will have blood to go into the theatre with. They collect any blood type but on the day of your surgery, they will give you the exact blood type you need since people have been donating different types. Nice one.

There are agents around who will help you get people to donate those two pints on your behalf for 15k each or one person can donate the two pints for 30k. That’s not the issue.

What’s now the issue?

The issue is that when you come in for the surgery and need the blood you donated earlier, they will never be available. It’s always “no blood on ground”. Your wife is being wheeled into the theatre for surgery, you are running around for blood, therefore won’t care where the blood will come from. Now you have to approach a lab to buy blood.

The attendants will tell you you must only go to the labs registered with them to buy the blood. “Only the ones registered with them” for 25k per pint.

I even heard some doctors are tired of these people. Why is blood always not available after people donate donate donate and keep donating?

After my friend’s wife spent several days there, my friend was only able to recover one of the donated pint of blood from their blood bank from the two he donated. He sourced for the rest.

Isn’t this what fraud looks like?

Thise ones will take you to the office, make you oay to an office. They even have designated account numbers and lots of POS operatirs around them for the sake of obtaining. At the end of the day, na wash. Tbey get 30 billion, they declare 21 billion to FG amd share the rest. Untraceable, no audits

This is typical of Nigerians, corruption runs in our blood, but we only blame the government for everything.

Government is not responsible for everything wrong in this country, public members are also part

A problem exacerbated by the fact that we don't have a efficient blood banking system plus people are not willing to donate blood freely, it must always be at the last minute or for some money

Modifed

A lot of people have quoted me to dispute the above. I leave them with this quote from an interview the Vanguard newspaper had with one of the experts on the matter

With approximately 200 million people, Nigeria needs an estimated 1.8 million units of blood annually, but voluntary non-remunerated blood donation accounts for only 10% of total blood collection in the country.

Data from the NBSC states that Nigeria collects only 500,000 pints of blood annually from voluntary blood donors, leaving a shortfall of about 73.3% of blood need every year.

An average Nigwrian is Fraudulent by nature ..... corruption is in our DNA .... A world leader once said Nigeria Is a fantastically corrupt country!!!!

Even when there is no way, Nigerians must find a way to do fraud or defraud others.

Re: The Blood Bank Fraud At LASUTH By Lola Okunrin by NoToPile: 10:24am On Mar 30
Hmmm.

Well, even if you donate in general hospitals you have to buy blood when you need it Seems it's the screening fee etc etc. Technically seems you are paying for the screening not necessarily the blood itself.

All pregnant women are to get someone to donate.
Paying someone to donate for you is at your own discretion, if we have more willing and fit donors maybe we can have a better system.

The donation is supposed to guarantee availability of blood when you need it

The availability when you need might be another issue entirely, generally when you have donated you should be guaranteed blood.

People should be more enlightened to donate blood willingly. Lots are scared,
Most will only do it for a fee.

This is so sad. We must learn to stop preying on ourselves. Everything is not money, that is what makes me leave Nigerian matter. People are so myopic, they can't think beyond mula.

We make the easiest things in life hard.

You want to get birth certificate, someone will make mistake so you can come back and pay for their mistakes.

You want to go to school, they will bribe you for exam forms.

You want to get immunisation that is free, they will find a way to make you pay.

You want to take money fron your bank, they will bring BVN policy that is not my fault. I want to call for help, they will block my SIM because of NIN that is something they should have given me at birth. I now want to get passport, they will take bribe from me. Thank God for Tunji Ojo instructions because booklets are never available until you grease hands.

When you then want to travel out, one idiot at the airport will take your food or ask you oga anything for us angry angry angry The idiot that is supposed to do their job will let criminals bring in contraband but harass innocent people.

Police is my friend.Bail is free.

The private blood bank saved the life of my triplets and wife in lasuth.

Yes I paid but it was worth it .

You will appreciate the availability of blood wether private or public when you are the onlyb one running around for a sick person and you won't be able to donate blood from your body but you need emergency blood .

That was my case .

God did it.
