Another mediocrity.

Is 11mw for eba? The whole of Oyo State?

I am sure he is building it to buy over when he is leaving. Hey will just announce a PPP bla bla and he would pay a token later.

PHAYOL81:
Good for a start but as things stand, the OYSG should be thinking of hundreds of MW. They should endeavor to get major city and towns off the grid permanently.
I hope Lagos can just be bullish and set the pace. Produce at least a gigawatt and set the Island and some good part of the mainland free for live. And imagine the IGR such would generate for the state every month.
Where Lagos want see money build 1 GW of power plant? Lagos needs 10 GW to be fully powered and going the Aba Geometric project costs as a benchmark, it'll cost around $80 billion to build that kind of power plant.

$80 billion is around #100 trillion and Lagos is not even a #50 trillion economy.

Again, where Lagos want see gas that can power 10 GW gas plants?

Why not tackle his submission with something reasonable to at least prove that you’re not a nuisance?
He made some really valid points and I like the fact that he made it clear that both prof Nnaji and the Abia state Governments did really good job. Mind you, I said Governments because every member of Peter Obi’s horde of lunatics is hellbent on claiming that it’s Otti that did the project within 9 months of assuming power when the obvious truth is that the project started more than 10 years ago under various governments of the state ( 2 successive governments)
His major concern is that the amount quoted for the project (800 Million usd) is too much and that folks like you would have condemned it if it was the Federal government that claimed to have built a 188 Megawatt plant for $800 for just 9 LGA out of the 700 plus LGAs we have in the country.
Stop seeing every criticism as an attack on your tribe. I’m Yoruba but still not impressed by this meager 11megawatt being celebrated by the Oyo state government and I’m sure I would be ‘shocker’ by the time they announce to the public the amount of money the’ve expended on the project so far grin

IPP or solar farm?

But why can't Nigeria manufacture things like solar panels? Nigerian education is a total mess. All talk, nothing to show for it.

Honestly, no! During my curious age, I wanted producing solar panels. After using Fx series of casio calculator, I removed the solar panel to check the secret. I made real research.....

That was when I learnt of stuff like photosensitive materials, electron jump, silicon cell etc.

At such a tender age, I only knew how to improvise to set up all those components. I was haunted by my dad who never wanted to see me "play" but study, my limited knowledge of where to get those materials, my symbian phone which will always reference everything to US and UK.

After years of unsuccessful attempts, I landed in the university and the haunting continued, even worst.

It was an abandoned dream and abandoned hope.
Nevertheless, I was able to produce speakers from scratch. Achieved just by wounding coils around magnetic field and using silver film to reflect the sound.

I failed in:
Solar panels
Generating electricity with motors without battery
Electronic bell
Transistor radio.

In summary, Nigerian education is trash, it buries your aspirations. I later picked Civil Engineering in the University and it's still trash. I can only attribute 95% of the real world knowledge I have now to my Catholic secondary school.

We are deceiving ourselves thinking we are going to school in Nigeria. If we really want to offer STEM courses, they are very expensive because they often involve practical, experiment and research.

We cannot afford it in Nigeria; that's why we focus on theories, outdated practical, no research and no inventions. Imagine asking a Nigerian student to pay £10k (#20 million) per annum in tuition fees. That's the cheapest tuition fee you can get in the UK. Na money dem dey use cook beta soup; quality education isn't cheap.
Give us some credit na. Do you not have friends that other countries request to help them out with certain things or are seconded to other countries of repute and are superstars there? All of them naija education, nothing else. I agree naija has issues but naija education isn't a write-off.
In fact it is why I respect what Nigeria has done for many of us without shouts.

11MW might seems small right? I once had such thoughts until I searched how many homes a single megawatt can power. You will be shocked that, on average, 1 megawatt of power can supply electricity to around 400-900 homes.

So, how many homes can make up a mini estate?

Any way, in all, Nigeria needs to do better.

Why did you reduce a Megawatt power plant to A 650VA less than 400w actual power generator ?

List out the Load that make up your 1000w, without AC..
1 MW to power 1000 homes = 1KW each

Refrigerator: 200-1500w
bulbs(6) - 60W * 6 = 240W
TV: 80 - 200W
Fans(3) - 60 - 120W (* 3)
Sound system

But you can develop yourself. And that state of mindset of self-development is the TRUE EDUCATIONAL PROCESS THAT YOU NEVER GET EVEN IN ANY OF THOSE SO CALLED LOFTY ACADEMICAL INSTITUTIONS AROUND THE WORLD.

For example, via Constant self-driven research , I was able to nullifies to modify the law that says energy can neither be created nor destroyed. If energy can neither be created nor destroyed, there lies in Constant production of it from a never ending source which permeate and hold all solar bodies in the space and hang them there one by one UPON NOTHING!! Thus ENERGY THAT CAN NOT BE CREATED NOR DESTROYED CAN BE taped. That tapping requires RESONANCE.

I further discover that the AIR is not empty as it is being taught in the so called Modern Academical Institutions Around the globe.

Also, I discovered LENZ LAW is all deliberated crafted and presented to keep everyone Globally a slave to there oil and gas companies because RESONANCE is known to them too as what is Needed to Generate (not distribute) Constantly, Electricity in Electrical Transformers without burning any Oil nor Gas!!!!!

That Nigeria Education System is outdated is true but turning to those ones in Western world is not even the answer still.l expecially in science and tech field. If you wanna learn a level of good education in science and tech, Turn to RUSSIA as they are Taught Differently in Science.

In one breath Nigeria Education is trash and in the same paragraph you now attribute your brilliance to Catholic secondary education in NIGERIA
I tell people like you STOP DENIGRATING THE NIGERIAN EDUCATIONAL SECTOR.
if the sector is that bad, why then do the people it produces go on to become one of the best in their fields ?
If they don't have a solid foundation the Nigerian education system gave them, it won't have been easy making it in higher education.

Nigeria education system is not the best and has its challenges but please stop all this trying to pull it down.
Look how good you are with words, you should be proud of the system that made you

This is a waste of public funds. We have coal in abundance, which we can use. Or we can partner with countries like China to bring in modular nuclear reactor.

Nice one, but he could do better than this, makinde has been in the Oil and Gas construction business for long, what's 11MW , that would not Power one local government, or that's for the government house only, minimum we should be constructing now should be enough to power the state as a whole or more and sell the rest to another state, but 11mw na wa

If you have sense, you would have known that Geometric is a Genco, disco and transmission company. The transmission line alone runs over 150,000 KM.

The cost of building 100 MW of solar plant is $390 million in South Africa. Now imagine what it'll cost to build a 188MW gas plant with 25km gas pipeline and 150,000KM transmission lines.

Fear God o!!! 150k km is more than the distance from Lagos to London by 10 times

Guy calm down. 1GW is 1000MW. $2bln will probably build a 1000MW power plant. Max $3bln.

Split it 500MW each between EKEDC and IBEDC and it will make a serious dent in quality of electricity in Lagos.

Read before commenting. That project is for off-grid power to support infrastructures like street light, government hospitals, court houses, government Secretariat etc it's not ment for the general public.
Given the objective, 11MW should try.
What we should then demand is an IPP that will support the general public

$2 billion cannot build a 1000 MW gas-fired plant today, maybe in the West where the tech resides but not in Nigeria.

Just upgrading Egbin power plant from around 1,300 MW to 2,600 MW will cost $1.8 billion this year.

Lagos will spend about 3x that amount ($5.4 billion) to build a new one and will spend up to $8 billion to build an integrated power station like Geometric Aba.

Again, additional 1000 MW cannot power Lagos. It needs at least 5 GW to guarantee up to guarantee up to 18 hours of electricity throughout Lagos.

And like I said, Lagos doesn't have that money.

Where dey wan even see gas to power such project?

Only IMO state can guarantee such volume of gas to the plant and building a gas pipeline from Imo to Lagos no be here.

Lagos should just forget about 24 hours electricity for now.

If they are serious, they should encourage residents to power their homes with affordable solar programmes and then redirect their grid electricity to commercial and industrial uses.
