Hi

Hope you are doing good.... I don't have access to the email attached to this account sad

Can you give me an email you have access to? 😓

You can delete afterwards. Why I'm PMing is quite important.

Glad to hear this. I would have thought it is a genre thing because I am only finding out now that books are expensive, after I bought the one Geminità recommended. Those ones were even affordable. I saw expensive books and it made me respect writers and booklovers. It also made me hate piracy. Someone would work this hard to write a book, publish and people would go buy the pirated copies. Pheeew!

Anyway, reason that matter abeg. Na your talent you suppose use chop. Haha!

Nahh, they are o. grin

They are really expensive. From the binding to marketing/publicity, and even the time it'll take to print out copies is a lot of monies gone already.

Lol. Yeah, well. To be making "okay" money for living comfortably off of writing takes (time to) practice, consistency and probably some 'information/connection'. So it's not a breezy walk with talent alone.

Trolls reach everywhere. Once they identify a peaceful place, they arrive to destroy.

I am taking it a day at a time. Nigerians are good at adapting.

Of course not.cheesy
I just saw the "assalamualaikum" and "Allah" somewhere in your post and I somehow picked that these are adopted words of a predominantly Muslim population. The Muslim communities in East Africa also adopted some Arabic words in their languages.
I'm just impressed (though not surprised) that a Yoruba girl can speak it.

On another note, do you know that "dunia" also means "the world" in Kiswahili?

Hahahaha thank you.

Yes, even the Hausa Nation in Nigeria also adopted some Arabic words in their language.

For instance, "Alhamdulillah" is Arabic but people who don't know its origin will think it's a Hausa word.

I like Arabic language and a huge fan of it.

I lived in Abuja (Northern Nigeria) for a while and as such, the basic Hausa words/greetings, I understand.

Oh wow! That's interesting. Are you of Swahili descent?

folake4u:

No, I'm not. I come from a Bantu ethnic group around here, but Kiswahili is an official language in Tanzania, Kenya and some parts of DRC and Mozambique, so we all speak it.

You’ll also find it spoken in Rwanda, Burundi, Comoros and even as far as Oman. The people of Swahili descent are a minority but their influence reached far and wide.

I'm told it's one of the easiest languages to learn.
Why are you keen on Arabic though? Are you planning on eloping with the Saudi Crown Prince? tongue tongue wink

Oh nice. I've heard of the Bantu ethnic group before. Pray tell, are your people the original owners of Bantu knots hairstyle? cheesy grin

Interesting! I had no idea that the people of Swahili descent are a minority group. Been hearing of them from my childhood days. Same as Zulu. Thank you for enlightening me.

You know? I used to like Victoria Kimani back then. She was fire way back!!!! I don't know about now. I still like Sauti Sol. kiss
My favourite songs of them are the ones with Nigerian artistes. Their voice is so amazing!!

Read some of East African literature as well.
Wangarĩ Maathai, Binyavanga Wainaina, Jomo Kenyatta. I've read Ngũgĩ wa Thiong'o books. I was very sad when one of his children recently came to announce publicly on Twitter that the father was abusive.

Uhuru! Uhuru!! grin

I don't know funny enough. I just developed interest in Arabic language one time. I love Arabian names particularly. Arabian and European names. Not really a fan of English names.

Hahahaha I'm not really a fan of Arabian men sha. But I like their Crown Prince. He's rich. grin

I doubt that. cheesy
I think they just wanted this "native" feel to the name and 'Bantu' just seemed like a perfect fit. I mean, I don't know.... cheesy

You're welcome.
And speaking of Zulu people, I had also heard about them way before meeting them. There was this song about Zulu warriors we'd sing as kids. I still remember it. My mum also sung the same song as a kid. grin

She had fans here and there but she never did it for me. I do like Sauti Sol though. Maybe it's because they don't sing these cliché Kenyan songs that usually sound like nursery school rhymes. lipsrsealed

Interesting, because I read a lot of West African literature. Elechi Amadi, Chinua Achebe, Wole Soyinka, Ama Ata Aidoo, and Cyprian Ekwensi. We even did some of their books as literature set books. I also read Chimamanda's books but I still prefer the older novelists so far. Do you know that Soyinka's The Trials of Brother Jero has a Kiswahili version?

Uhuru! Uhuru!! grin
Aluta continua!!

Sure they have beautiful names, but me, eh? It's their food I like.
As for their men, many women don't like them (for lots of good reasons), until you hear that he's the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi. tongue grin
