Can you explain how marketing boards will work in today's Nigeria? Western Nigeria had Western Nigeria Marketing Board(Wemabod) in the past, from where wema bank sprang up.

The primary purpose of marketing boards is to ensure farming remains profitable. They fix and regulate pricing of specific products, to ensure farmers are not cheated by exporters, middlemen and other buyers. By fixing prices, farmers are protected throughout the year from losses due to volatility in the commodity markets.

In the past, Nigeria has marketing boards for Cocoa in the southwest, cotton & groundnut in the north, palm oil in the southeast, marketing boards for rubber et.all. This strategy was responsible for the growth of our agriculture industry back in the days, also part of reason why our Naira was so strong.

We can replicate similar strategy Obasanjo implemented when they brought all the regional boards to the center. Also, states can adopt their own marketing boards depending upon their individual competitive and comparative advantage. Just as simple as that

Are the farmers of the imported food also Nigerians?

What works are you doing to produce items for export to pay for the imported food
The farmers can be from India or Ghana for all I care. Nigerian farmers were given billions by CBN, they squandered it with nothing to show for it.
They should compete with their produce at the international market against their colleagues around the world and let us see first.

All the ones they invested, where is it? They have sold it outside Nigeria.
Federal government should do farming themselves and monitor it.
Nigerians are wicked, since the Buhari regime, he gave farmers all they needed, after giving them, they refused to sell it in the market, but choose to sell it to other countries and hoard the rest.
Federal government should do the farming themselves or bring in Chinese companies that will monitor it. Nigerian farmers are wicked, moreover bokoharam and Fulani herdsmen, Kidnappers are disturbing Nigerians.
For now, the best thing is to import food, our bushes are not safe or deploy Nigeria army to the farm.
Safety first

Democratic governments do not be involved in the production of anything .... they provide conditions for the businesses to prosper and apply regulations where needed to prevent exploitation or corruption. If the FG is giving loans to boost agriculture... then they should put measures in place with for the smarty pants.

A member of NASS during a session in the house mentioned recently that Nigeria should enback on importation of cement to break the monopoly of dangote and rabiu.

Most of the members make comments based on Emotions..

There is no scarcity of cement.. cement going up is not as a result of insufficient supply..

The big players just increased their prices cuz they wanted to..

Importing it will only cost Nigeria more problems with forex

Imagine Nigeria importing corn and food items instead of the federal government to flush out bandits in the bush. This government is not serious.

Why can’t government do both same time?

You lots just want to abuse government for abusing sake!

Military are currently flushing bandits out as we speak, and government is allowing import to stabilise prices.

That to me is serious government. Also, once you flush bandits out and farmers are secure, they plant and harvest, which takes time!

This is what we want..... Healthy competition between foreign products and locally produced ones. Although, concession should be given to indigenous manufacturers, so that they can also compete favourably....
How can local producers compete with foreigners? Lol
