Defamation, damage of reputation. Freedom of opinion is not freedom from it's consequences. If she claims that post caused her emotional distress then she has a case.

There is freedom of speech. He is a public figure.

I'll go first.

If I was the gospel singer, I would have pressured my husband to carry out the DNA test for the child and make this public.

This would be done in the presence of the husband, Nathaniel Bassey and an outside independent party.

After that Nathaniel Bassey and everyone else will prosecute the people responsible for this defamation with all possible resources.

Why did I say I would have done the DNA test?

Because we are all humans. Mercy Chinwo's husband is also human and the heart doesn't always think as we want it to think.

Yes, he may trust her. But trust can be shaken. I don't know about some people but most people will start looking at that child differently.

Trust sometimes also needs to be earned in a hard way. Going for a DNA test doesn't make you any less trustworthy, it instead build on the already existing trust.

Someone once said "trust the ATM to be right in dispensing the right amount but verify still by counting it"

Trust blindly but verify it in the end.

The husband has trusted her blindly. Now it's time to verify that trust to quench this fire.

Personally, I feel the resemblance is uncanny.

There are 2 angles to this issue that peeps are mixing up.

Whether the child belongs to Mercy's husband or not is a private matter. It is criminal for third parties (bloggers and co) to defame or cause harm publicly to another person's reputation on a private family matter regardless of whether the allegations are true or not.

This is why Mercy and Bassey are completely right in suing the busybloggies. The paternity of the child is a different issue that would be resolved in-house.

Realistically, it will be hard for Pastor Blessed not to second-guess the child's paternity even if he has to show public solidarity with his wife.

If you want to be a social media celebrity, be ready to make your private business public.

Since Mercy Chinwo got married and suddenly started sharing her private business with ‘us’ on the internet, it was only a matter of time before a scandal breaks out.

Anyone who knows her shld advise her she’s losing respect. Keep your personal/ family affairs private.

The mistake he made was telling her husband to do DNA test for the child. If he had only said the child looks like Nathaniel Bassey, the issue wouldn't have escalated. Telling someone to do DNA test on his son is as tantamount to accusation of paternity fraud.

That's how a child resemble one catholic priest in my neighbourhood. When the noise was too loud, the husband secretly conducted a DNA test and discovered he was not biologically related to the child.

Upon pressure on the wife, she named priest as the father. Funny enough, they have been secretly dating for 8 years when the lady was in secondary school and nobody suspected.

A send forth sex led to the pregnancy but she didn't know. She was more than confident when people were talking. She believed the child belongs to her husband until DNA proved otherwise.

The priest was initially transferred to a remote village, later suspended by the Catholic Church. He died last year.

I just skipped the writeup and looked at the picture. In my mind I was like "Yeah, that's definitely his child but he should just do DNA test in case.."

I didn't know that the man in the picture is not the husband until I read it . Whoever the husband is, he should do that test asap. I don't know why in a time when men can have 100% certainty they still need to be told to do it. If men gave birth you wouldn't need to remind women to do maternity test.

The baby looks like the man in the pics that's all I can say. But I trust the hubby will secretly do DNA test.
