Trust me, you have a very good landlord. May God continue to bless him. I can't forget in a hurry one of the most horrific experiences I had.

A friend of mine ( of blessed memory)who travelled abroad came back and needed a place to stay. As bachelor wey I be, I accommodated him because I felt it would be a waste of money for him to lodge in a hotel for like 2 months. On that fateful day, I went to see my parents and called this my friend that I may come back late, so he should please be on the lookout in case the gate is locked.

Unfortunately for me, my phone ba3 died and unknowing to me, this my friend had gone out but put my key somewhere for me because according to him, he had been trying to reach out to me, but my phone was off. To cut the long story short, I came back around 10pm and was knocking and knocking at the gate for like 3 hours and no one came to open. Around 1am or so, I had to scale the fence because I didn't have any friend close by and I didn't want to go back home to my parents because it was very dangerous at that time of the day with robbery incidents and all and also because I was a bit drunk due to "several issues "I was facing at the time.

So back to my story, na so I scale fence o and slept in front of my door because I didn't know that my friend kept the key for me. I thought he mistakenly took it with him. Around 3am or so, that was how I felt a sharp pain on my back . I didn't know my neighbours or landlord had gone to call OPC vigilante and also the police that a thief broke into the compound. Na so them start to molest me o. Honestly, I cried that day, not because of the pain, but because of the denial and embarrassment I got.

I vowed never to give birth in that compound even if I marry because it made me to realise the kind of people I was living with. Imagine coming at 10pm and nobody responds at all despite using force and even stones to hit the gate to get attention. See ehn, I DONT CARE neighbours are in abundance. They just only care about themselves and I learnt a very big lesson that day.

Suffice to say the police that came were reasonable and very understanding and never molested me, but the OPC vigilante people that used the side of cutlass to be flogging me. I had my revenge on the perpetrators exactly a year after and they also pleaded with me and we settled, but that's a story for another day !

My story goes thus.My neighbour wife almost set our compound on fire . She was cooking indomine and went to buy bread and Pepsi. On coming back she went to another flat gisting. Meanwhile the smoke in there flat has envelope their flat and also escaping to outside. I have to rush out and started shouting her name and broke the door to stop the fire. The husband just stayed at their door and thank me casually when a he comes back in the evening. The thing pain sha.
Fast forward there was a day I asked him to always on his outside light because the . He told me that my flat no reach his side and that I should mind my business. That was the same person I saved their flat from being burnt. If I have mind my business may be that flat would have burnt beyond recognition.

Go to Finland and you can go on for months and you wouldn't see your neighbor. My Aunt relocated to Netherlands and when she got her apartment, bouquet of flower was dropped at her door step with note that read, "you are welcome , we are glad to have you".

lol happens to me all the time with them. I have just come to the conclusion that they are still angry about Biafra and walk around with anger especially if they sense you are Yoruba they will just look at you in anger and not answer your question. Thank God for the kind of people thst live in the estate where I.live ...just press your phone more than 5 people are ready to come help. Sometimes I do drive some residence late midnight to the hospital....emergency situation.. love your nebor no be for mouth . I better pass my neboor is the order of the day

I am lucky o 😄. My neighbours and I coperate o. We even share Christmas and Easter food. We have a WhatsApp group and we dey open gates for ourselves when our aboki security guard takes off from the gate house to pray or run errands. We also charge phones in any neighbour's house that puts generator on and borrow iron from each other if any body's own gets spoilt

Why are they like that? It is sad. I used to actually believe the stories that they are special and bullied by everyone because they are successful. My personal life experiences taught me otherwise about this tribe that I loved and admired so much ... Now, I don't judge them all by my experiences, but I noticed I'm more careful these days.

People living in Abuja estate usually behave that way.

The first time I moved into the estate I was at previously, I was greeting everybody. Eyebrows were raised, and no response to greetings. I got used to it and adjusted well.

Although there's estate group chat and helpline to call for emergency purpose.

Nigeria is not in any way individualistic. We are a nosy people, never willing to take responsibility for our misbehaviours and carelessness. if they're not blaming co-tenants, they will create threads blaming landlords, etc. Think about it, how many times have you seen Nigerians abroad complaining about their landlords? Many don't even know the owner of the house they live in. That's how individualistic people do. Over here, everyone is trying to get into other people's business, not because they really care, but to be sure you're not doing better than them. Fake people. Waking up every day to fight over borehole contribution or NEPA contribution is what many consider as "having caring neighbours." LOL. Crazy country.

Some said "nobody go sleep for the compound if nobody open the gate." Can these people try such in a saner, individualistic country?
