Apostle Chibuzor Gift Chinyere, General Overseer of the Omega Power Ministry, OPM, has vowed not to renew his DStv subscription due to the price hike.

DAILY POST recalls that Multichoice Nigeria earlier this week, announced an increase in the cost of subscriptions for its DStv and GOtv packages beginning from May 1.

The pay-TV firm said from May 1, customers on the DStv premium bouquet will pay N37,000 as against the current N29,500, and those on Compact+ would pay N25,000 from N19,800

Customers of the Compact bouquet will pay N15,700, up from N12,500.

To subscribe to Confam, Yanga, and Padi packages, customers will pay N9,300, N5,100, and N3,600 from N7,400, N4,200, and N2,950 respectively.

The development has triggered anger across the country as customers lamented the present hardship.

In a post on his official Facebook page on Friday, the OPM founder said he will not renew his last subscription until the price drops.

The post reads, “Millions of Nigerians can no longer meet up with the current price of DStv/GOLD TV subscription because of the current economic reality in Nigeria.

“So as my current subscription is expiring, I shall not be renewing my DSTV subscription until DSTV reduces the price.

“Starting from today I will be searching for alternatives that I will be watching because basically it is majorly news and OPM TV which is a 24-hour television station I watch when I am chanced.

“But DSTV, NO to the renewal of subscription until prices are reviewed downwards”.

Imagine unlimited Airtel EBB with no Fair Use Policy (FUP) and ~~20Mbps~~ 40Mbps speed for 30days is ~~N20,000~~ N35,000

Netflix for 4 devices is N5000, showmax is as cheap as N1200

then I will go and waste N37,000 on DStv premium?

when I also have one thousand and onety one free sources to stream online? even live matches?

EDIT: 20k unlimited is no longer available, only 35k unlimited 30days at 40Mbps is the minimum.

Even if I sub my Dstv today, I know it won show me anything not even the Dstv logo. Since the last time i sub the decoder, alot has happened. The frequent heavy breeze in my area don twist twist the dish sotai, eh don dey face where nobody dey call am grin

. Thunder don even strike like twice wey fry everything for the house inverter set, tv, home theater, chargers, even fans,... And e sure me die say hand go don touch that decoder too. With this yeye hikes, I go surmount courage throw am into dust bin soon and it will be completely out the things I need to worry about.

Telecom network providers all this while, in spite of the ongoing hardship in the land, Naira floating didn't increase tarrif but this callous company called multichoice kept on increasing its tarrif unabated
