Why do farmers buy fruit seeds? Can't you take out of the hundreds of seeds from the fruit?🤷‍♀️

Cows don't eat water melons 🤢🍈😁🤣

If they don't eat it, they will destroy the crops by trampling on it. That's how wicked they can be

Osun state, Osogbo.

Even in the south, rain hasn't been falling regularly. People who want to plant maize are just starting

Op what part of Osogbo? That's my place and I have something going on in Iwo presently. If you have chance let's chat.

The journey started towards the end of February when I started the clearing of the yet to be developed 5 plots of land around my house.
I have two reasons for doing this:
One: to push the busy around my house back
Two: to get me busy every morning before I go out for the day as I actually have plenty of time on my hand grin
I equally bought and planted hybrid of water melon among the melon, about 100 seeds for N4500.
This was planted middle of March after the first rain.

OP, are you sure it's wise to plant watermelons among melons (tares and wheat situation). Cross pollination will surely happen and may not be helpful? BUT WHAT DO I KNOW ABOUT FARMING? Let the gurus throw more light, sha!

Where's the location of your farm?

We've not really started farming normal In the North because of lack of rainfall..

We're praying for May to be nice
Especially Sokoto, Zamfara and Kebbi axes

To grow maize is cumbersome though. Birds, goat, rodents even lizard will act as the 'cankerworm'

Nice .. I'm doing something like this ...
I have Melon farm
Water melon farm
And Maize farm
... although, all in the backyard.
May God bless our hustle this year.

This is my surroundings as well but couldn't plant maize as much as I would like to because of goats. Couldn't really lay my hand on water melon seeds. The one I bought was like less than 100 seeds at N4500

Not planted among but separately and I don't think the two can cross pollinated successfully. The water was just few seeds on a small portion of the land

Kudos to you and others doing things like this.
But are you guys not worried about planting for some guys to havest or you have security guys guarding the farm?

Na so I told a young guy who went into fish farming. After months of feeding. The day of harvest.
Fishes met in the pond no pass 35. He was shedding tears when he called me.

Such are the reasons I dont feel encouraged to go into farm.

Naija is a special country.

Good luck anyways.

Lol... planting seeds extracted from fruits is like gambling cos you dont know the history/variety you are planting.
In commercial scale, it's better to buy seeds from seed dealers or farmers who grow them cos they get to know the history (disease/ drought resistance ability, maturity date, yield, size/shape of the fruits etc) of the seed they are buying. The history helps to make some informed decisions...for example, some varieties of seed crop are better planted during dry season while some in rainy season.

Amen. Thanks.
I would have loved maize and melon inter cropping but goats wouldn't let me take the risk of planting maize in an open place like this.
But we just planted maize on a partially fenced plot of land beside me. If I can't go through the trouble of barricading it, madam has volunteered to use cow manure on it regularly to keep goats away from it. We will see how it goes
have you encountered any lalasticlala friends (snakes) on the farm yet?
cool
