Leave the Balotelli to his antics. They promote willful ignorance when it suits them. That's why they turn deaf and dumb when government enforces their notice in Anambra grin

CluelessMODS:

It is only in Nigeria that people like you call degradation of the environment nonsense yet you want Nigeria to be like Dubai. Una never start. The demolition of houses in Eboyin and Anambra was also because of tribal affiliations abi?

@naptu2 thank you for ALL the threads you painstakingly create. How you establish the history that lead us here is what I like about your threads.

To all those that say that have gone from "oh they gave them only 2hours" to "EVERYTIME there is flooding they demolish", one person can't use his property and cause a thousand others suffering so the government has to do the needful.

See how quiet they were when they were asked if they had documents but their online minions will be here making noise.

You were given notices 3 years and you didn't seek to remedy it before government came for you, now you want to whip up ethnic sentiments.

It is willful. Balotellis know exactly what they are doing when it's outside their region and know when to turn deaf and dumb grin

Once people build illegally on water channels, you remove what is obstructing the flow of water.

There were major incidents of flooding in the Mende and Aboru areas in 2020, 2021 and 2022 and the Lagos State Government subsequently issued contravention orders to owners of properties that had encroached on the right of way of the System 1 Canal, a canal that is a very important drain on the Mainland.

Contravention notices were issued in 2021, 2022 and 2023.

Late in 2023 the residents, accompanied by the representative at the Lagos House of Assembly went to see the Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources. The Special Adviser to the Governor on the Environment was also at the meeting.

At that meeting the residents admitted that they had been served contravention notices since 2021.

However, a singer, Yemi Alade, recently said that the residents were only given 2 hours notice before their properties were demolished. This thread documents all the events, beginning from the floods.

Thank you for this.
I have always said Nigerians are the number reason government won't work.
For any system to work in Nigeria you need to shut your ears to Nigerians

Where was the govt when the house was being built?

Are you saying such massive hose was being built in a high brow area like Mryland and the govt was not aware?

Lagos is almost entering the Atlantic Ocean geographically so there'll always be flood occasionally. Don't use this normal flooding consistent with coastal areas as excuse for demolitions.

Even if you demolition 100% of houses in Lagos, there'll still be occasional flooding. Coastal cities like Venice, Sicily gets flooded constantly. Countries like the Netherlands and Italy gets flooded.

We know the game plan but our electoral choices remains our electoral choices and will always be based on equity and justice!

Shoosh your mouth.

Stop defending evil. Sanwolu has done nothing other than destroying Igbo owned houses and properties in Lagos since after the 2023 Elections for the simple racist reason that the Igbo didn't vote for him. In this harsh Tinubu economy all you could think of is destroying people's livelihood. Your reward awaits you.

Mende wey I know like the back of my hand.

Many built houses that later sank into the ground.

Pako bridge linking Mende at Ajose street to Ojota, used to have a house that only the top window of the 1st floor was still above the ground. It eventually got demolished and the mechanics around there expanded their workshop over it.

All the canal pathway within Mende has been turned into one estate or the other. In those days, you will stand on the ground near the swamp area of Mende, and the ground will be bouncing.

Same thing applied to Arowojobe Estate in Mende, but people kept on sandfilling the swamps and building houses like no man's business.

Gone are the days Alligators used to be found in the canal areas of Mende

I noticed building sinking also in Port Harcourt. Someone bought a swamp and built an estate on its. There were at the plastering stage when the building started sinking inside.

But why are engineers and architects wicked. Why not inform the owner not to build on such land. undecided

I state facts, I don't defend anything and you haven't been able to state any facts to counter what I posted. All you did was to post a wild rant that means nothing. Therefore I'll take it to mean that you have no facts to post. smiley

I think it is the greed of the landowners who are determined to put the land to use. Due to the same greed, they go for structures that the land cannot carry.

Keep quiet and stop this deception. There was a destructive flooding in Dubai not long ago. Did you hear they went about destroying houses and blaming the same victims whom they( govt) gave approval to build the houses in the first place? This subterfuge won't sway sane, reasonable, and objective persons.

Ok, but wouldn't the engineers rather reject such construction job from the landowner?

It's better than soiling their professional reputation.

Well, I have nothing against proper urban planning and restructuring.

That said, demolition of houses and structures blocking major waterways is non-negotiable.

However, 2 hours to vacate will never make sense.

Even if you sent them earlier notices, still come in person with your bulldozers at least a day before.

That gives them 24 hours minimum notice prior to actual demolition.

To just show up, and tell them to leave instantly is shockingly inhumane.

In addition, Lagos state government needs to work on their land and building laws... They need to start removing grey areas, and leaving no room for doubts for those intending to develop.

One way would be to use every avenue of public enlightenment like social media and the Internet.

They should also tackle corruption within environmental and building ministries and parastatals.

Whether the flooding was caused by natural or man induced rain is not the issue here. The point is that you Yoruba are looking for cover to undo the Igbo in Lagos for no reason other than morbid and delusional fear that the " Igbo is taking over your land". Igbo cannot take over Yoruba land because it's not even possible. Neither is any Igbo man nursing such untoward feeling.
