Ibani language is the language of the native, but ibo is the common language just like hausa in the north.

So how come they're ijaws? Stop contradicting yourself Mr man

When time comes they will join Biafra if you like don't focus on your life. Keep fooling yourself about people you know nothing about.

They dread water like.. that's why they call them a stone. they don't settle near water, they are traditionally farmers who settled in the hinterlands to survive on subsistence farming. they have never been fishermen. But in the 21st century, they suddenly love coastal water.

The Missionaries recorded that they Consider Rivers and the Ocean to be dieties
So they preferred staying away from them

Everybody in Bonny migrated from elsewhere but Igbos are majority. The reason it is considered as Ijawland is because the earliest settlers were Ijaw while Igbos populated it in bulk later either as traders, slaves, mercenaries or acculturated slaves. In answer to the bolded Igbos were always the better traders whether with Europeans or with fellow Africans and yes fishing is a predominant occupation among various Igbo groups especially the ones living near large water bodies.
do you have any documented historical evidence that supports your claim of Ijaws as earliest settlers of Bonny?

Here's a link of an earlier thread about Bonny on nairaland that showed with historical proofs the origin and later people's of Bonny. We all know how Opobo came to be.
https://www.nairaland.com/6871524/true-identity-bonny-opobo-people
Ijaws can never rewrite the history of the people. We have lots of european explorers that documented what they saw at Bonny back in the days.

Meanwhile, the author of this thread is Yeriba hater who thinks all the rubbish he is saying makes any sense. Don't take anything he writes seriously.

Try as much as you can, you can never rewrite history. Ijaws are the natives, ibos are settlers. Jaja himself was given the title by his ijaw masters, he was captured a slave from the hinterland in the east and sold to his ijaw masters. how possibly can a slave found the land of his master?. the ruiling houses from bonny to opobo were created by Amayanabo. facts are sacred.

Most history in Africa were undocumented so the Europeans documented what they met at that point in time of which Igbo was already there however when you look at the migratory pattern and proximity to both Ijawland and Igboland it is more likely that Bonny was first settled by Ijaws before Igbos.

The first king of Bonny was Alagbarinye and after him was Okpara Ndoli. I guess these names are Ijaw names.
Here it was also stated by European explorers that the Ibanis/Ubanis came from the interior Igbo country to found Bonny. The Ndokis are the rightful owners of Bonny. May this truth continue to choke you.

waited for you to answer my first question but you ran away.
Amayanabo is not an Ijaw title perse. Ijaw word for king is perekule not Amayanabo.

There are even proofs the word has ndoki origin. Again, for the records, Opobo and Bonny people are basically Ndoki Igbos. They speak Igbo and practice Igbo culture. However, riverine people of the nigerdelta be it Igbos, those in Bayelsa, Ibenos, Urhobo etc have a certain way of life peculiar to them such answering European names. Opobo and Bonny are not exceptions but that does not diminish their Igboness.

I am currently watching governor Fubara of Rivers state commissioning a road and a Kalabari leader who called the Governor an Ijaw man had to interpret the Kalabari language to governor in English. Lol

Wonders they say shall never end.
So you mean to say when the kalabaris and okrikans address their king as Amayanabo, they are wrong and it must be Perekule, really?? Ibo man wan teach me my culture.
And for the record, bonny, Opobo and other land you guys may want to claim don't share the same culture with you Igbos.
The only thing common btw is is the religion we practise, nothing else.
Before you continue foaming in the mouth, I am from Opobo Town and believe me we don't share your culture.
We don't do yam festivals, we don't do August meetings, we don't have market days like you do, we are mostly fishing people.
Yes there are people who speak the Igbo language in Opobo that doesn't make the kingdom Igbo, no nah.
I mean, the most west Africans speak French, has that changed them, have they become french citizens??

Enof of these claims every day here on nairaland and now on twitter. Enof of it.

Oko Jumbo was also an ibo slave in bonny. was it a mistake that ijaws embraced ibo slaves into their ruiling houses?. Ijaws were only being magnanimous. Every ruiling house is a dynasty of king Perekule.

Ijaw homeland is Delta State. Igbo homeland is Ndoki few kilometres away from Opobo and Bonny.
By simple logic, who stood chance of getting to Bonny and Opobo first?

Early Europeans met people in Bonny who they asked of the first settlers on the Island, they all pointed towards Ndoki/Ngwa Igbo homeland.
So what are you on about?

Read very well the first sentence on the screenshot. Captain Adams himself admitted that his opinion of the natives of Bonny was probable (not certain or definate). the native language of Bonny is ibani but people speak ibos predominantly because of trade. you can easily mistaken the natives as ibos. One can pardon the foreign man for mistaken identity.

The writing from Dr. Baikie was more definite. The inhabitants of Bonny are of Igbo descent

Amanyanabo is not Ijaw. Pere is Ijaw.
Bonny was founded by Igbo ancestors, this very truth was told by the inhabitants the colonials met on the Island and was recorded for posterity.

As you rightly wrote, the two subsections of the Igbo society that founded Bonny/Ubani are
1. Ngwa people
2. Ndoki people

Both groups are bonafide Igbo groups, and the indigenes of Bonny left no one in doubt as to their ancestry, hundreds of years ago before latter-day revisionists came to the scene.

Ngwa and Ndoki people founded Bonny.

One thing they have not thought of is that the Bonny indigenes that claimed Igbo ancestry, never claimed to be Ijaws.

To make matters worse for them, the Ijaw revisionists will also have to create an extra fake Ijaw identity for the Ngwa people.

When the time comes, the few Ndoki elders that sold their individual heritage to the Ijaws for a few pieces of silver, will be rightly ostracized, with their descendants made OSUs as a lesson to these hungry Igbos that willfully betray the Igbo cause.

Ijaws go explain tire grin grin grin grin grin

We look forward to the Ngwa fake tales by Ijaws to make their 419 claims complete.

For the Igbos, every book written by neutral observers from 1900 downwards, made it clear that Igbos own UBANI. That is one fact Ijaw landgrabbers will never be able to wriggle out of.
