When Gowon was dividing the regions from 4 to 12, only Igbos resisted him. Yorubas supported him if not he wouldn't have succeeded. The Hausa-Fulanis and Yorubas ganged up against the Igbos to balkanise the regions and then turn around to say Igbos destroy the regions. Whatever Ironsi did would have been reversible if Gowon with the support of Awolowo did not create states.

From 4 regions to 36 states plus FCT, not a single one was created by Igbos...they were all created by Northern and Yoruba military head of states and these heads of states were illegitimate governments because they were not voted for.

As far as the 1963 constitution is concerned,
we still have 4 regions, Gowon govt is illegitimate and as such null and void.

My only challenge with you guys is that you prefer to do nothing even though you're alive but complain about one dead ironsi.

If you feel we cannot restructure now, so what are we doing in Nigeria? Why can't we break the godamn union?

Nigeria was on true Federalism, each Region on their own and bring certain % of their revenue to Federal until General Aguyi Irosi came and turned Nigeria to a Unitary country where all revenue comes to the Federal first, then share to States.

Now his people are crying for true Federalism as if it was not their son that caused the problem.

Awolowo asked for a team up from Azikiwe.

Awo heard on radio that Azikiwe had ran up North to betray him.

The "over-smartness" of Zik turned him and his people into 3rd Class citizens.

Nzeogwu et al. Did 1966 coup and killed SW and Northern leaders while sparing the lives or Igbo leaders. Again those whose leaders were killed learnt a lesson and decide to teach the "over-smart" ones by making them 3rd Class citizens.

Ojukwu ruthlessly crushed secession of Niger-Delta because of greed for their oil resources. Same Ojukwu felt he was oversmart and still declared secession and wanted the same oil rich region.

Since 1999, Igbos preferred to slave for the North in PDP. They enjoyed Yorubas being minority and in opposition. After more than 23 years of slavery, some of you have learnt a lesson from oversmartness. Some haven't.

You guys love peddling that lie. But unfortunately, this is internet age. Anyone can Google and see that it was Gowon that used Decree 14 to abolish all 4 Region's Nigeria had, and replace them with 12 states.

If anyone tells you that Ironsi abolished Region's or introduced unitary rule, know that's its a big lie. It's not possible to have unitary rule where there is resource control, and it's not possible to abolish Region's without replacing it with something else. Ironsi never touched resource control, and the 4 Region's he met when he came in were still there the day he was killed. What Ironsi introduced was Military rule. The person who abolished the 4 Region's, and created 12 new states to replace them, was Gowon, with Decree 14. Gowon then introduced full blown unitary rule with Decree 15 that ended resource control. Below are Decree 14 and 15
