Just-in: Gov. Yusuf Orders Arrest of Deposed Emir of Kano Aminu Ado Bayero

The Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has ordered the immediate arrest of the former Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, for creating tension in the state.

The former Emir was smuggled into Kano city last night in an attempt to forcefully return to the palace two days after being deposed by the Governor.

In a statement issued by Mr. Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the spokesperson to the Governor, it was confirmed that the new Emir, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, arrived at the palace in the company of the Governor, the Deputy Governor, the Speaker of the State Assembly, and other top government functionaries at about 1:00 a.m. on Saturday, 25th May 2024.

As the Chief Security Officer of the state, His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has directed the Commissioner of Police to arrest the deposed Emir with immediate effect for disturbing public peace and attempting to destroy the relative peace the state enjoys.

That man is trying to prove stubborn, if not what did he go back to kano state to do again?

If to say Nigeria was a country that truely wanted to move forward, na to scrap all these monarchs and send them and their linage on international exile. All of them from oni of ife, oba of benin, olu of warri, obi of onitsha, oba of Lagos, Olu of Ibadan, emir of kano, emir of illorin. All of them are part the of the reason this country will remain like this. We suppose don pass this level. A country as diverse as Nigeria can not work with such things.

I don't think Sanusi would even be happy for his cousin to be arrested.

Calm down mr man in where I came from (Benin )obaship has never been a curse to her people even during the precolonial era the great Benin Empire thriving and I think southwestern also enjoyed same thing. We need to modify the constitution that allows traditional rulers to be appointed and deposed by governments.

The constitution should provide guidelines and modalities for traditional rulers and stools but not give governors power to appoint and depose as they wish.

Appointment should be done the way it was always done, by king makers.
