Burkina Faso Coup leader Captain Ibrahim Traoré extends military regime by 5 years after national consultations

Burkina Faso's military regime, in power since a 2022 coup, will extend its rule for five years under an accord adopted during national consultations on Saturday.

"The duration of the transition is fixed at 60 months from July 2, 2024," Colonel Moussa Diallo, chairman of the organising committee of the national dialogue process, said after the talks.

He added that coup leader and acting president Ibrahim Traore can run in any elections at the end of the transition period.

The army has governed Burkina Faso since 2022, carrying out two coups that it justified in large part due to the country's persistent insecurity.

Two years already spent. Another five years for transition. Thereafter he can run in the elections to be supervised by himself, using the army and some gullible citizens. He recently increased salaries as a show of his “sincerity” and was applauded by the people.

The young man has already shown himself as a student of despotic African leaders. He has shown his ability to be the President for life. He has shown his intention to be reckoned among the sit tight leaders.

Africans need to wake up and demand proper leadership. Africans should no longer surrender their lives to such horrible leaders, whose only plan is to loot, kill and destroy.

During the military rule there was law and order. Food was cheap. Transportation was cheap. Economy was not up to 100th as bad as it became when the civilians took over and started sharing money among their friends and family. Abacha stole a lot of money during his reign, and when part of that money was returned later by the Europeans, the civilian government shared it. So what's the difference?
