Democratic rule.

The problem with Nigeria is that we haven't realized how powerful we are under democracy. We also don't really want good government, we want our side to win. And that is where a lot of problems start.

I know things are bad now, but I saw army rule, and things were bad then. All the complaints we have now, we had them under army rule. All the issue with japa...we had them under army rule...so tey the Buhari army regime was running propaganda ads to discourage NIgerians from japa then. Yes, it happened, the Andrew adverts.

The thing about Nigeria and most African countries is, we are broke because we think we can make a living by selling cocoa, cotton, oil,etc, and sharing the money equitably. We can't ANd not because of corruption, we also have issues with the fact that resource dependency does not yield enough money. Add the fact that we are not taxing enough of our gdp, plus we are not even growing our GDP...and it is no wonder we have to take loans, are in debt, and are in crisis.

At least under democracy, I have the right to call tinubu a failure. Calling an army ruler a failure got you detention for months. News media calling army rule failures got shut down for months on end. The internet did not blossom under army rule (by 1997, internet connectivity for the whole of Africa was less than that of New York city)...so we don't know what would have happened if Nairaland was there ...but if it was, it won;t have lasted enough.

And the economy was a mess under army rule. Even during the oil boom, we were laying the foundation for the mess we face now. SUbsides on everything in the 1970's led to debt and deficit in the 1980's, so much that we had to take SAP to surivive.


You can laugh at me, but Army rule was no better. And we cannot have true democracy until we wake up and stop seeing it as my side vs your side.

In Democracy, Politicians embezzle money and misbehave. The masses protest. And politicians pretend they'll do better.

In Military Rule, Soldiers embezzle and misbehave. Anyone who protests will be MURDERED. And the Military will tell you they are Saints.

The scope of embezzlement perpetrated by Abacha will RUPTURE your mind.

The scope of PURE evil and brutality perpetrated by Idi Amin makes the Devil look like a cute puppy.

This is NOT a secondary school debate.

Only a person with MENTAL IMPAIRMENT will argue for Military Rule in Africa.

Even though you MAY have made sense, your style of writing is really pugnacious. Every type of government, be it military or democracy has its downside, what's important is the overall effect on the well being of the people.

Military kill, politicians kill. Gaddafi killed as a president, also as a military head, but the nation of Libya was better for it.

Hope Obidients are reading this. This is their prayer for Nigeria. Another 5 yrs of military hostility, no one can talk, prominent people in the country are caged, pressmen are gagged, looting unstoppable, human rights abuse, possibility of extension of military rules is high, and counter coup can't be ruled out.

During the military rule there was law and order. Food was cheap. Transportation was cheap. Economy was not up to 100th as bad as it became when the civilians took over and started sharing money among their friends and family. Abacha stole a lot of money during his reign, and when part of that money was returned later by the Europeans, the civilian government shared it. So what's the difference?

If if will bring peace, tranquility, respect for rule of law, reduce corruption and improve the economy then it's highly welcomed. Any system that will make Nigeria a better is what sane people seek .
