Please how do I go about this too; I was to send light bill to a Palmpay account but mistakenly send it to OPay account, mind you the wrong account brought out same name with the Palmpay account obviously it’s the same account number, but now the person I am paying to said she doesn’t have an OPay account. How do I get my money back from the OPay account that doesn’t exist.

Tell her to open an opay account with her phone number the money will be there waiting for her.

Your bank is not reliable to have given this kind of reply. Your bank is supposed to be on your side, what your bank need is Court Order, give the recipient's bank to work on(either call their client, request for his permission to refund the money or blacklist his account until he/she comes forward to sort the issue).

I went to a magistrate court and they prepared it sighed by the magistrate. I paid 10k. It's court order, not court affidavit.
But before I went to court the bank blocked the receiving account.
Follow the same process.

you're arguing ignorantly please. Nigeria has one of the best banking laws in Nigeria. All the op needs is to collect proof of payment from his bank,go to the court and swear an affidavit and submit it to the creditor's bank and a lieu will be placed on the account.

He either refunds the money or he can no longer withdraw money from the account. If the op goes further to escalate it as a criminal act, his BVN gets flagged and all his accounts goes on NO DEBIT. He will be arrested whenever he steps into any bank in Nigeria.

Why are people so ignorant. Any money mistakenly sent can be retrieved if you follow the right channel. Through the court and the recipient bank with evidence. It's that simple.

Try to go ask opay for the details of the account you transfered to. Or at least you must have that info on your phone. Approach uba to complain and even try your luck if they will give you the customers contact. This is unlikely though. Your best bet is if you have a paddy that works in the bank and is willing to help you get the customers details anonymously. This is also hard because he can lose his job if it backfires.
With that info you can call the person and plead with him to send back your money. But knowing Nigerians, the chances are slim.

He can track the person and show him one or two things about returning money not theirs.

A friend of mine got scammed recently. How? Someone pretending to be from his bank called him. Since it was his bank, he trusted the caller, not realizing it was a scam. He gave away his account details from his ATM, thinking he was helping his bank. But in reality, the scammer used this information to withdraw money from his account. It turns out the scammer used Carbon, a loan app, which suggests the fraudster has an account with Carbon. Now, I'm wondering if there's a way to recover the money through Carbon since the scammer used it. Any idea on how to recover the money?

You can get a court order if there was a crime, that individual got into your account and transferred money to their accounts. Then with the proof of a crime, you are able to get a court order to freeze the account.

In this case, you WILLINGLY transferred the money to the guy, you have his account number and his name, and you still went ahead to transfer. There is no crime committed on the part of the recipient.

The big difference is you transferring and that person taking funds from your account, the former is not a crime while the latter is a crime.

There is none whatsoever. He did not take your money, you gave it to him. Even the banks will never disclose his identity to you. Your best bet is to look for him and negotiate, you won't get it back with gra gra. If you send 200M to my account, you won't get a dime back as I will move the funds to my offshore holding accounts immediately. I do this all the time, way out of the reach of Nigerian banks. You can only beg me but can never use force cos I know the law very well.

I had a similar experience last year at my wife shop, a man came to make a transfer transaction with her Opay pos machine, I mistakenly sent 78k instead of 7.8k to a UBA account, the man left and there was no way I could recall the person. It was after the day business that I realized I made a mistake, the following morning I went to UBA bank with the details , they check the transaction and tried calling the recipient but the number was not connecting, I was asked to go and get court order so that they can officially place PID on the account. While I was seeking for a way to get the documents they called me that the woman had responded to there calls, to cut long story short she sent the balance of 60k to my wife UBA account, I suggest you go to UBA bank.

You said the truth. My guy sent 35k to somebody one morning because he used Face ID as password he selected a wrong recipient. Face ID captured him and sent the money to an unknown person. Thank God the recipient was a very good devoted Muslim. My guy told him to send 30k and keep 5k for himself

The woman just decided to be nice or just afraid. PID ko PES ni. If she no return nothing will happen

That is the best path of action, beg and negotiate. Even in advanced countries with strict consumer laws, there is absolutely no recourse in the law to get back your money in situations like this talkless of lawless society like Nigeria where I can easily bribe the commissioner of police.

I think these are things we need to petition the legislative arm of government for. I believe abroad it wouldn't be so difficult to retrieve because of systems in place.
