Cable TV is better. With streaming you’d experience inconsistent viewing experience caused by internet connection which will ultimately lead to buffering and most times low quality streaming where the video quality drops from 760p to 240p. Even with your data you won’t enjoy your favorite TV shows and matches all the time because of that. And might end up spending more on data.

to be Realistic. if its a Family, Kids watch TV more than you can think. from 3 pm after school till 9 pm at night
that is alot of Streaming Time

Iptv remains the cheapest... Same data I use in my phones will be deployed

Steaming is the new normal. It is gathering momentum, presently whether your job is tied to the survival of dstv is inconsequential.. Look for alternative now while you still can

For more than 2 years I have been consistently subscribing to DSTV, from last year march till last month, I was on price lock on 9k for compact. No doubt I was actually enjoying dstv especially premier league football.

So my subscription expired last week and I checked the new price for compact, it was 15k+. Geskiya I said I can't be subscribing again. The money is too much. Thanks almost 180k per year.

So yesterday, I was at home, was now playing around with my TV apps, what I saw really amazed me.

There are plenty apps that shows children movies, another ones shows action films, though old, but they are interesting. There is an afroland TV that shows Nigerian movies. This afroland shows live France 24 news. There is Plex TV that shows live channels and still have movies too.

Then I discovered that Al Jazeera, channels TV and some other news channels shows live on YouTube. Worst of it all is that, on YouTube there are some personal channels that have full videos on movies both foreign and locals, with very recent cartoons.

Then I said let me test the cast option. Lo and behold, when man city match started, I used a stream app to watch football on my phone then I now casted it to TV. O boy, everything clear.

I watched Man city, Tottenham and Chelsea matches.

When I was leaving the house after Chelsea match, I checked my data, despite connecting it to my TV since morning, I didn't blow up to 4g.

So if I used that my 9k I was using to subscribe to DSTV compact and buy Airtel 22g for 5k, I will be on unlimited streaming till month end.

Watch at you own space.

In addition, some of these documentaries that is been shown on nat geographic gold and wild, discovery channel, investigation ID, there episodes are there on YouTube. All you need is to search for it.

In addition, there is a radio app on the smart TV that brings to you plenty radio channels both home and abroad. What I haven't confirmed is if it's live or pre recorded.

Like I said don't use your reality to gauge others, I and wife work full time. During weekdays, My TV is on at least 9 hours a day, during weekends or holidays, my TV is on for at least 16 - 19 hours a day. All family taking turns to enjoy their programs, and during weekends, My kids have a huge chunk of the time.

On this thread, you have been barking and hounding everyone who dare insinuates that streaming may not augur well for them due to TV hours, especially those with families.

Some of us have uninterrupted power supply, so watching TV does not come with a timetable, especially with adults.

Allow folks weigh their Pros and Cons and decide what works for them. The best you can do is respectfully allay their worries and fears than haranguing them and their opinions.

Your family and your ways is NOT LAW. Stay humble. How much you dey make self wey person no go hear word. Na wao.

Since the day I created this thread till date, I have used 55gb worth of data. This also includes my wife data usage for watching netflix. It will be good to also add that I contacted someone here who set up IPTV for me, so am also watching some very interesting channels on my smartTV.

So my conclusion... If you have smart TV and your family is the type that dont always stay at home, its far cheaper to use data to stream than to pay for cable TV. But if you are always at home and watches TV 247, then cable TV will be better.

Total cost from opening of this thread till date... Airtel 40gb for 5k *2 = 10k.... Though I still have abt 30gb left. Mind you that my wife mostly watch netflix, so even if I paid for cable TV, at least 10gb would have been used by her to watch netflix. Before the increase by DSTV, I was on price lock of 9k on compact. Now compact is 15700. So technically am saving roughly 7k/month.

Now the choice is yours to make.

I have been using the smart TV for a while now. And I stream almost everyday when I am at home with my family. I am currently using ssiptv player and media station x player. These are free to use apps on smart TV. But I go through a lot of stress to search every time I need to watch something. Can someone recommend the best m3u players I can use to stream these playlists? I know about Hot IPTV and SmartOne players but the trial period didn't offer some of the best features I want.
