Honestly, I keep wondering why people hype people who play chess?

Like exactly what's the point of the hype?

In Nigeria today we have chess tournament in the streets and all sorts of chess geniuses and protege

But What really is the benefits of the game or what makes it special compared to our local ludo, ten-ten, suwé or drafts?

I understand that people tend to feel chess is some kind of brain work or brain boosting stuff.

But most chess world best players that we know never go on to become someone remarkable in their career fields. Instead, they will only go on to play the chess game.

So, what's so special about chess exactly because I'm lost here
As a chess player I agree chess is overhyped but so is football, heck football is a 1000 times more overhyped than chess.

Ludo is a game of chance it all depends on how the dice lands...Chess relies much less on luck (although there's luck involved, it usually comes from the mistakes of your opponent rather than pure chance)

Draft is too boring compared to chess... in chess each piece has a unique ability, A pawn can move one step at a time, a bishop can only move diagonally, a knight moves in an L shape, a Queen can move in all directions etc. This makes the game more interesting, more stimulating and more imaginative... (you can imagine yourself as a pawn in a bigger game of chess in life maybe your boss is the king)

I don't believe chess is a sign of intelligence, even Kasparov himself claimed Poker is a better sign of political intelligence than chess.

Kasparov was a legendary Russian chess player who tried to run in an election against Vladimir Putin, he had to flee from the country, his chess skills didn't make him a better politician because he played the wrong game, he played chess when he should have played poker.

But still, chess is an interesting game and to be a master in anything even a game is usually a sign of high intelligence and hours of practice, a good doctor will be a terrible lawyer but that doesn't contradict his intelligence.

Reminderz:
In chess, you win, lose or stalemate. Everything will not always go in your favour... But ludo and card games are simply the game of luck, not chess... Why would I always hope to get a 6 everytime I roll the die..? The outcome sometimes is even dependent on which angle the die is bent more... Ludo is a game of luck not wits, and if you always depend on luck in life, you'll lose because someday, your luck will run out....
Strategic thinking can be applied to a probabilistic outcomes. If you play chess and understand probability, you will have the upper hand again ludo players who don’t play chess even if you have never played ludo before.

And most people who play Ludo are simply math-lazy, they don’t understand probability.

Playing 32 pieces on 64 squares is a game meant for the super intelligent . Not the commoners you'd find in Ludo or other ridiculous games like ayo and checkers

Are you on chess.com or lichess? If yes, what is your username and rating?
I’m rated around 1,600-1,800 on lichess but haven’t played in a while.
Few months after, I find myself playing on chess.com highest rating I achieved was 1,200 (I think they rate differently).

Lichess ratings are inflated for a start (around 1500). I don’t really fancy lichess.

All your different time ratings on Chess.com are below 1000. This is quite low for someone with an Account created 4 years ago. Anyways, I can’t tell for sure why. I started learning chess around last year and my chess.com rating is >1400 and I’m on the 94.9% Percentile.

-u go must anticipate ur opponent moves
-nothing like fairplay.
-u must make sacrifices
-u must be merciless
-u must be disciplined.
-u must be deceptive
-u must stay focused all through ( I don loose game way I get two queens..till now, I nor understand how).

about that mental energy I have read a research topic on why chess players at a grand masters tournament in Russia are seemily losing weight and thousands of calories everyday while just doing no physical work,it was discovered that they burn 6000 calories daily which is 3 times more than what an a average person uses a day,it shows the game tasks the brain to the limits to consume such energy

and to what end?

OK, they've burned more energy but to what end?

I could light fire to a forest but it won't cook my rice better to the extent a small gas cooker would.

The point is not the extent of calories burnt but to what end?

In the end, all they'll ever be good or better act is just the game. No translation of that better or smarter brain into anything meaningful.

And so, are they really smarter or just hyped up?

Chess may not be for you, and that's alright. But calling it pointless because some champions don't become doctors or lawyers is really just a nonsensical point to make. It's like dismissing the entire world of professional sports because athletes aren't all CEOs. Chess is a sport for the mind, one that demands dedication and rewards strategic brilliance. Ludo and the other games you mentioned can't offer you that level of mental focus.

The fact that OP thinks Chess and Ludo can even be remotely compared is beyond hilarious.

Chess are for amateur, go and play GO, then chess will be like tinko tinko, ti ko nko tin ko.

GO is way more advanced, and older than chess, and you will catch a headache trying to make your next move and be ten steps ahead of your opponent.
Ironically, that's were the beauty of chess lies: simplicity, even in depth. GO is an excellent game, emphasizing long term strategy and planning, but realistically, it's not a replacement for chess because its' complexity and steep learning curve make it inaccessible to many, whereas chess is a more inclusive game that can be enjoyed by people from all walks of life.
