Some people argue they wish Willie was more vocal in support of civil rights movement during his time but Willie did his in a different way. He did not like to dabble into politics and stayed away from making public comments about it. One thing we can all agree on is that through his performance on the field, he paved a path and built a strong foundation of inclusion for black and minority sports players in America. Few years ago, I read his book, "24, life stories and lessons from the hey say kid" and Willie did not stray too far from baseball and that was who he was.

Im ok with folks staying in their lane and not dabbling into things they cant handle. No one knows you better than you know yourself and you should not bite off more than you can chew based on other people's recommendations. If you go to jail for speaking out, its your career and freedom on the line, all the folks cheering you on will just continue talking and living their own lives.

All that being said, I can also see the other side of the argument, that as a black male with some influence in that time period, you cant just be enjoying other people's bloody sacrifice and just stick to on the field stuff. Then again, a large portion of the black population didnt do much for civil rights either, so I dont think its fair to single him out just because of success.

Personally, I feel his legacy will always be muted in people's minds for his decisions though.Food for thought for those of us still very far from 90! Im not suggesting go out and protest, but at least have it in the back of your mind you may have to sacrifice something somewhere to pay it forward. I apologize for preaching grin

Nothing I hate more than a phony inauthentic activist (this another non basketball reason why people hate LeNomad)

I respect people like Willie Mays who were not about that life and didn't pretend to be. It's always a bit annoying seeing self righteous folks who didn't even live in those times or had nothing to lose speak on what one should or shouldn't have done

I doubt it. They played better defense as well
Yes but it did feel like the winning teams were moving away from 3pt spamming. Prior to this season 4 of the last 5 title winning teams were average to bad from 3

Was it really the celtics fault though? If you opponents are clueless on defense, you are not in the finals to teach them how to do their job. You take advantage until they solve it. I think thats why the victory is so muted, Dallas didnt put in the effort worthy of a WC champion, so we didnt have an interesting finals. The problem for Dallas is that backcourt will now beleive they never have to change their game, and I see 3 or 4 years of pain for Dallas before they realize they will have to trade one or two of these prima donnas

Btw donlittle25, have you recovered yet? I waited a week to see if I can reopen your trauma. All love from I-45 south! grin

The Thunder will be scarily good this upcoming season. They just signed Caruso for basically nothing whilst retaining all of their picks. All they need now is a bruising centre and an excellent lengthy Power Forward and I'll have them as favourites to make it out of the west.

That will be fans or pundits simply not giving the Celtics credit where it is due.

Going into the finals every mainstream sports station talk show awarded the Mavs the title, Fox and ESPN. It's why they find it so hard to walk back their commentary.

All the stats suggest that the Celtics were a top 10 all time dominant team hiding in plain sight. They had two big wings and a 7-3 center,

There's nothing wrong with the Mavericks backcourt if you ask me. Short of shooting at a historical clip we have to be honest to admit the Mavs didn't have enough to go band for band

What they need is an upgrade on Derrick Jones and a guy like Derrick Lively to expand his game. Maybe a 6th man that can come off the bench and create his own shot. Imagine they had like a Malik Monk off their bench for example

For someone who now identifies with his Indian origin, Kyrie should know better than to disrespect tradition and culture. The day he returned to Boston and stomped on Lucky, he not only infuriated the fans, he inherited bad luck in games against the Celtics.

Kyrie has continuously tried to push narratives about the Boston with the aim of demarketing and discouraging players, particularly free agents from joining the team but somehow, Holiday and Porz have had nothing but spectacular things to say about the team, fan base and City. The City and fans are clearly in his head. Infact, Holiday raved about the fan base yesterday.

For those who know me, I am a big Kyrie supporter and will always be. I have always argued for him and will continue to but he needs to leave Boston alone.
Congrats my brother... Sorry this is coming late...Phone's been bad...Fully well deserved....

After one night of sleeping over it, this is going to be entertaining. All that x-os talk talk, we will get to see how Reddick and LA adjust if and when they get punched in the face. Im never a hater, so I wish Lebron the best still. Who knows, I may be wrong again embarassed

If Oilers complete this comeback it would be mental.

From 3-0 down about to take it to 3-3

Omo series is now tied. The Oilers offense has just exploded over the last 3 games. My goodness, what a series and what a performance by Skinner during this comeback. They won tonight without a McDavid shot on goal.
Re: The NBA Begins by chic2pimp(m): 4:08am On Jun 22, 2024
LOOOOOOOOL.....The Oilers have tied the series. WHAT THE ACTUAL F,#££K?

If the Panthers go on to loose this series, the state of Florida should issue a prohibitive ban to every Player, Staff, the GM and every single member of the Panthers organisation. Heck the Owner should not be spared too.

Had a come back from 3-0 down to win a series ever happened? Make I check because this would be the ultimate collapse if it happens.

Just had a look now and the Oilers are the first team in 78 years to force a game 7 after being 3-0 down in a Finals series. If they loose Game 7, it is definitely the ultimate collapse. A choke job of the highest magnitude.

It was until a certain team decided to loose 3 games on the bounce. Unto Game 7 now.

It was until it isn’t anymore. The Oilers were down 3-0 in a 7 game series but have gone on a 3 game winning streak to now tie the series. The Oilers have perhaps the most talented player in the NHL today and the only thing missing in his cabinet is a Stanley Cup. Monday is game 7 in Florida and it would be wild..

Some massive home cooking. 4 steals per game in like 41 games. Na jazz?

Wait both teams won 3 games in a row. I will need to make out time for the game 7, it is bound to be tense

The league didn't have its own record keepers in that era, so each home team recorded the boxscores for the game. Unlike now where the teams have theirs, plus the nbas guys and also all sports books have multiple people checking to make sure that boxscores are accurate.
As for the 10 steals game, it's not a full game on youtube but a 4 minute highlight reel on nba.com. the title says 10 steals, but after watching it, you will only see 6 steals.
This highlight reel is what prompted the Latvian nba historian to look into the whole 1988 Jordan steals and block stats. He could only find 6 home games and with the Yahoo sports writer as the other watcher, they found 12 steals while the boxscores gave MJ 28.

PS: The Latvian historian has other stories he himself have published about stats juicing, from van excel 25 assist games (he saw at most 17, and in his opinion that is with stretching the definition of what an assist was). Also, the 15-block Shaq game, the tape, showed about 10
Re: The NBA Begins by A40(m): 10:51am On Jun 23, 2024
You know Bronsexuals are desperate when they start bringing up steals from 36 years ago. A Stat that doesn't even influence winning or losing and anyone with a working brain knows this was likely a league wide thing

Anyways warra 5th ring and DPOY for LeNomad grin
