From Halimatu Ayinde

It is with a heavy heart that I announce I will not be part of the Super Falcons squad participating in the upcoming France 2024 Olympics due to a knee injury sustained during practice yesterday . While it deeply saddens me to miss this prestigious tournament, I am incredibly grateful for the love and support I have received from my club, FC Rosengård, and my teammates, which ensured that my operation was a success.

To my fellow Super Falcons, I wish you the best of luck as you represent Nigeria on the global stage. Your hard work and passion will undoubtedly shine through, and I have complete faith in your abilities to achieve great success. I will be cheering for you every step of the way and will be back soon, stronger than ever. 💪

Go Super Falcons!

That would be a wrong idea man…

A like for like replacement is better, Ucheibe and Abiodun can’t do the job alone, what if one of them gets a knock or Carded, they need someone as back up

Remember Randy Waldrum always play with a Double Pivot in Midfield, 1 more Defensive, while the other Covers more ground Box-2-Box..

I will go with REGINA OTU she fits in perfectly as that Combative Midfielder..
I said that because we know Toni is going to be forced to the wings when she can just focus on her midfield duties. So Rinsola will just be the top natural winger on ground. I'm tired of makeshifts. Unless the coach wants to try Alozie upfront. One of the two can fill in the empty slot in the XI but that still means Toni is wings, which i don't like.

Can Regina do the Ayinde as good as Ucheibe and/or Debbie? I don't believe so. Anyways...

Concerning Regina Otu doing the job, She’s very capable and the best option among all the remaining Defensive Minded Midfielders..

Let me recommend just 1 game for you to check her out…

Nigeria vs South Africa (Aisha Buhari Cup), you can also check all their league matches this season..

Yea, you are right. I forgot to add that Rinsola faces stiffer competition. We really needed a striker badly and I think that worked in Maclean's favour.
We needed goals and strikers to score.. perharps that necessitated the gamble to go for McClean. Remember the press were raising questions as to our poor convertion during the qualifies against south Africa and Cameroon

I am not sold on Regina Otu. Every average players have one good game so highlighting one game wouldn't suffice. Amongst snubbed Super Falcons players she's been the one who's had the most opportunity and she hasn't exactly made a case for herself. The fact that Deborah Abiodun who is still in college is preferred ahead of her is enough indictment. Debbie didn't need too many games to make a case for herself. The only reason I mentioned her is because she literally the only option we have in midfield except Randy choses to go for another position.

This is somewhat similar to how I feel about MacLeans even though I hope she proves me wrong

If that's the example, I'm not convinced. Because if indeed she was the Ayinde type, she would have been on and given even more opportunities even before we saw Debbie come into the team. I think she was at wafcon or so(I don't remember clearly).

Another aspect worrying me is the connecting figure between defense and attack. None of the two pivots right now does it so clean and sleek. And i doubt Otu can.

Make Mercy Idoko sha dey prepare. She'll soon be in the setup in coming months. If to say Sulola don rep us now, na her i go pick instantly for replacement.

Who replaces her now? Cause among the alternatives we don’t have any Defensive Midfielder in there, I believe the window for changes is still open…!

Randy need to get a Defensive Midfielder not bringing in any of the alternatives, Abiodun and Ucheibe can’t do the job alone, they need supports..

Regina Otu??
No please. We can do with Ucheibe and Abiodun there. Let’s give her spot to an attacking midfielder or Rinsola.
Re: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by mostob(m): 8:16pm On Jul 04, 2024
On Regina Otu.

I'll just say you all should take it easy on her. The reason why she has not won a spot on the team is due to the fact that the like of Ucheibe, Ayinde and Abiodun are ahead of her. Calling up 4 DMs doesn't exactly make sense. And let me add the fact that our coach rarely gives a new player the required chance to show what she has got. It took an injury (right?) for him to play Ucheibe. By now, we should have had Maureen Umeh in the squad especially as we are lacking in the defensive position. He would rather have Ashleigh at LB instead of Payne. Macleans and Rinsola are other examples.

So until a player comes in and play reasonable minutes, I don't think we should write her off.
Re: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by mostob(m): 8:19pm On Jul 04, 2024
On who to replace Ayinde, I would still go for Otu or another CB. I don't think Demehin is fit and in critical case, Ucheibe will have to move to CB leaving Deborah as the only DM.

With Otu, we would be able to move Ucheibe to CB without releasing having a porous midfield. And with another CB, Ucheibe stays in midfield.

Adding another attacker will unbalance the team.

I bet you they weren’t rating Ayinde in the past until this last World Cup performance, I remember how Okobi used to say she will always want to play with Ayinde behind her because she does a lot of work..

Ayinde is calm, her coolness and how she handles pressure in the midfield will be miss, Ucheibe and Abiodun will have a tough task to be sincere especially the aspect of experience even though they’re Young and Energetic..!

Ayinde does the marking job neatly than the other two but again we have to settle with them..

NIL isn't necessarily lucrative for all athletes though. Debbie not also being American and not having the necessary star power to leverage on ours her at a disadvantage to land personal deals. If she's patient however, she should get enough to see her through her college program. On how long she had left? She got announced last year so it really does depend on her. If she takes summer classes then she can finish her program in 3 years. That's what Kiki Iriafen that enabled her finish her engineering program in 3 years with Stanford.
...I know N.I.L is not the same for all athletes and she not being American also might be a disadvantage, however, at all at all, she gets to send some coins home and the pressure might not be as bad as not having anything, also if she has a good Olympics, that would also help her profile better.

Now you get the point they ain’t getting, there was no way Randy will give chance to another when he already had 3 trusted allies, it was going to be difficult except there’s an unavailability of any of them..

I have followed Regina games up she’s good and capable enough..

In fact u av really summarize her style of play …she’s just too calm on d ball and her tackles are too neat, sometimes I jealous y she didn’t come as a man …she’s an intelligent player

Dt Abiodun is just hype and gra gra ,her weakness shows a lot when she’s paired with dt benfica lady or any oda person aside Halimat

She has a lot to learn ,and for that benfica lady, she is strong on d ball but less technical

There is dis other lady dt plays with calmness like dt during u-20 days, but I was told she got married ,dt girl too na baller;igbinovia Abi wetin b her name (she’s upright in stature and moves like Mikel)…good passer of d ball and also calm .

I acknowledged the at all at all. Lol. Sadly the Olympics may not help boost her NIL profile like that. She doesn't have the social clout to meet the KPIs that brands need. What a great Olympics outing may do for her is helping get her to a better college team with significant NIL deals. That again may be a challenging decision seeing it will mean ditching her benefactor.

The best thing is just to finish college as fast as possible so she can go pro.

Right now what the team needs is a Center Back or a Defensive Midfielder to get balance..

You seem to have gotten the timeline wrong.

Regina is 27 years old. Apart from Ayinde she had the most chance to cement a place in the team ahead of Christy and Debbie which is the point I'm making. Your position makes it sound like she came after them when in truth they met her there.

This is no knock on her and like I said she's out best bet as it is.

She had the most chance? How many caps does she have? You can't expect her to cement a place when she is not getting called up now. There are lots of talented players out there that are not getting called and may not get any call till they retired. Till date, if Rita Chikwelu had not played badly in that SA match, Ucheibe might be somewhere still praying for call up.
