Yes! The molue song was done by the group "Too Low For Zero". Now I have to remember who sang "run jerry, run jerry, run, run, run".

kai! The mention of 'tandi guarana' took me back to the good old days when I would feign illness so that I would be exempt from going to church an stay back home to watch sunday rendezvous.

Does anyone remember the presenter's name?

There were three presenters.

Skid Ikemefuna: if I remember correctly, he was the first presenter. He released an album under the name "Mc Skiddo". He later became a pastor. He is now an executive with the Silverbird Group

Mustapha Amego: To me he was the best presenter that the show ever had. He also released an album.

Sylva (sp) Oforgu: he later had his own show on NTA Channel 10.

I wanted to get a recent pic of skid (the executive), but I couldn't, instead I got their album covers.

1) Skidd Ikemefuna (Mc Skiddo)

2) Mustapha Amego

There was this presenter that wore glasses. The guy is late now. Was that Mustapha?

His favourite line was "hit me hit me"

Nitel. In 1985 the Post & Telecoms Department (P&T) was split into the Nigerian Telecommunications Limited (Nitel) and the Nigerian Posts Limited (Nipost).

I remember having to wait for "dial tone" before I can make a call. In the afternoon on a weekday you might have to wait for up to 45 minutes before you get dial tone. On a saturday or sunday morning you'd get dial tone immediately.

The area codes:

Ikoyi = 68
Victoria Island = 61
Festac = 88
Ikeja = 9* (I think it was 97)
Lagos Island = 62
Etc.

You had to call the operator first before you could make an out of state call. Sometimes you had to book a call, eg I want to call someone in the US (or Ghana, or Jos, or Enugu). I'd call the operator, give her the name and number of the person I want to call and she would tell me when to expect the call (eg, an hour later). An hour later the operator would call the US, make the connection, call me and connect me to the person in the US.

Special numbers (my favourite numbers).

199 = Emergency (fire, ambulance or police)

198 = Ring back (you call the number, wait for the tone and replace the receiver when you hear the tone. Your phone would ring back at you).

19* = Speaking clock.

I remember when we had the Nitel phone booths (coin boxes). Vandals used to break into the boxes to steal the coins.

A Nitel man was working at Odunlami (the national switching centre on Lagos Island) late at night. One of his former colleagues who had retired years ago suddenly appeared in front of him.

Nitel man: Ol' boy wetin you do here (offering his hand for a handshake).

His face became acquainted with the former colleague's hand. It was a massive slap.

Former colleague: "Everybody put up your hands and stop what you are doing!"

It was then that the nitel man realised that his former colleague was dressed in military fatigues. This was a coup!

Now you've got me confused. Mustapha was the one who wore glasses, but if I remember correctly, Skidd was the one who had the catch phrase "hit me, hit me".

Neither of them is late. Skidd is an executive at Silverbird, while Mustapha Amego works at National Geographic/Discovery Channel.

This next section reminds me of a time when things were cheaper. Coca Cola @ 10 kobo, then over the years it went up to 50 kobo. How much is it now?

Below 10 kobo

^ How many 10k pieces did I nick from my dad's kolokolo? ( the little compartemnt where you keep coins in a car, I don't know what it's called, that what my dad called it and that what I call it to date). He couldn't tell but stealing coins from my mum was another matter entirely, the woman na eagle eyes, watching everything. There was a time I was convinced my mum had special powers.

The kolokolo is either the glove compartment or the ashtray (I suspect it's the ashtray).
