odizeey:Yep, that is what we want. I just like what i am currently seeing from the team sha, if he can sign a striker it will be good for us... |

TrebleChamp:Damn, I thought I'd come into this thread and see lamentations without anyone pointing out the obvious. You're absolutely right. You can clearly see the way we want to play. The pressing, short passes, the build up from the back. It's so clear. Though it might look a bit laborious now, it's still early days. We really should've won but luck wasn't on our side. We'll lose some games like this, this season. It's expected. The target is top 4. |
| Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by ChristoBam: 1:17am On Aug 25, 2024 |
Maino should also stop thinking he can beat 2 players in a dangerous position every single time. |
| Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by afrodoc2: 2:16am On Aug 25, 2024 |
TrebleChamp:We keep the ball better but we are still not doing enough in terms of creating quality cancer and cutting open the opposition. We are also still very slow and ponderous when trying to play out from the back. I think most of the improvement has come off the ball in terms of our pressing, being compact, and not allowing the opponents to pepper our goal with shots. However if he does not rotate adequately the pressing style will soon lead to accumulation of injuries. ETH has not done enough in terms of implementing a good attacking playing style in his time here, and this is partly because he wasted the whole of last season, and probably partly because he is just not that good of a coach. |
| Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by afrodoc2: 5:06am On Aug 25, 2024 |
By not creating and scoring enough goals we are asking our defense to be perfect in every game, which is not realistic. The improved pressing is good, but we need more structure on the ball as well. Onana and Maguire caressing the ball for extended periods before passing it is disgusting to watch. And our midfielders Case and Mainoo have to do more to make themselves available for the ball and create angles and options for the backline to pass to them. |

afrodoc2:The on the ball structure is not as bad you paint it. Moves usually fell apart even the ball got to our wingers, who I keep saying need to improve the most Onana holding onto the ball is to allow potential receivers assume good positions and also bait pressing attackers to leave gaps in the opponent’s structure. The less said about Maguire, the better |
| Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by afrodoc2: 8:30am On Aug 25, 2024 |
maik99:What did i say that is not true? 1) We are not creating enough clear-cut chances. 2) Onana and Maguire caress the ball for too long. P.S I know why Onana caresses the ball but often times the result is not what we want. He caresses the ball and draws pressure, but our defenders and midfielders are often not in the proper positions to exploit the gaps created. If the coach does not set them up properly the caressing of ball will be for nothing. Maguire just caresses the ball for caressing sake even when there are obvious passing options. * ETH is not coaching them well enough on the positions to take and the angles to create when building up from the back. I have seen the way City, Assanal, Spurs, Brighton etc do it, and we are not doing it as effectively. We should be better after a 3rd pre-season. |

TrebleChamp:We keep the ball on in our half of the pitch. Once we get to the midfield and attacking zone, our possession game is very poor. |

Oasis007:....let me add more bites to the highlight; what do I mean by clear Identity?! Just look at Brighton, from Potter to De Zerbi and to the new Manager, nothing actually change. They have got a working system, clear style of play and easier to get a manager that fits the system. Man United have moved from no-tactics Moyes to boring tikitaka of LVG to just win tactic of Mou to God why tactic of OGS and finally to trust the process tactic of Eth. I could see we are trying to build something under INEOS, hence I choose to relax and see how it will pan out. I know Eth won't be long here and his Heir is at the Club already. So gonna be calm and hope they get it right this season. Get me top 4 and atleast a trophy - datsall. |

afrodoc2:Well Doc given our obvious problem with playing out the back in previous seasons I’ll say playing out the back was the least of our problems yesterday. We evaded Brighton’s press too many times. Too many. What we did with the ball from the midfield to the final third is where I see several issues Our play out from the back is not perfect yet but there’s marked improvement |

It appears a lot here are in favour of ETH being sacked and RVN being appointed, abi? 😂😂😂 |
| Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by Jokerman(m): 10:03am On Aug 25, 2024 |
Next game vs Liverpool is key for Erik ten Hag. Spending €270M on (ex) Ajax players and losing two games in a row while not being able to produce good football would be an embarrassment. Especially when the opponents manager (Slot) has only been there for 3 official games. |
| Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by TrebleChamp(m): 10:04am On Aug 25, 2024 |
afrodoc2:Which makes me wonder why we are not getting a proper 9, RVN should help us convince the board to sign a good cheap reliable Striker before the window closes... |

I look at how Bruno plays and I ask myself what is special about this guy and why is the coach starting him? Afrodoc2, Treblechamp, jokerman, oasis007, maik99, MRTA7, odizeey, patrickmuf, christobam |

TrebleChamp:Pls tell me how onana is a ball playing keeper because I don't know what he is playing. He keeps delaying the ball and putting the defence under pressure |
| Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by afrodoc2: 1:46pm On Aug 25, 2024 |
maik99:I did not say it was our only problem. I also said we struggle to create clear cut chances which is not directly linked to playing out from the back (although they are related in an indirect way). I just highlighted playing out from the back because it is one of the easier things to address on the training pitch. If after 3 seasons we are still doing it in such a hit and miss fashion, then what can we expect in terms of the more difficult issues like breaking down a low block and creating plethora of chances. I expect more fluidity in our passing and off the ball movement. Another recurring problem is ETH's inability to either select the right players or make the right subs. With the way Brighton plays that suicidal high line anybody with even basic football knowledge should have known that False 9 was not the way to go. Before the match i warned that the False 9 will soon lazzident, and it did. Evan Rashford down the middle would have worked better than the Bruno/Mount combination. |
| Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by maik99(m): 2:16pm On Aug 25, 2024 |
afrodoc2:Bruno / Mount helped press Brighton and tbh to good effect esp. in the first half. I remember we won the ball high and in dangerous positions. But I have said this too many times I probably now sound like a broken record, our lack of cohesive play upfront is going to be the end of us I don’t know what eth was thinking with the subs tho. Bruno off for ghostominay to play as a number 10 when it was obvious Kobbie and case were tired. Brighton just jejely brought on Adingra, Baleba and Enciso and it was obvious we were going to concede. Also subbing Maguire for MDL also made zero sense at that point. You are either bringing on a defender as an extra defender or you leave the ones that started I’m frustrated too |
| Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by maik99(m): 2:20pm On Aug 25, 2024 |
afrodoc2:With that high line conventionally united should have had a feast. Even on our worst days we love high lines. I don’t see how playing a striker especially if it’s Rashford makes a difference. We just needed the attackers running in behind to time their runs and stay onside and for those passing to release the ball timeously. We did neither yesterday despite several opportunities. Again, lack of cohesion in the final third |
