A US-made Ukrainian F-16 jet was destroyed in a crash on Monday, the Wall Street Journal reported citing a U.S. official.

The official said it looked like the incident had not been caused by enemy fire and was likely the result of pilot error.

Ukraine's air force did not immediately respond to a request for comment about the report.

A top Ukrainian pilot was killed when a US-made F-16 fighter jet crashed on Monday, a Ukrainian Defence Forces source told CNN.

The Ukrainian Defence Forces do not believe pilot error was behind the incident, the source added.

The pilot, Oleksiy Mes known as “Moonfish,” was killed in the crash while “repelling the biggest ever aerial attack” by Russia against Ukraine, said the source, adding that the pilot was buried on Thursday.

The pilot was Ukrainian.
The US reports more crashes because this country has more flights in a day or two than Nigeria has in a year. That in itself increases the probability.
On average, there are approximately 45,000 flights per day with at least 5,000 aircraft in the air at any given moment.
