chrisley024:I'm not sure what Mctom is supposed to do in this situation? The same mctom that always hide behind players? He will most likely be getting ready to run into the LFC 18 |

eph12:Only the third goal is a close down tho , no? Easy to praise Slot for having a gameplan when we were making mistakes all over the place |
| Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by chrisley024(m): 2:37pm On Sep 03, 2024 |
eph12:you're right. My point is about his tactics, where most of the players go forward includng CM which suits McTom well, instead of transitioning forward as a team. One of the major issues of this is lack of passing options. |

Jamiuokolaa:Ugarte is no Carrick or Rodri plus Kante, which is what the tactic probably demands; so I'm not expecting much ![]() |
| Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by eph12(m): 4:05pm On Sep 03, 2024 |
maik99:Maybe I have forgotten how the first goal happened. I remember Case had to pass and he chose to pass forward, which was intercepted. I have not praised Slot gameplan. I only mentioned it because he spoke about it and we saw it happen. What can you say about your ETH's game plan? |
| Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by eph12(m): 4:07pm On Sep 03, 2024 |
chrisley024:Its confusing. Does he want to build play from the back or he wants to play quick transition football? |
| Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by MRTA7: 4:53pm On Sep 03, 2024 |
eph12:He wants to build from the back but with his fullbacks high and wide. Problem is those teams who build from the back invert their full backs into midfield. Eth wants his to remain high and wide to help outnumber the other teams defence. The problem is that is a terrible idea and for it to work you need the best press resistant ball carrier to pickup the ball from the defence and get it forward to either wide areas or progress it and pass it through the lines. Casemiro is the opposite of such ball carrier. Its the reason he wants Frenkie so much. |
| Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by chrisley024(m): 5:14pm On Sep 03, 2024 |
MRTA7:in the build-up yes, unfortunately when the ball is lost, even FDJ will, he ain't Kante, if that'd be enough, to snuff out the opposition attack. He already tried this last season and seen how abysmal it was. We're more compact against City, like what happened ![]() |

eph12:See as the round Mainoo like theif wey dem wan do am jungle justice ![]() I was one of those who felt Mainoo was at fault for the 3rd goal but after seeing that pix, omorr, I no blame am one bit. No even valid support near him at all. Na only elite midfielder fit escape for that situation. |
| Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by Jamiuokolaa: 5:34pm On Sep 03, 2024 |
Jodera:His decision making in scenarios like that would determine to a reasonable extent, the heights he would attain in his career... There would always be situations like that and as a controlling midfielder, being press resistant is an attribute that cannot be overemphasized. What happened to "drawing a foul"? Are we saying there was no "safe pass" available? |
| Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by Jodera: 5:44pm On Sep 03, 2024 |
Jamiuokolaa:We seem to forget that he's 19 playing DM who just start playing at top level just half a season ago. System is suppose to help players(esp of his age) and Mainoo wasn't helped there at all. I won't judge Mainoo on this cos he hasn't got that experience that comes with more game time If Eth wants to play out from the back and transition to front, then he needs his midfielders to be close to one another and move in tandem. This structure from that picture will expose your midfieders more tbh |
| Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by eph12(m): 5:58pm On Sep 03, 2024 |
MRTA7:From the very little I know, the midfielders have to play close to each other at all times. I don't think Frenkie or any midfielder will be happy to play like this |
| Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by eph12(m): 6:02pm On Sep 03, 2024 |
Jodera:I will even say he is at fault, but that system is criminal and will always have punishable errors. Most teams are aware of this already. ETH has continued to play with a big hole in his midfield |
| Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by eph12(m): 6:03pm On Sep 03, 2024 |
Jamiuokolaa:At 19 years old, in a rubbish team and midfield? You go need wake up o |
| Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by MRTA7: 6:26pm On Sep 03, 2024 |
Casemiro is being hammered because he made mistakes but ETH is the one who deserves to be hammered. |
| Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by maik99(m): 6:30pm On Sep 03, 2024 |
eph12:First goal was a wrong pass Second goal was Case bundled off the ball like a sack of sawdust, from behind The third goal is the one that can be really called a close down from pressing Slot can go on and on about a gameplan but that game was open until Casemiro decided to gift two whole goals. Casemiro aside we were constantly in a 4 vs 2 when Liverpool won the ball higher up the pitch. We also had opportunities to and even did outnumber them like that a few times but did Bleep all with it |

eph12: Jodera:I am not disputing the fact that there are tactical gaps that need to be closed by the manager. However, we still cannot dispute the fact that a midfield controller needs to be press-resistant.. We keep on talking about Mainoo's age while we deliberately ignore the fact that he is a senior player with the 3 Lions already. I am not sure he would be in the team if he was synonymous with getting dispossessed every now and then thereby gifting the opposition with Goal scoring opportunities. He cannot be praised for being more mature than his age, then when he makes mistakes that should be pointed out and corrected to further aid and fastrack his development, we remember he is only 19 years old. Like I said earlier, his decision making in scenarios like that would determine wether he would be compared to the likes of Xavi, Scholes etc or wether na them Blessing Kaku or Christian Obodo calibre 5 years for now.... |
| Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by eph12(m): 6:55pm On Sep 03, 2024 |
maik99:One wrong pass from Case and it was how many against how many? |
| Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by eph12(m): 6:57pm On Sep 03, 2024 |
Jamiuokolaa:Please just rate him as Blessing Kaku already |
| Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by Jodera: 8:55pm On Sep 03, 2024 |
eph12:Most teams will continue to capitalize on that system until all these players regress. There's a reason most players regress under Ten Haag and it's because of system like this. Imagine telling Mainoo to be beating press like this 10 times in a match, how do you expect him not to overthink things? Ahh |
| Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by Jodera: 9:07pm On Sep 03, 2024 |
Jamiuokolaa:That's the issue and it's because of the system. Imagine Mainoo being pressed like 10 times in a match, it's either he always passes back or he looks to beat press(which he's expected to do). How many times will he do that without being caught out once or twice? Even the England setup sef doesn't alienate players like this (as scrap as Southgate was). Mainoo na better player but make this system no go turn am to Blessing Kaku oo. |
| Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by Jamiuokolaa: 9:11pm On Sep 03, 2024*. Modified: 1:27am On Sep 04, 2024 |
Jodera:But it was still this same bad system that gave Mainoo his breakthrough with the 3 Lions...no? If he was losing possession carelessly every match day last season, Southgate for invite am? If player make mistake, e better make e dey find as e go take improve instead of trying to play the victim's card. A controlling midfielder who is looking to make a name for himself in the sport needs to be press resistant - it's simply unacceptable to be culpable for his team conceding, all because "nobody showed up for a pass" |

[quote author=patrickmuf post=131844733] Taylor's positioning was bad for the first and second goal we conceded. I didn't even notice this during the game... |
| Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by afrodoc2: 7:16am On Sep 04, 2024 |
patrickmuf:Bad positioning, but then again, those EPL referees are generally incompetent. The blame though lies on the players. |

afrodoc2:True that. |
| Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by Mrviktor(m): 8:23am On Sep 04, 2024 |
chrisley024:Case was the most important player on that pitch for us according to how I could see the tactical setup.. I feel the responsibility was too much and there was no plan B.. If u watch the game back .u would see that most times in transition he starts the build up from the back.. We turn into a back 3 of licha...case and delight.. Dalot and mazeaoui are always high up as almost wingers.. Mainoo as well.. Which was why when he lost the ball for the first goal .there was no backup.. Licha had to press Salah.. Salah crossed . Goal Thinking urgate would understand the case role in 2-3 weeks.. would be crazy.. At least 2 months before he can fit that style. Unless and unless Tengah isn't stubborn and decides to play a different style.. |

Meanwhile. Onana should just retire. Goalkeeping is not his calling. ![]() His positioning for that Salah goal is the latest wonder of the world. |

afrodoc2:Onana is a big mistake. Can't believe I did want him at United after watching him at the UCL final for Inter Milan. Dude was everything we needed as a ball playing GK then, and most of us ain't much care about his positioning or ball saving ability. Ball playing skill, we no see again. Positioning is damn zero and cho cho cho no dey tire him. |
