Is It Right For The Man To Do The Buying Of Cooking Things In The Market? by EmekaBlue(op):
Please forgive my grammatical errors.

I would like to hear/read your take on this topic.Recently I noticed some of my married male friends are the ones who go to buy things in the market for the kitchen.

Please don't call me a woman wrapper or a simp. I really don't fancy men going to the market to buy food stuff even to the extent of buying leaves and those local things for soup. Right from time I'm not a kitchen person so maybe this is a reason but I don't think it's nice to take over that woman's department because you feel she might be adding more money or you just want to keep account of your expenditure... If she wants to chop there abeg leave her and maybe try only to minimize her gains by letting her know you have idea of the prices but not carrying your masculine body to the market to be pricing ugwu leaves ogbono and kpomo.

Anybody amongs them that is available can do it, it's a way of helping your family. i do it for my family. Mostly when I'm close to the market i just enter the market instead of asking someone far from market at that moment to start coming.

It is right sha. It very, very right, and it is the order of things. By nature and culture.

For example, pansophist excels in that department. He does it diligently and happily.

My only concern and duty is with the other room.

So, yes, the man cooks; the woman satisfies him sexually, and the home is peaceful and healthy. Any other arrangement different from this is a recipe for disaster.

Oga there's nothing wrong in doing that especially if she doesn't complain....

I'm a good cook, I prefer cooking than eating out... If I have been doing this myself now that I'm single, nothing will stop me when I finally get married, except I have a busy schedule

Lol, I don't see it as big deal.

Growing up, my father has ALWAYS been the one going to the market for all heavy shopping. My mother only goes for petty market runs (when she's chanced).

It is really not a big deal especially if the couple understand the dynamics of their relationship.

It isn't right or wrong. It depends on what model and arrangement works best for the family. It has been happening in some homes, but since you said it is recent, I guess it is deliberate to have these men see firsthand how expensive things are.

Sometimes men think you are exaggerating or stealing money. That could have worked Pre-Buhari, but not in 2024. Tell them to follow you and they will refuse. They rather stay home and scold you for not using 5k to cook in a week. Wives have advised themselves to allow men go to the market small. So they can understand women are not lying. Please let your friends do the market run.

When the missus was pregnant I bought a lot stuff in the market.

I dont do market runs today, but I can tell the best stores place to buy any household items from toilet roll to soap to toothpaste to detergent

I buy practically all the home items.

Also the store sold noodles and semovita and cooking oil and Maggi and seasoning.

I don't like market because they will always try to rip me off

All wives should find means to get their husbands to do it, at least once a month.

Make them know how the price of things be.
Some men go drop 5-10k and expect to woman to cook with it for two days.

I don't understand some of my fellow Nigeria men.
Food wey you go follow chop!
But it's okay to buy it if you live with your friend but not for the woman you love, your wife or the mother of your kids.
You wonder why your relationship no dey work na because you no dey put effort.
