In 1925, a stray dog almost ignited a war between Greece and Bulgaria. It began when a Greek soldier crossed the border into Bulgaria to retrieve his dog, only to be shot and killed by Bulgarian guards. Outraged, Greece sent troops into Bulgaria, and skirmishes broke out.

The world watched nervously, fearing a wider conflict. With tensions high, the League of Nations intervened, brokering a ceasefire and preventing a full-scale war. Bulgaria agreed to pay reparations, and the Greek troops withdrew.

This bizarre event, known as the "War of the Stray Dog," shows how quickly minor incidents can escalate into international crises.
