When you meet a lady saying "men are scum", "I hate men"... Please do not rush to act as Mr. "Healer" or Mr. Encouragement, especially if you have soft spot for such lady. Some guys may want to act nice, good, loving etc, probably to prove that they are better in good treatment than the EX of the lady.
When a lady is wounded or heartbroken, be smart and careful as your love, attention, care, encouragement, emotions etc, may just be used by her to heal and bounce back. Now, if she heals completely and her toxic EX who was probably a sex freak or a bad boy comes back begging, she may go back as she may be okay with his drama.
This may apply to guys too.

"Men are scum" should be the ULTIMATE signal for any sensible man to VANISH like Nigerian Police at the sight of an armed robbery.

If you stay with a woman who thinks men are scum, even as a friend, you will BECOME scum.

She will dump all her HATRED for men on you. If you resist or fight back, she'll point to your resistance as irrefutable PROOF that men are indeed scum.

NEVER go into any relationship where you need to heal the lady first. Her healing is NONE of your business.

DON'T try to heal anybody. Don't even PRETEND to heal anybody. You are NOT Pastor Chris.

If you must go into any relationship, find someone who is not JADED and BROKEN. Someone who have their shit together. That is why men are advised to ONLY consider young women for relationships.

I think it goes both ways, as already mentioned by the op.

They use you and your niceness to heal, then realize how boring you are and start missing their ex.
The so-called gold digging or cheating, disrespectful ex.
