Hello Nairalanders,

I need your advice. So I'm a lady and when I wanted to get my Lexus in 2021, I did extensive research on a honest mechanic as I have been on Nairaland since 2012. I found a mechy here on Nairaland. A lovely human being. I have recently learnt that he is no more. I don cry tire because this man made my life so easy. He has gone to a better place.


I never give my car to anyone but him. He would always confirm what was intact or needed replacement.

I couldnt get his services in March and went to a mechanic in Magodo, that was the only time my car spent time in another autoshop.

This July, I went to my former Honest Mechy's Garage as his wife said it was fine but he was incapacitated then, his boys attended to me. I noticed that his boys took over 7 hours to fix brake pads and servicing. I had many lights on my dashboard before taking it to them. When I got the car back, the lights had gone but they all came back the next day. (Vsc, Afs, check engine, skid or so and more).


Fast forward to this September, the legs of the car was making some noises and the check engine light still there, took it to my estate mechanic, that one changed shock absorber but the noise persisted. Took it back to him, he said it was linkage, he changed it. Then said I should do wheel alignment but I decided to go back to the Magodo mechy.

Yesterday, the Magodo mech said it was my car hub and a dispense error didnt let him fix it as he didnt see my payment. When I went to pick the car, this Magodo one told me my CATALYST WAS MISSING that it had recently been removed and the person that did it was such an expert that they used mud and sand to cover up the bolts.

I am miffed Oloun. I am so pissed because I pay for what these men demand.

So now, i'm at a diagnostics center to know the full details of errors and absence of parts.

Those who have touched the car after my Mechanic was busy then indisposed:

1. MARCH 2024 - Magodo Mechanic : Fixed gasket, Problem with water in radiator going down and touched engine. Spent time with the car.

2. JULY 2024 - Dearly departed mechanic's boys (: Spent 7 hours for servicing and brake pads) Their boss would do just about 4 hours for more extensive work and the car would be like new.

3. SEPTEMBER 2024 - Estate mechanic fixed shock absorber and linkage because of car leg noises but no real solution. Car leg is still releasing albums.

4. SEPTEMBER 2024- Magodo Mechanic again - Tried to fix car leg and noticed Catalyst has been stolen. Insists it is a recent job and I need to take quick action.

4. PANEL BEATER - This one touches up my car whenever there is body work issue or minor stuff. He does not do much but I hear that they are culpable as well. He is presently with me at the diagnostic shop and got quite a bit defensive after I mentioned problems with the car and he is among the infamous 4 people that I have left the car with. He also said the catalyst is still intact as the bolts look old. I dont believe him.


I am not good at suspecting people, I hate it because I myself am very trustworthy and always pray to God that I only encounter similar people but it is what it is. I am tired. It may be difficult to ascertain who the culprit could be from all the stupid love letter I have written here.

I will follow up with result from the diagnostics but please help me with what you think may have happened.

The unfortunate act was committed between March and September and these are the only people I have allowed to touch the car, funny enough to avoid issues like this.

Please help as one cannot be thinking of buying car in this economy. I pay these mechys what they ask, I dont even price thinking God will use them. I have spent soooo much and still spending as we speak.

Your fear is not complete nah. They removed the Catalyst how?

1. what code is showing they removed the catalyst

2. did they weld a straight pipe to replace the catalyst?

3. what sign did he see that he was sure they removed the vehicle catalyst.

They used mud and sand to cover bolt, nah that be the reason they removed catalyst? the mechanic nah clown

I will update diagnostics now. They are rounding up. Everything is just messed up but the panel beater has sat down with me all one hour plus at the diagnostics center. He offered. Dont even know who to trust in this Lagos anymore.

Thing is one can hardly sit with this guys, there is work, there are other things to run around for. Outside this, their shops are hardly designed for someone to even sit in and not feel worn out. Please guys, just help recommend a honest Lexus mechanic as well. This thing is beginning to affect my head as I juet checked current prices of the car. Hepp me!

Rule one,never leave your vehicle with mechanic in their workshop and go away.the devil will tempt dem to do and undo.
It's better to park it in your house and get dem to do home service to be safe.
Pilfering of parts will be minimal.
Maybe you should have come here to request for decent mechanics.you will definitely get good referrals.
Get it scanned and post codes here.
Be careful before those ruthless mechanics open office on your head.

I still saw a video of him he sent a while back this morning. Think about him everyday. I cannot believe that he was even impactful in my life and I just didnt realise it. Omo, we can never find a honest human being like Gazzuzz.

Rule one,never leave your vehicle with mechanic in their workshop and go away.the devil will tempt dem to do and undo.
It's better to park it in your house and get dem to do home service to be safe.
Pilfering of parts will be minimal.
Maybe you should have come here to request for decent mechanics.you will definitely get good referrals.
Get it scanned and post codes here.

I still cant say I will be sitting down in mechanic's shop, it is almost impossible for me. I will be letting them know from now on that I will be scanning my car before and after repair. I am presently looking for a good and decent mechanic like you suggested. It's almost a difficult thing in this Nigeria.

UPDATE: My car was scanned and prodded at Kojo Motors for almost 2 hours as seen in the attached picture. The report came back that my 3 catalysts are intact! Infact, I was shocked. Why would the Magodo mechanic then emphatically say that the middle catalyst was missing? The Panel beater said "I told you so!". So, my stance moving forward is to be scanning car like it is pregnant every single time it goes to a mechanic I am still trying to find. A part of me wants to do another car assessment because I still dont get why that Magodo mechanic made such an uproar incessantly about missing catalyst. Thank God the money I paid for a repair which he didnt do reversed.

The only way to knowbis to detach the exhaust pupes under neath passe ger side and front of engine to check.......that's all

simple you will ask the price to replace and he did bill you to use the money flex or pay children school fees

i told you b4 that the reasons he gave for catalyst removal is nonsense. Good mechanics are plenty all over Nigeria especially kazeems i normally use. Yes they may over bill me for work and buying parts but they do a good job and as a reference i always demand the handover of replacement parts, if i like i may then hand it over to them to do whatever but anything you receive money for, you must show me before fixing it.

Sorry about this,catalyst theft is in different level in mechanic workshops a job that require car to stay overnite in workshop if not a proper workshop they will tampered with it.Kindly follow everyone that involves in the car repairs ,the truth will come out.Funny part is that they might put yeye net to obstruct the engine breathing.

At least no catalyst code thank God
All this code is for thermostat need to be replace and some suspension issue.

If you want your peace, you must watch while your car is being worked on. Make that "sacrifice".
