Edo Governor-elect: A Case Study In The Devaluation Of Educational Excellence. by Sam8891(op): 3:15am On Oct 01, 2024
The recently elected governor's secondary school results are making the rounds, and it reads more like a punchline than a political resume. With grades like E8 in Government, D7 in Commerce, and D7 in English, one can’t help but wonder: is this the academic yardstick for leadership now? The real concern isn’t his academic struggles, but the moral message these results send to young students.
In a society that constantly preaches the value of education, what example is being set when someone with subpar grades ascends to one of the highest offices in the state? Why should a high school student slog through night-after-night of studying when an E8 in Government can still lead to governing an entire state?
The message this sends is simple: academic excellence is optional. Sure, understanding Government or Economics is helpful—but clearly not mandatory. It’s as if we’re saying, “Work hard... or don’t. Either way, you’ll be just fine, and maybe even end up a governor.”
Let’s not forget the irony. C5 in Mathematics? Maybe he can use his average math skills to calculate how many students will stop caring about their studies, now that they know D7s and E8s can lead to political power. But here’s the kicker: If our future leaders keep sporting grades like this, who’s going to handle the economy? I’m guessing it won’t be the student striving for an A in Economics—they’ll be too busy contemplating why they bothered.
In short, if the governor-elect is the new role model for success, why should students bother trying to be their best? The D7s and F9s of today may just be the governors of tomorrow.

Politicians a d their politics kwa?

But the guy satisfied the requirements. They school certificate pass or fail no specified.

I don't trust politicians anyway. A fellow like that was tipped for Minister of Health under Obasanjo, some people came up with stories that he didn't have MBBS. While the distraction was going on, Professor Lambo was appointed. The embattled fellow bagged his MBBS from Unilag.

Okpebholo has been declared winner of the election. The same was the case of Fayose in Ekiti. He , with his faults, performed better than Fayemi with his PhD.

Time will unfold his managerial skills not certificate.

In all you have said, I can only deduce one thing. And that is a school is a scam. If that's not what you are saying I will encourage you to read the post again.

We don’t have to let it seem like education is a curse in Nigeria,if he didn’t meet the requirement for election as a governor then it’s another thing, many professors will jump at an appointment as his SA.you have to explain why many of our professors are employees and not employers too.he graduated at the university and even obtained a masters degree,it could either be that the purported result met the requirement then or he has another result but mischief makers and sore losers will never reason that way because of post election trauma.

I will employ you to read the article one more time to see the point that i am trying to make.
The question the article employs you to ask is this: How can we encourage our children to strive for academic excellence when the standard for the height of achievement has nothing to do with academic excellence.
It's like telling Eze to go to school when he sees his teacher, Mr. Wale, riding a secondhand Bajaj to school while his classmate Emma, who only comes to class once in a full moon, is riding a GLK from his Yahoo-Yahoo enterprise.

My question is how do you encourage education in this kind of social environment?

going to school does not buy one GLK,our inherited form of education and even curriculum is not helping our situation and that’s why many of us are good on pen and paper cos that’s the only tool we were tought to handle.you wonder why we produce thousands of graduates yearly and unemployment keeps growing, cos the crops of graduates we produce are job seekers not job creators.even from school what they tell us is that we are going into the labor market to look for jobs instead of making is to see ourselves as people that will create jobs.
Education is the key as they told us but na you go still open door.

But it has really turned out to be so

Look at the current occupier in Aso Rock Villa.

It was discovered that he was a guinea pig student of government college Lagos used to test run the school four years before it was established, then out of nowhere he appeared claiming that he graduated with first class in accounting. A first-class accountant who is not a member of any professional accounting body both home and abroad.

Ask yourself, Why is the past seventeen months under his leadership the most wicked and draconian? His economic policies catastrophic.

The funny thing about this is that he and his supporters keep claiming that these economic policies are reforms. For example, how can they describe the incessant fuel price hike with its attendant fuel scarcity leading to exorbitant transport costs as economic reforms?

Let us hear from the man himself. I have read on this platform a write up about this same man that he bagged an PhD in Agriculture Economics, MPA from University of Abuja.
If he ever attended UI, the WAEC results pasted can never be accepted in UI. I am a product of the university. However, he may be the owner of the result at one point. My first attempt result was not as good but with further attempts I am a proud product of UI. An engineer.
So. I still maintain that he should not be crucified yet.
When the university Tinubu attended defended him, so Nigeria still believed it was all scam knowing full well that America is not Nigeria.

We placed so much emphasis on paper qualifications that has not taken us anywhere. A phd holder surrounded by high level economists once ruled this country, where has that taken the nation to? Your thoughts have made many citizens to acquire certificates that are not useful to nation development. We have bunch of promoted professors who are teachers without any research work to prove their skills. Some are even corrupt than politicians in and out of the academic sector. What is needed is native knowledge of governance and not certificates please.

Nigeria economy was better when the PhD was President compared to when we had Buhari with Nepa bill as qualification

You can imagine the kind of people that support APC. Don't mind him, one day, he will be at the receiving end of this evil he supports.

I cannot imagine an educated person that glories in the shame that illiterates, drops outs and certificate forgers are his leaders. Unless the so-called educated is also a product of fraud and morally bankrupt. This is despicable.

At least he didn’t resort to using a "miracle center." That’s not to say I support this kind of questionable arrangement, but many people who achieve outstanding results do so through dishonest means, which is equally detrimental to us as a nation.

Personally, I'm not really interested in state elections when it's not my state.
The governor elect in question has M.Sc., before u get M.Sc. you must have had a degree, are you telling me he got a degree with that result?
Why are you guys not posting his M.Sc. and Degree certificate?
The attitude of posting someone's academic records simply because u Iost an election is really pàthètic in Nigeria.
What u mischief makers are trying to post about is not concern for younger generation, stop dragging younger generations into ur paîñs.
U didn't carry out this analogy when Obi came out with miserabIe degree to contest elections.

Maybe you should advise the younger generations not to attend a school, they should neither attend a nursery or primary school, they shouldn't learn how to read and write because Emma who didn't learn to read and write is driving a GLK.
It's better that way, maybe you should have children and not enroll them in any form of education.
The reason why you are even typing what u are typing is because of Iàck of proper education.
