ReesheesuKnack:I'm marveled as to how the harshest criticim you can bring yourself to say against such an absurd statement is that 'the optics don't look good' - as if it's how people view it that is the issue not that the statement itself is problematic. Lol. You must really admire the woman. Anyway, the simple explanation is that being politically incorrect is the new political correctness among the Tory base whom she's appealing to here - she and her ilk have consistently made it trendy to lay the blame for all the countries issues on the the weak, poor and vulnerable. It's a continuation of the narrative that anyone who gets anything from the state is a 'scrounger'. Started with those receiving benefits, then immigrants (with all the tall tales about how they get brand new iphones and cars upon arrival) and now it's women. The statistics are clear on the impact of childbirth on women's careers, and how strong maternity protections help (although they still don't reverse everything. The idea that that maternity pay is what is holding back growth in the country (as opposed to the misrule she and her pals inflicted on the country for over a decade) is baseless. The whole attacking Nigeria even when it's irrelevant schtick is more of the same. The more she can show that she's 'not like the rest of them', the greater her chances among the Tory base. Isn't it interesting that she kept mute during the greatest cultural crisis in the country since she got into government but all of a sudden now has a lot to say about it? Everything she's doing is driven by self-interest and not ideology. That's clear to everyone who has their eyes open. |

Goodenoch:Well said! She’s not ready for frontline politics or rather to be the face of the conservative party/shadow government. It goes beyond culture wars and transgender sound bites. Sunak for all his faults, had a general grasp of issues, eloquent and gave off an air of competence. Jenrick seems to be the closest in the current field. Esp as Keir Starmer has lowered the bar (zero charisma & robotic responses to every question). |

📢 The energy price cap is going up tomorrow by approx £161 for standard credit households(and is due to rise again in Jan) , so best to act today to explore cost saving options such as switching to a fixed rate tariff. |

ReesheesuKnack:Lol, he's another Jeremy Hunt, a serial leadership contender. The Tory membership will never vote for him even if he managed to make the final two. |

Zahra29:And the only woman 👩 in the race didn’t disappoint. As soon as I picked up my daughter from school, I pointed to her that Kemi is of Nigerian heritage (just like her). I told my daughter she can dream and achieve whatever she puts her mind on. I told her if Kemi can aspire for the highest office in the UK, so can she.

Goke7:Omg, she’s so loony, it’s sad at this point — I didn’t know it was this bad. Keep twerking for your base Kemi, let’s see how far it will get you. Linking Boko Haram to Oct 7…tufiakwa! Lost all respect for her. |
| Re: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by Zahra29: 9:35pm On Sep 30, 2024 |
ReesheesuKnack:💯 Her views might be controversial at times and I don't always agree with her (for example with her comments on maternity pay) but this lady deserves all the flowers 🌺 for even daring to believe that she can become the 1st black leader of the Tory party and even the 1st black PM. She's the antithesis of everything the Tory party used to represent- black, female, working class background, working mother, immigrant etc and so even if she doesn't win, she's already broken barriers by rising so highly in a party that growing up was known as the nasty party to anyone who wasn't white and male. She speaks openly about her Nigerian heritage and so her success as the highest ranking UK -Nigerian politician reflects positively on all Nigerians as a whole. The respect and attention she's being awarded as a credible leadership candidate helps to dispel the misguided notion some people still have that all black people are nothing more than n**gas in the eyes of white Brits. We've come a long way and are going further. |

missjekyll:If you’ve followed my musings here, I’m sure you would’ve noticed that I don’t do headlines only. I watched and listened to Tom from beginning to end. His position on the ECHR is/was spot on! What Tom said about the ECHR is far, very far away from what you posted above. It’s the same thing when Kemi was asked about the ‘bonfire to European laws post Brexit’ she gave a perfectly great answer… unfortunately, some of those who oppose the Tories have (let me borrow James O’Brien’s illustration) their red scarves 🧣 so tightly round their necks, it reduces the amount of oxygen to their 🧠. Those lot can never see anything right with anything from the blue side. I implore you, watch a replay of exactly what Tom’s response was on the ECHR and tell me if there is anything wrong with that response. |

ReesheesuKnack:What was Tugendhats position?he wants to leave "PART OF IT" What was Badenochs position? She wants to leave but not yet I m sorry but The ECHR is non-negotiable. It's not on the table at all. Why are we talking about taking our rights away? They say they need to leave because it stops them deporting illegal immigrants but watch the current government will deport illegal immigrants while remaining in the ECHR. These things are not rocket science now,are they? Just out of interest ,which of these rights would you give up for yourself and your loved ones? |

@zahra29, the daughter of a doctor and a lecturer belong squarely in the middle class. Working at mcdonalds at age 16 for some pocket money doesn't make you working class. I don't know why she is so focused on this. It doesn't matter, empathy and the milk of human kindness has no class. I remember Tony Benn,he was a radical leftist despite being born to the aristocracy. Even gave up his title to sit in the commons. |

| Re: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by Goodenoch: 7:30am On Oct 01, 2024 |
Jamesclooney:Funny thing though is that she has the best odds of winning. If I were a betting man I'd be betting on her to be the next leader but never actually become the prime minister. The conservative establishment know it would be great to have her be the mouthpiece of al the Farage-esque things they'd like to say to appeal to the Reform/Right-wing conservative crowd but can't, whereas she can do so freely (for obvious reasons) and is clearly willing to do so nonstop. It doesn't really matter anyway because they don't have a shot of actually winning the next election and likely the one after that. By the time there's a reasonable chance of them winning an election, she'll have been replaced as party leader by someone much more palatable to the base. |

ReesheesuKnack:Every time you say something like this, you focus on insulting the person you're responding to but do not actually say what your own specific opinion of what is being discussed is. Here, the person you're accusing of having oxygen-deprived brains actually stated why they consider the ECHR too important to leave now or to leave in part. You use plenty superlatives ('spot on!'; 'perfectly great answer') but never any substantive answers e.g. what were those answers and why were they spot on?...It's crickets from you. As a completely unrelated aside - I wonder if James has ever said anything about what happens when a person ties a blue scarf on too tight? |
| Re: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by Jamesclooney: 8:28am On Oct 01, 2024 |
Goodenoch:Nah, I don’t see her winning a vote that comes down to ordinary Conservative Party members. If Sunak couldn’t beat Truss, zero chance for her imho. |
| Re: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by ReesheesuKnack: 9:26am On Oct 01, 2024 |
Goodenoch:If you choose to see ‘insults’ you will see insults. The point I was making is, look beyond the headlines. Watch or listen to what someone ACTUALLY says, not some right-leaning or left-leaning or whatever-leaning commentators’ paraphrase says. On your last paragraph, I will take it you do not know or do listen to James O’Brien. I do. Actually, James says that about blue scarves, never about red scarves. |

missjekyll:I don't disagree, however to the party she is campaigning to lead, the vast majority of whom until recently were old boys from Eton and/or Oxbridge alumni, she is working class compared to them and their party base. Class matters to a lot of Brits, even more so than race. Thatcher spoke many times about being the daughter of a grocer. Theresa May mentioned time and time again that she was the daughter of a vicar. If both highlighted their relatively humble backgrounds for whatever reason or gain, then Kemi is free to do the same. Kemi is much liked by the Tory membership - much more than Cleverly or Jenrick. However I dont know if she will win, or even that I want her to. The Tory party is known for eating their own (especially women) and they will not be kinder to Kemi than they were to Theresa May whom they treated rather harshly (and I say this as someone who wasn't her fan). Whoever wins the leadership now will inherit a very poisoned chalice and with their eroded numbers, it will only take around 10 letters lol to the 1922 committee to depose the leader, so the new leader will be treading on very thin ice indeed. Therefore it might be a blessing in disguise for Kemi to lose this time and perhaps try again when the waters are calmer. The fact that she's come this far is a great achievement in itself. |
| Re: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by ReesheesuKnack: 9:30am On Oct 01, 2024 |
Goodenoch:I don’t think Kemi will win. I think it’s between Rob and Tom. But I still admire Kemi and used Kemi as a model when I spoke with my daughter yesterday. Two months ago, I ‘forced’ my daughter to watch/listen to Dianne Abbott. I also sent an email to Dawn Butler previously, asking if my daughter could meet with her. Whereas some see them as just politicians, I see them as strong role models for my Daughter of Nigerian heritage. |

ReesheesuKnack:Let's not forget that these women receive a very significant amount of hate and opposition (even death threats) behind the scenes. They have made a sacrifice of sorts to pave the way for others behind them. Because of people like them our children will grow up with a much thinner glass ceiling. They will grow up seeing black people, immigrants, in UK government and even being political leaders, as normal and attainable- something that was almost unimaginable when we were growing up. |
| Re: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by Goke7: 10:00am On Oct 01, 2024 |
Jamesclooney:Her statements may look harmless for now but down the line if a crisis erupts as a result unnecessary profiling here in the uk it will be so easy to connect the dots. Nigeria is even seriously divided along religious and ethnic lines but the last we want is a high profile politician in the diaspora reinforcing such. |
| Re: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by Jamesclooney: 11:24am On Oct 01, 2024 |
Goke7:As a Nigerian, I’m repulsed by those statements. Everyone knows how easy it is for the west to tar everyone with same brush: recall Trump including Nigerian in Muslim countries ban. For Kemi to link Nigeria to Hamas/extremism in defence of Israel (of all countries to defend) is deplorable. Very sad for a Nigerian to de-market her heritage for personal gain. Zero respect. You don’t run down your people (unfairly in this case) for personal ambition. Spits! |

Hi Everyone, I just received confirmation from the Home Office regarding my visa application which was successful. However, there appears to be a discrepancy with the visa end date. The Home Office has indicated the last date as 12th October 2026, whereas my Certificate of Sponsorship (COS) states 23rd June 2027. Can anyone kindly advise on the steps I could take to address this with the Home Office? |

Kemi Badenoch is truly disgusting, and I for one would prefer PMs (or substantive PMs) to be white English at least for now. We've all seen what those people of colour have done when in power, either as PM or home secretary or whatever - they cry more than the bereaved. Imagine kemi Badenoch as PM during the last riots across UK? She'll definitely blame the immigrants for the crisis, rather than arrest the far right protesters. Sunak too would have been too indecisive (or afraid for fear of misconception) to act. Let PMs or leaders of parties remain pure white British, they are more measured in their actions and don't tend to cry more than the bereaved. |

ehizario2012:This would mean nothing nothing for you till perhaps the 20th generation...no matter how good you are,you will still get decisions made for you even by wallies like bonzo and liz truss so long as they are "white British "? I don't think that's a good outcome. When it comes to governance, let's promote meritocracy imho |
