What is Swearing?
Swearing is the use of language regarded as coarse, blasphemous, or otherwise unacceptable in polite or formal speech in order to express anger or other strong emotion.

It may be used to prove one is stating the truth!

Why do people swear?
1. To emphasise or convince others that a statement or point is true!
2. To joke!

What type of swearing is permitted?
Swearing too much is not permitted. Swearing by any other name except Allah is haram!

Allah swears by His creations but Muslims swear by only Allah. Swearing by any other name is (minor) Shirk which is associating partners with Allah. But if the swearer believes believe the entity being sworn with is more powerful than Allah or as Allah or has control over the universe or deserve to be called upon as Allah then the person has committed Major Shirk and is no more a a Muslim!

What types of entire do people swear with today?
In Yorubaland and many other tribes, people consciously or otherwise do swear with:
1. Allah - by saying "by Allah" (Wallahi)
2. Ọlọhun - God.
3. Ajé - deity of sales.
4. Ogun - deity of iron. The is done by biting on any metal rod, key, etc.
5. Jesus
6. Ṣàngó - deity of thunder.
7. Ka'aba (another variety is to swear by the Lord of the Ka'aba = Allah)
8. Some even bite on their dirty slippers or cloth to swear!
9. White cloth on the bed!
And so many others!

Muslims should desist from swearing too much and if you're to swear do swear on truth and by Allah's name only!

So if you are a big swearer kindly seek the forgiveness of Allah today and never go back to it.

We ask Allah to guide us and protect us from Jahannam!

People use Yaasin too!

We should limited swearing to when needed truly and swear only by Allah!

“ I swear by the Lord of the Easts and the Wests, that We are Able.” Quran 70:40

Swearing with the name of any of Allah's creations ...is NOT HARAM BUT SHIRK.


There's absolutely no difference between swearing with other than Allah and saying lo la anabi and others like that. They're all shirk

You can also swear by Word of Allah.. Qur'an.
