Well, someone thinking of doing PR before will find it useful. The most shocking for me is the changing of the rule for SOWP for spouse of Masters programme. It must be 16 months (2 years) in length. Then the spouse applying for SOWP must also be in TEER 0 or 1 (Management or Professional) classification of employment or any employment in labour shortage. Canada don vex oh. This regime is trying too much to favour her citizens because of elections.

Na normal thing..... You have to win the elections using any legal means necessary.

I believe that it's acceptable.

Hi, I'm just seeing the new update on SOWP, I don't know if this is gonna affect me as well, I'm a college graduate of 2yrs Welding technician program and I already got a job as a welder at a pressure vessel production company, am I eligible to apply for my wife's SOWP with this new law cos I'm confused, and another thing I wanna confirm is that I just got the job and I have just 1 paystub from it, but I have many paystubs from my previous employer, so I don't know if I can attach 2 of my paystubs from my previous job with the one I have from my new job and my new job offer letter. Please any advise on this.

Yes, you are eligible, your occupation is a teer 2 occupation, you can attach paystubs from the old job and the new one and include an explanation about your circumstances, please try and apply now before they bring another policy that is not favourable.

I see, reason I think we should just take these study route to PR as a privilege rather than a do or die japaa must happen thing because of the situation of our country. South Africans don't run away from there country as we do. Too bad.

They said that the integrity of the immigration system has been bastardised. The PR pathway is just a priviledge for the intetnational students. Section 216 of the IRPA that establishes international student program wants those coming to Canada to be bonafide students. But the way we conduct ourselves has proven to them that we not bonafide students. We have splashed to their face that we are immigrants.

No need for SOP for the kids, your POF doc can be added to the client information section, if you do not have POF space.

Fortunately the updates on College restriction for PGWP only affects Intl Students whose study permits were received on or after 1st November 2024. I beleive most of us here expecting SOWP decision have our spouse received their study permits before 1st November 2024 date. Na only test of English apply to our students spouse.


See details of courses Canada determined to be in long-term shortage for College study to PGWP eligibility. I think there is a clamdown on College education which they have often accused of running useless non-impactful courses and so either you go to university where there is no restriction for PGWP or you study any of these College courses selected in long-term labour shortage for study permits application received by ircc on or after Nov 1st 2024 and future.

I am set to travel to Nigeria in November for a week (something very important), My passport validity is going to be 4 months by the time I plan on returning. Given that canada has a 6 months validity on passport. But my work permit is set to expire next year, so i still have a valid visa. The problem is with the passport. How do I go about this?

1. If I decide to do passport renewal in Nigeria. Will my new passport be linked to the old one? Also, would my visa validity in the old one still stand.

2. For the passport, I plan on also doing a name change. Would that still affect my visa and old passport?

3. I already booked my flight before realizing the 2hole walaha. Will the airline allow me use my return ticket with a change of name on my passport?

4. Some people said that since I have a valid work permit till next year March, that it doesn't matter. I can still enter Canada with less than 6 months passport validity. How true is this please??

Renewing your passport does not affect the visa stamped on the old passport, you have to stick them together when travelling.
If you doing name change, make sure it is being done for a VALID reason so that when you are asked you can defend it.
As for the airline, it will be best to speak with them to hear their feedback on the issue, though it should not be problem especially when the change was based on solid reason.
You have still enter CAD with the four months validity, but it is advisable you explore renewing the passport whilst you are here.

My husband's sowp was denied in April alongside my children's study. I just finished my program and I have applied for study permit extension to start another program in January (using Gckey) but no reply yet.
How do I start d process of the vv for my husband and study visa for my children? Can someone here put me through?
Do I apply under my Gckey or I should open their own?
Is there a faster link apart from Gckey?
Our previous applications were done my an immigration consultant but now I want to do everything myself

I want to try again.
I have applied for study extension for myself cos I'm starting a new program in my college my January.
I want to apply for vv for my husband (since he can't come wt sowp) and SP for my children.
My questions are these:
1.Should I use my own Gckey for them or I should open their own each separately (my previous applications were done by agent so I av no log in) Now I want to do my things my self. I did d extension myself by opening a new gckey though I have not gotten a response
2. My graduation is in November, should d purpose of my husband's visit be my graduation or husband can visit his wife anytime and it doesn't have to be because of graduation
3.Now that IRCC doesn't respond fast to applications, is there a faster link I can use for them or it has to be Gckey?

Some of the options you have include:

1. Re-apply, after obtaining your gcms notes to ascertain the real reason for your previous rejection;

2. Apply to a Masters program;

3. Wait until when you apply for your PR and include your family;

4. Visit visa application, for a temporary family visit.

You don't have to cry, we re in d same shoes. I know how it hurts being separated for 8 months now. Let them apply for visit asap first but deal with the issue they were rejected for first.

How many year study permit do you have. If it's up to 2 yrs try apply for a one year Masters course so your spouse can qualify for SOWP else it's only visit he or she can.

If you can't afford a Masters then wait for 2-5 yrs when you ll be able to get a sponsored LMIA job or PR and then apply for spousal sponsorship for your spouse.

Congratulations, you can use the same GCkey, and start with answering the eligibility questions, no link is faster, just apply and hope for the best. You will need
Letter of Invitation written by you
Marriage certificate
Letter of Intent written by your spouse
Your enrollment letter
LOA
POF to cover the expenses for the visit and return flight costs
Family pictures
etc

Had to Apply for TRV, have missed my wife for 13 months now. Waiting for the PPR.

It was our 2nd application. First one was in December (23) but it was refused March

I re-applied in July(14) and got approval in September(24)

Honestly, this journey is a tough one. My children don cry tire. I try to be strong for my family but my husband cannot hold back his tears. That first visa denial broke him.
I want to start all over again and that's y I came to nairaland so support.
