I'm so sorry for bringing my predicament here as it seems The best place to.!

Yo know the saying "Every man with his own problem" Literally, I'm a stammerer, growing up was a little axietful for me..! So many things to say but would keep mute to avoid being ridiculed, mimicked/laughed at.

It's Note-Worthy to say that my parents tried their possible best for me stop it right from childhood, but along the line, it gets worsen.! History had it that I inherited the stammer from my mother's side as such thing isn't in my father's family ! Oh yes ! They got many stammerers in their family.!(Mother's side)

"When the going gets tough, the tough will get going" This shtt really embarrassed me publicly on a different occasions.! (To the extent that it will make me look dumb 😪) I waer the shoes and I know where it pinches, maybe yo can't relate.!

I sure know that there'snt any permanent medication for it, so I plead you to recommend any Worthy therapist that can take me on speech control ! At least I'll be able to control it.! Or any tips that I can apply that will yield gradual results..!

It really sucks.!! Trust me.!

I don't know really,I stammer too but not as much like in the past..
Stammering feeds on anxiety,up your game,build your confidence and anxiety will naturally reduce..
The lesser the anxiety the lesser the chances of stammering..

Nigerians being what they are, intentionally provoke and don't take things easy with stammerer.

The best advice I will advice us like that is
When talking, take it easy when speaking..... Don't be in a haste.
Don't force yourself on anyone..... E.g friendship
Try to avoid anyone who can provoke you to annoyance
Just be yourself and make you

I don't really care, If I tell you it affected me in getting my daily food, job contracts, infact I just I ALONE IN THE WORLD. I don't expect any help from anyone even my aged parents.
The day I just married is gonna be a silent and quiet marriage. People are recently asking why I took such a decision

Unfortunately there's no drug for it, my lil cousin experience same too n his own was so bad that he couldn't apply for short time jobs like teaching n co

He hardly make calls too n approaching girls became a problem cos it's like a major turn off for ladies

The approach he used then was that he learns to talk slowly one after the other

He doesn't try to rush, my brother even eating kolanut didn't help him

So just manage it, I know with age u will outgrow it

I feel their pains, one of my cousin's most embarrassing moment was when he wanted to go fill a form at secretariat

I followed him so I was d one doing d major talking n everything n it got to a point d woman asked me if I am d one n I said no n she said "let d bearer come forward"......she asked my cousin of her name n he just opened mouth n stammered for like 30 secs, my cousin felt embarrassed n I could even feel d pain for him, I felt bad so one elderly woman in that office just called him to her side n begged him if he felt offended

We were supposed to pay 3k for everything but due to what happened they didn't collect 5 naira from us

Make a joke of yourself before others do, you have won the first war that way. The second is to tell them "I stammer o, make una listen well".

talk calmy, no rush, all the words will come out. The world will listen to you like royalty


Open a podcast, it will be fun. Go for speech therapy.

I am sorry, I didn't use my punctuations properly. I apologize to my English teacher for embarrassing her with how I constructed that post.

What I meant is, it is ironical that a stammerer has to do more of talking to cure or control it.

If you want to learn Spanish, go to Spain.

If you want to learn how to swim, go to the pool.

If you want to defeat the fear of public speaking, speak more in public. You overcome your fear by confronting it, not running from it.

When you master the art of speech and talking, you learn when to pause and other styles to talk. True story, a stammerer on air did say some years ago that this was how he overcame his stuttering and stammering. It may not work for you but that is what I learned from him. He is an OAP.

And by the way, there's absolutely nothing wrong with you my sister used to stammer and she's a Consultant Research Clinician who worked for the WHO and UN. She's super smart. So are you.

What you ought to do is learn a Spanish or French, that way, it's easy to break the stammering gradually.

Also for the Anxiety, you can use a stress or panic ball. It's basically like a cricket ball that is soft like foam that you can squeeze in your palm to transfer the tension and anxiety

Once you squeeze it take a deep breath and speak calmly

With time you'll develop a kind of different persona that you'll be using to talk to people in public.
