FT. Nigeria 4-1 New Zealand.

Fine start for the girls. They will get even better in the second game. I expect it and as for Harmony Chidi... no goal today but mehn, she is the real deal.

Re: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by daveP(m): 11:04pm On Oct 16, 2024
A lackluster 2nd half for me. Tiredness was evident in too many errors, including misplaced passes. I counted 22 between 66th and 90th minute. Kilode??

I hope Harmony gets her scoring boots vs Ecuador sha.

That backline were comfy. Jezer(7) tried but no teammate to help her. Else, story for different.

Effiong's ball sense down that wing>>>>

I just wish all of them were faster in the box 18. Too many delays or indecisive moves.

Yes. This tournament (just like the U-20 WC) utilizes the VRS system, whereby teams can make two challenges to a referee’s decision per game. Then, if a team’s first challenge is successful, they will gain an additional challenge opportunity.
But if the first challenge is unsuccessful ie the referee doesn’t change the original decision upon video review, then that team would have one challenge left..

This system is basically a low-cost VAR system that FIFA is trialling to determine whether it can be used as a substitute to the VAR system for countries/competitions that cannot afford to utilize the more expensive VAR system

Yea I already knew about the system but I didn't know they could call for red cards. They shouldn't let a coach like Jose Mourinho see that system oh grin

Morocco to host CAF Women’s Champions League 2024 in November

Published: Tuesday, 15 October 2024

The Confédération Africaine de Football (“CAF”) has announced that Morocco will host the 2024 edition of the CAF Women’s Champions League Finals.

The CAF Women’s Champions League Morocco 2024 will be played between 09-23 November 2024. Morocco hosted the 2022 edition of the CAF Women’s Champions League – the premium women’s club football competition in Africa.

Eight ( 8 ) Clubs will contest the top prize. Winners will get USD 400 000 in prize money with runners-up walking away with USD 250 000.

Mamelodi Sundowns are the current holders – having won the competition twice in three years.

Morocco’s ASFAR is the other team that has won the Competition – back in 2022 when they defeated Mamelodi Sundowns.

Since it’s inception, the CAF Women’s Champions League played a key role in shaping women’s football in Africa.

Morocco’s hosting of the CAF Women’s Champions League follows the nation’s successful hosting of the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations 2022 which also enjoyed unparallelled success.

Six Zonal tournaments took place to qualify 6 teams in addition to the host and the holder of 2023 title to the FT of CAF WCL 2024. The following teams are qualified:

CAF Women’s Champions League Qualified Clubs:

Holders: Mamelodi Sundowns (South Africa)
Host : ASFAR (Morocco)
WAFU A : Aigles de la Medina (Senegal)
WAFU B : EDO Queens (Nigeria)
COSAFA : University of Western Cape (South Africa)
UNAF : Tutankhamun (Egypt)
CECAFA: CBE FC (Ethiopia)
UNIFFAC: TP Mazembe (DR Congo)

Fun facts:

In the group stages of the U-17 WC, the Germans hold the record for the most goals scored at a single group stage - 22. Yes, the Germans scored a whopping 22 goals in 3 group matches at the 2010 edition! 🙆🏾

Meanwhile, the most goals scored by the Flamingoes at a WC group stage is 15, achieved at the 2012 edition.

At the 3rd place match of the 2022 edition, Ajakaye scored Nigeria’s 50th U-17 WC goal against Germany..

Moreover, as of the end of yesterday’s match, the Flamingoes have now scored 56 U-17 WC goals in 25 matches!

🎙 ...If we know what is going on with the National team players selection, you will know that Nigeria football will not grow at all... handpicking of players and paddy inclusion just too plenty...

Enough of all these shenanigans 🤔

This group is too easy, I expect 9 points.
The challenge will be in the Quarter-finals.
On paper should be USA or Spain.
Both tough!!!
Yep this will surely happen all things being equal.
We're well on our way to 2 wins out of 2.
I love the confidence of the team.
Much better than Set 2022.

She (Harmony) will grow into a very solid Number 9 for the Super Falcons. I am counting on her talents.

Peace Effiong is another very exciting prospect. Gosh, her speed and ball sense is quite good for her age.
