AgentXxx:Lol, you're conflating this with tier 4 visa rules. Skilled worker visa rules do not make any concessions for offices being closed e.g. during Christmas. It is now permitted to work up to 20 hours in any supplementary role as long as the role is listed on the ISL or falls under an eligible SOC 2020 occupation code. I don't believe delivery jobs are eligible for sponsorship so a skilled worker wouldn't be allowed to take on Amazon flex as an additional job. |

Thanks for your input. So In summary, A skilled worker isn’t allowed to be self employed. Zahra29: |

Greetings, Please for someone who is currently on Graduate Visa and has a new born baby, is it compulsory to apply for visa and pay IHS if the baby is not travelling anytime soon? Can the baby’s application wait till when switching to a SWV? Thanks! @zahra29 |

PMKeirStarmerer:This is not exhaustive. Reparations cannot only be done though cash. It can be via bilateral agreements/technological transfer that are mutually beneficial. The fact those most commonwealth nations are English speaking with growing populations could be a good first step in greater collaboration. Irrespective of what the west would say, China for e.g is supporting much needed capital investment in alot of African nations- many of these have been to the benefit of both the host nations and the Chinese. Of late, aside shouting down what laws to expunge or deciding what self-serving aid to give, what have been the footprintof the UK in these nations? Take the commonwealth for example, given the number of member nations, what corresponding concrete advantage does it give it offer home citizens of its member states? Someone described it as a committee of GB and her side chicks. There are a few scholarships but these hardly scratch the surface. |

Even if she wins sef, I still happy die that I was right about her being fake and being an airhead. As I said earlier in the thread, na only abortion and lgbtqrst dey that madam head. Nothing else dey there. Girl cannot answer a simple question to save her life🤣 Imagine debating yourself and still fumbling Imagine CNN giving up on you.🤣 Go watch her townhall, or any of her interviews in the past month for that matter. Funny as hell... Trump is Hitler na the latest song Hilary and all of them dey sing now.. the desperation has set in big time. This 2024 election is to me the most entertaining election in US in this century. So much drama and gbas gbos😁💯 |

jedisco:Sorry to burst your bubble. The reparations being clamoured for, and sought , spearheaded by Barbados is CASH. Money. Pounds. Even the current UK Foreign Secretary, David Lammy’s known (public) position is for CASH 💰 reparations. By the way, I hope you know the Caribbean countries are not required to write IELTS before they can settle in the UK. *Winks* |

PMKeirStarmerer:Slave trading happened mostly in the Southern side of what will eventually be known as Nigeria. It destroys the local economy and rubs them off the needed development to make their society flourish through able men and women who were taken to the 'New World'. After the end of Slavery then came colonialism. No difference between slavery and colonialism. We Nigerians should be asking for reparation. The whole idea of reparation is hogwash. No matter the amount of money you get, it not going to fix the problems in our society. Better Things to talk about. |
| Re: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by Zahra29: 6:18am On Oct 26, 2024 |
AgentXxx:Not quite. A skilled worker can be self employed but the employer has to provide sponsorship and a contract outlining the work they have been contracted to perform. The skilled worker can then establish a limited company or register as a sole trader and invoice the sponsor for work performed. Examples are dental associates and private tutors. |

jedisco:Lol I was waiting for you to drop the Canada news because you know if it was the UK that had made this announcement, you would have posted it in real time along with a lengthy exposition criticising the UK for being anti-immigrant, in denial etc etc |
| Re: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by Zahra29: 6:27am On Oct 26, 2024 |
DadR:Technically yes to the bolded. It is however a legal obligation to pay for the IHS after the baby's third month to be able to access NHS treatment. Some trusts are more vigilant than others and might ask for proof of the baby's status/ IHS payment if the baby was attended to at hospital. |
| Re: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by jedisco(m): 7:31am On Oct 26, 2024 |
PMKeirStarmerer:Thats how negotiations are made First, the UK has to come to the point of offering a formal apology just like many of its institutions have done. Then agree to look into reparations and then discuss how to proceed with that. Also, there is a symbolic part to most of these. It costs nothing to give an apology which the nation has officially given for loads of much smaller historical demeanours. As per the bolded, I would not consider that as a benefit home citizens of member states get by being part of the commonwealth. |
| Re: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by jedisco(m): 8:07am On Oct 26, 2024 |
Treadway:You do realise that they are both formidable candidates right? None of them come close to being airheads. Issue with such elections is people who sit on one extreme end or the other. They'd hardly be able to critically analyse issues weighing the pros and cons of each candidate. All they can see is a two switch button i.e, their candidate is the saviour while the other candidate is the devil. Ultimately, like I've asked before, it seems it all boils down to the second bolded for you. |
| Re: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by jedisco(m): 8:43am On Oct 26, 2024 |
Zahra29:Hehe. There is a long history of you clutching at any anti-immigrant policy from any nation to justify the 'graciousness' (as you put it) of the UK migration policy all in a bid to fervently 'remind' us the grass is not greener elsewhere. Having been through both pathways, I am able to weigh the pros and cons of each. e.g despite the reduction, they are still looking to take in abt 1% of their population per year via the PR (settled) route alone aside others. The underlying fact here is that when faced with prospects of low growth, western nations repeatedly turn to migration, not out of want but need. |

jedisco:ogbeni leave matter She is an airhead. State things as they are. If Kamala was sitting across from you at an interview and couldn't answer a damn question without rambling, what would you call her? It is twelve days to election, and a smart person (which she isn't) would be able to give clear and distilled answers to the major talking points and focal issues, even when woken from sleep at 2am in the morning. She cant! Can't answer questions, cannot take any accountability Stop with the double standards abeg, cos I see how you type and the level of knowledge you display and know if you were an interviewer interviewing a regular person for a job, that interviewee would need to have his/her head screwed on right to impress you. Don't excuse her dullness, cos you don't like the other guy. I don't rate that. I don't care whom anyone votes really, I just will not be fed BS cos some willingly choose to gobble that up. Your last sentence is common to both sides, but I wanna just keep my evaluation about the issues about the facts as I know them. Meanwhile I have called out Donald Trump many times here, but you can't get yourself to admit with all the evidence that this lady not only lies and is fake, but on top is totally unprepared and out of her depth. What are you on about? Atleast Donald ain't fake, we know exactly who he is Unlike the imbeciles calling him fascist, yet are the same ones persecuting RFK and Tulsi gabbard cos they had the audacity to move to the republican party. Trump said 'he would be a dictator on day 1 and drill baby drill'. They twisted that and said he said he will be a dictatorship, full stop. What kinda messed up unfair sharp practices be that?? Look up the definition of fascism and tell me which side is exhibiting it more. I really really don't like hypocrisy abeg. I have called Trump out so many times, I said the cats comments were stupid, I said his I hate you tweet to Taylor swift was immature, and i have called out his over the top behaviour many times. Conversely I have also clarified the lies spewed about him, like these recent ones. That's how to be balanced. You on the other hand, can't admit that she is grossly unprepared, you can't admit that she is fake and till now most people aside women (obviously) cant relate to her or have a sense of who she is, you can't admit that Obama did a messed up thing, making such a divisive and insulting statement as to suggest that black men who aren't supporting Harris are acting that way cos they are misogynistic, when in fact it is cos they know she has nothing to offer them. Nah, I don't rate that. If you wanna be balanced speak to the issues I raised up there, and if not, no wahala. Don't defend her and tell me she's not an airhead sha if your not countering all the above. |

Thanks for the clarification. Just be sure I understand you well, it means A skilled worker can’t have any other side hustle (self employed) because no one would give COS for a 20hours job as in the case you mentioned below it is probably the only job the individual has. Does this also reflect with those who are freelancers or business owners outside of Uk? Zahra29: |
| Re: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by Zahra29: 10:37am On Oct 26, 2024 |
jedisco:"Fervently" ? lol Actually, the point I've tried to make is that flexing immigration policies to control levels of migration, in order to ensure they are sustainable and provide net positive value to the country, does not inherently mean that a country is anti-immigrant. Its a sensible position to take and the UK is not unique in choosing to control its borders. Case in point- the Western country with historically one of the most generous /"gracious" immigration policies has now also decided to be more restrictive. Immigration is always largely based on need, not only of the host country - most migrants (especially those coming to the west) travel out because they also have a need e.g for economic, physical or political stability and a better future. It works both ways. |
| Re: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by Zahra29: 11:02am On Oct 26, 2024 |
AgentXxx:Correct. The rules in effect mean that a skilled worker cannot set up their own business instead of or in addition to their main sponsored employment – they would need a different visa e.g. an Innovator or Start-up visa, Global Talent visa etc In principle, the same rules apply to businesses/supplementary employment outside the UK. However there is the practical matter of enforceability if the foreign business is not reported to Home Office or HMRC. |

Treadway:Kamala Harris is quite an accomplished lady. I m not even offended by you calling her an airhead. *shrugs We will know in 10 days. I do h*te trump and everything he stands for. I do not believe he has a single redeeming feature. |
| Re: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by Jamesclooney: 4:26pm On Oct 26, 2024 |
Treadway:This defense of her being accomplished or not being an airhead is amusing. Politics at this level is all about your oratory skills, eloquence and presentation. Where was this defense when Sarah Palin, then a sitting governor, was being mocked in 2008? Even JD Vance took heat with the “cat lady” comments. Over here, Liz Truss is practically synonymous with a being a joke—all based on her disastrous premiership and u-turns plus speaking style. But with Kamala, we’re supposed to overlook that? She’s fumbled too many interviews for someone running for POTUS (Bret Baier, 60 minutes, Telemundo, CNN, even Al Sharpton….for her sake I pray she doesn’t go on Joe Rogan). Trump isn't a saint either. For me though, as a Nigerian passport holder, I’m honestly worried about a second Trump presidency. Last time, getting a U.S. visa from Nigeria was nearly impossible. Just hoping I can get one from UK before January 20, otherwise it’s game over for my US trip plans. |
