It's intriguing though, labour is moving too fast. It's a slippery slope they treading now.
Be careful what you seek, because it might turnaround and bite you in the bum........ 😉😂

At this rate, they run the risk of blowing open the economy to a full capitalist system. And that's not always the best.
I think they are stuck actually and the options are few or doesn’t exist to continue or further expand the social system.

Good morning guys,
Please I need advise on this issue.

I rented a newly refurbished flat and you all know these rules that you can't temper with the wall or put a nail on it, I wrote to the landlord to provide curtain hangers/rails to make it easier for me to fix my curtains and not temper with the wall since there is none in the house which they agreed to do.

This issue has been pending since three weeks ago. Their man came to take measurements of all the windows two Fridays ago and nothing has been heard again. I sent a reminder mail to the landlord last Friday when it was exactly a week since the measurements were taken but no response has been received yet on it.

All my windows in the house are open and uncovered which violates my privacy. Please I need candid advice on what to do.
Thanks

Did you rent the property from an agent or directly from the LL........
Re: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by barnaby04(m): 10:26am On Oct 28, 2024
I got the property from a letting agency. I first reported the issue to the guy assigned as my property manager by the agency but he said I should relate with the landlord since they are the ones responsible for all maintenance works in the house.

Get the agents pressure the landlord...... In the interim, get no nails to stick your curtains up........

It does not matter which registry, issues the marriage certificate......

Do you have the leveraging documents, to apply for a visiting visa....... If not, don't waste your funds, apply via the dependant route (much safer and guaranteed)....... 👍
Thank you. I sincerely appreciate your response

While you're awaiting a permanent solution from the landlord, you could try using temporary paper blinds to cover your windows. Example below from IKEA but similar models are available on Amazon, Dunelm etc

https://www.ikea.com/gb/en/p/schottis-pleated-blind-white-20242282/

No drilling required, they stick on to the window frame and can be cut to size. They look good enough to cover your windows in the interim and more importantly, give you some privacy.

All said, I'm comparing notes and as this is your specialty, in what sector and how long from now do you thing there would likely be another migration boom to the UK. The last one was personally well received. I love the UK, it's given me and my family plenty.
Good to hear 😊 I defend the UK because although it has its faults like every other country , (both present and past), it really is one of the best countries in the present world by pretty much every life metric.

I'm not sure we'll see another "boom" any time soon. Labour has still not been fully forgiven for the last boom it brought in the early 2000s so I expect they will tread carefully and want to be seen as taking a tougher line on immigration. I heard that this Labour government has just restarted deportation flights to Nigeria and Ghana - the first such flight in over 4 years.

I think it will more of stealth immigration over the next few years but we'll see.

Thanks for this nice alternative. I have seen it on IKEA and it's even very affordable.

Please I need clarification. Someone that got spouse visa recently is confused that the validity says from 02/11/2024 to 31/01/2025. That's barely 3 months validity. The plan is to go join the spouse over there..

Please is this normal?

Hi All,

A bit of some divergence but does anyone happen to have gone through the process of setting up a living will in the UK or even a trust for their family?
Asking about this from an individual/ very small asset owner perspective please.

If you have, are you able to share your experience doing this, pros and cons, fees (if applicable) and provider used.

I'm also happy to receive perspectives from Nigeria.

Does anyone know where Lemonade and the likes get their own exchange rates from? Like is there an API that provides them the rates or they determine this themselves.

I will appreciate if anyone that knows can share some info.

He/she has to enter the country before 31/01/2025 then get his/her BRP.

I think you need to register online for e-visa within that period as the HO is going paperless as regards to biometric card.

research that for more info

If i told you, CBN might also ban them, same way abokifx was dealt a CBN knockout........ 😁😂

I think rates are derived mainly from supply and demand + economic activities (or lack of)...

I still believe there is a synergy. All these money transfer apps cannot just be determining their rates. I know home office for instance use Oanda but I'm not sure which the transfer apps uses.

Who remembers the following lines:
“Our Manifesto is FULLY costed”
“We will not increase tax for ‘Working People”.

Now what are they singing?
“14-years bla bla bla…”
“20 Billion Black Hole bla bla bla…”

Like I said before:
2024 UK Labour Party = 2015 Nigeria APC

Budget day is just a few days away. Na that day we go know whether their manifesto was ‘FULLY COSTED’.

Ndi hypocrites.

We have a trust and set it up quite sonetime ago. We're both PAYE employees though.
We hold assets in 2 countries with a reciprocal tax agreement, so we had to use a NZ/UK practising solicitor and a tax accountant versed in the laws of both countries around taxation and inheritance (UK has CGT and NZ does not. UK has inheritance tax and NZ does not etc) so my recommendations will likely not be useful as they're mainly NZ based.

Our set up cost was around £3k ish then and ongoing annual cost of maintaining the trust is approx £700 ish across both countries. I wrote a long epistle about the pros a couple of years ago. A major pro of course is that it protects our assets from any litigation and bankruptcy.

Major cons for us -
1. We set ourselves as beneficiaries which restricts what we can do with it. It's a mixed trust designed to prevent any assets being sold out of it. I am sure that will come bite us in the arse in the nearest future.
2. The tax requirements are onerous. Doubly so as we need to meet the requirements of both NZ and UK.

Whether it will be useful or not, only time will tell.
